This weekend racers from all over the NorCal area and beyond will descend upon, and through, the 2nd annual Shastarama DH. With an 1100 foot dusty, technical, and mountain chunder-filled event packed with fun freeride-style airs, it's sure to be another epic weekend...even better than last years' race!
Course Photos & Info InsideWe had the privilege of heading up to the ski park these past few days to help out Styles and Taylor from Shasta Base Camp finish up the DH course, and we brought along the camera to let the rest of the world in on the secret.
Our ride
The Rainbow Log feature
Overall, the Shastarama DH course is wide-open technical: rocky and dusty. But as you walk down the course, you'll run into the half-dozen or so freeride features smattered on the course; a roadgap here, a wallride there, and a gap jump off of a ski/board box there.
Little whoop-dee-doo wallride
Big ladder bridge roll-down
Helping build the course this year was a joint effort between Shasta Base Camp and the Mount Shasta Ski Park summer staff:
Richard doing what he does best
And we helped a little too.
Reminding us that we are at a ski park...
Fast runs take about 5 minutes top to bottom...just enough to quench your DH thirst (as well as your FR airs) but not so much as to leave you gasping for air for hours afterwards. The large decent and steep gradient also helps keep to honest DH roots. Having easy access via the Douglas chairlift doesn't hurt either.
Registration will be held at the ski park Saturday July 17 at 2-6pm and Sunday at 7-10am. Saturday will be practice day from 2-4pm and there will be practice prior to race runs on Sunday 7-11am. Race runs start at 12 noon on Sunday and will continue for as long as there are riders (
NO LIMIT ON THE NUMBER OF RIDERS). There will also be a raffle and other fun stuff after the race, with a Jamis Parker 2 frame provided by Shasta Base Camp being one of the top raffle item.
