The Atacama Experience - Chasing Trail Ep. 14

Atacama. The word rolls off the tongue as easily as nature’s palette moves across the surface of the Mars-like vistas. Home to the driest non-polar desert in the world, Atacama is at once a geological phenomenon and a place of deep history of copper and salt mining. Located on the Pacific Ocean in the northern third of Chile, the Atacama Desert stretches nearly 1,600 km north to south. For Lorraine Blancher, it’s been a place of wonder ever since she picked up a copy of National Geographic when she was younger.

Welcome to Atacama, a place with peaks high enough to touch the clouds, held together by the driest desert on earth. It’s a place where the riding is something out of a dream: vast spaces full of endless, fast singletrack shrouded by volcanoes and ancient mines. With trails running down ridges as far as the eye can see, the riding possibilities are truly endless.

For most of us this would be a trip of a lifetime. Yet, it's boiled down to a 2:35 video. Not to get too deep here, but that actually makes me a little sad.

@SCOTT-Sports, you've gone through all the effort and expense to shoot this, so can you please put together a longer video with a voiceover regarding the trip etc. I'd love to sit down with a beer/glass of wine and see much more of that beautiful footage.

@rrolly: A longer version of this trip will be presented at the Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival (VIMFF) in February, and will be the trip coverage you're looking for. We'll be sharing more about the experience - culture, terrain, adventure - with our feature film as we self-support bikepack along un-mapped wild vicuna trails during the VIMFF MEC night.

Till then - @SCOTT-Sports has some more imagery and written content here!

Yeah so Geoff Kabush rides for Scott. I agree he is inhuman in his riding ability, but having raced against him in the lost sierra triple crown this year, I have to say his Scotts look fun and drool worthy. Have you won the Downieville classic all mountain world champs before on your bike? Didn't think so....

*disclaimer: I ride a Rocky Mountain Altitude, but Scott if your looking for a new ambassador.... Wink
