Aaron Chase's white party is, in my opinion, one of the better off-hill events in whistler during Crankworx. He gets the right vibe going and does it for the right cause. The drinks help too.
After stumbling upon the white party last year and having a blast, Miles
shovelpick.pinkbike.com/ and myself
freeridebigisland.pinkbike.com found out we would be in town to catch it this year. Here's how the night went down.
The grapevine's word got around to us and we were off. Be white and be bright is what we were told. Knowing last years event was putting money towards the Stephen Murray Stay Strong foundation, I was curious to find out what this one was going for. A kindly drunk fellow enlightened us. The money from this year will go to the
Tara Llanes Road to Recovery Fund. For those who don't know her story, she crashed last year at the Jeep King of The Mountain 4x race and was left with no feeling from the waist down. Aside from just having fun, it's a good feeling to know that as you get drunk and enjoy yourself, you're helping out a really deserving and inspiring person.
We showed up a bit early, when the crowd consisted of a few pro's and a handful of odd drunks dancing like hippies, which is common for occasions like this one. After a JagerBomb and a few beers the party started picking up. Once inhibitions were lost, the dance floor was ravaged. Some really well done turntable work kept everyone stoked and having a good time.
I can't recall seeing a single girl crying, whereas I would usually catch at least three stumbling about on a usual night at a club. That said a lot to me as far as how the white party has an interesting energy and feel. The white party simply isn't like your regular theme night club party. It's a celebration, a gathering, a chance to see some of your favorite pros stop being pros and start being just like every other person dancing and drinking at a party. It's a great addition to the Crankworx experience, and an easy way to get a chance to rip In Deep and Dirt Merchant with a hangover.
