bigquotesHave you ever had the flu? It's a nasty business. Just when you're getting better, a friend will be struck down, then another, and before you know it, all your friends are sick.

Contagious things usually suck, but not always. A few years ago I modified some mud tires with sheet metal screws. The tires allowed me to ride my bike all winter. My bike had adapted to a whole new set of conditions. All of a sudden, cold snaps and fresh pow were reasons to go riding!

The idea spread like a disease. Now we have a serious crew for the winter trails. Chain up the truck, grab your bike, and come along on our winter shenanigans as we all get sick.

Yeah ! Silvia films are always connected to "fave" button.
  • 5 0
Yeah no infinintro of people putting on helmets and such... just shredding from start to finish Smile Thank you silvia !

No fatbike needed to ride in the snow!!!!
  • 33 1
... as long as you have MASSIVE spike tires :-O
  • 11 0
And aren't pedaling uphill. Or along the flat...
  • 36 33
Yea fatbikes are sooo hyped, they are shoveling them down our throats! Bloody bike companies wanting nothing more than looking for profit! We are running out of options and bikes are too expensive. I am actually surprised no one is yet btchn that during winter time you should ski, not bike.
  • 13 2
"We are running out of options" so when they give us another one i.e. Fatbikes, we complain...
  • 14 0
You realise waki was just taking the piss right?
  • 4 0
and aren't in deep snow. Snowbiking is so much fun but they were riding like there was no snow at all. wild.
  • 2 3
Specialized has a fat bike so I think sooner or later we'll see Matt Hunter on one and it'll be sick.
  • 2 3
Congratulations Waki, you've discovered the nature of business. PROFIT. What do you do for a living? I bet its for profit.
  • 3 0
Canajuns and Mericuns: Google "Taking the piss", you will appreciate what Waki is saying and the humour in it. Thank you L0rdTom.
  • 20 0
Disclaimer - it was a sarcasm... I must stop with those
  • 4 0
Oops haha... Difficult to know when trolling/sarcastic/generally doesn't have a clue... Sorry Waki!

Drinking and hauling ass in the snow.....what could go wrong?

HaHa.. There is only one trail there that requires a whiskey shot to ride it.. its not the main winter jump trail so you are luck to ride it more then once in a day.. I think winter deserves a token shot of the belly warmer? Remember kids , doing anything irresponsible is irresponsible ...so .... Don't .. do anything irresponsible?

These folks' edits are always great. I remember when I saw their first edit and since then every time there is a Silvia badge on it I expect so much; and to my expectations they always deliver... Great edit once again guys!

I love this video! I am not a big fan of Jack Daniels but all the rest yes!
  • 6 0
..and a few years later, at retirement age, you remember yourself, "Hell ya, i was livin (on the edge)!" ..nice edit filled with top action and soulful music. (y)
  • 8 2
still not as good as the old video of matt alone riding in snow, that was just something out of this world.
  • 2 1
same thing i thought after i watched it;. Then i watched again. And again. And as it's not as good as winter trails, it is still super awesome video with unique vibe. I love it!
  • 6 1
Every time I see a Silvia video I'm checking if it's my birthday already. This would be the best present you can get from PB.

Matty Hunter is the king of mountain biking. Forever.
  • 5 1
Jack d, mad home made spiked tyres, snow and dh doggin, crazy, wouldnt like to run into the dog with those tyres, mass carnage!!!
  • 5 0
The highlight of the video was that dog. Fucking chill af.
  • 4 0
Possibly Matt is the greatest inspiration there for cycling in all conditions.
  • 3 0
Everything about this is epic. JD, mint bikes, fun riding with friends.....this is what mtb is all about. Bravo guys!

These tyres works amazing in snow and on ice: www.suomityres.com/ext294.html
To my surprise they survive tarmac better than I expected even though the grip is worse on tarmac than in snow and on ice of course.
  • 1 0
Shreddin' that fast in snow is just insane!! Last time I tried, I thought was I going to die.. Didn't have screws in the tires though, will need to give that a try next Winter!

awesome video guys. nice to see something a bit different Big Grin
  • 3 0
awesome video! Wish the scenes didn't cut so quickly and that each scene was a little longer.
  • 1 0
Wee-hoo! That is great stuff. Keeping it real with big bikes. Looks like a new shuttle rig, too. It actually has windows and doors. Love the vision, Mr. Penny. Don't ever stop, buddy.
  • 1 0
That is quite the dream team with dreamy video results. Not something you can do every day. At least not in Vancouver Island - snow days are pretty rare. Ridiculous riding on sketchy trails!
  • 2 0
Great filming and great riders, the transition with the dog is so sick. Class video guys!!
  • 4 2
I would be really careful over running your dog , those breeds are notorious for bad hips and legs.
  • 2 0
good point, sure looks like he's having a good time though.
  • 5 1
That would only apply for a purebred show german shepherd (or at least some mix thereof), which I'm pretty sure this isn't. Judging by the shape of its back, it's at least a working breed (like the police use), and judging by it's tail and some other features, there's some husky in there, so it's probably pretty happy to run in the snow. I don't know for sure, of course, but that's just my assessment.
  • 2 1
@ IsaacBikes, your way wrong. Have you ever owned shepherds?....have had 2 german shepherds in the last 15 years and neither of them were bred to be a show dog....one was even a retired police dog and they both ended up with hip problems
  • 6 0
Not to mention he is 50% Arctic tundra wolf.. Dont worry, i love my dog.. he is well taken care of..
  • 5 0
The dog experts have spoken. Your dog would be better off locked in his kennel all day instead of enjoying a day out in nature. I think I will do the same and quit doing anything that is high impact on my body. This way I will be more mobile in my old age.

I'm (mostly) kidding of course. I do agree with the no OVER running, especially pups, especially in the heat. My dog will run until his feet literally are bleeding if I let him. Dogs have to build up just like any other athletes, and are not likely to tell you they are hurting.
  • 5 1
I'd be more worried about RUNNING over my dog with those studded tires!
  • 6 0
You are a worry wart aren't you .. First about alcohol abuse even tho its perfectly legal and acceptable to drink it.. As for the people you seem worried about the youth. Well we have laws that prohibit selling alcohol to minors. This is what protects us from the outlandish beer & alcohol adds on tv not to mention everywhere else.. How are they going to run out there and get it? Also you can worry about my dog all you want .. you are wasting your time.. He is clearly more intelligent than you.. He doesn't worry. He just assesses the situation and adjusts accordingly .. For instance.. "Fast mountain bikers" I know.. i'll hang back.. see.. That was easy.. Oh man.. save the children from being too young to drink alcohol.. I know! Alcohol laws!.. Better buckle up sheraph! its complicated out here.. so much policing to do on this here interweb..

@A-Smalls- Most dogs develop hip issues, eventually, regardless of breed. My lab/shepherd mix developed hip issues too, but she was also 15, which is well into old-lady territory (my grandmother had hip surgery recently, does that mean we over-ran her? Matt Hunter had a shoulder operation a few years back, should he not ride so much?). These issues are more common at an earlier age with longer bloodlines of (larger thoroughbreds), like show and racing dogs.

as I was watching this video and absolutely loving it, I was having visions of the comments section with the token "omg drinking and riding" comments. Gotta say I didn't expect the "omg the poor doggy" comments. Web policing seems to be reaching new levels all the time!
  • 1 0
@ IsaacBikes....Reading comprehension my friend. At what point do I ever say I think the dog should not run or run less? I was simply calling you out because you are wrong when you say, "That would only apply for a purebred show German Shepherd".
  • 1 0
@A-Smalls Context, my friend. Meaning the context of the original post that sparked this discussion being, "I would be really careful over running your dog , those breeds are notorious for bad hips and legs." I know you didn't say that, but since these are replies to that comment, it is considered the context of the replies.
  • 2 1
Matt Hunter you are a champ. I've always wanted to ride in snow. Bourbon did wonders for my golf swing but not so much on the DH bike.
  • 1 0
This vid got me so pumped! I am gonna set me up with some of these tires, and hit the trail tomorrow... that is if I can still find any snow up here in Tahoe.
  • 2 0
well that sucks....these guys ride better on bikes in the snow than i ride on skis in the snow.....cool.
  • 2 0
I watched this muted to "Change" from the Deftones and had a great video too

Sharing that whiskey could cause that flu to spread rather quickly...
  • 1 0
I will never complain the trails is ride are too slippery. I can't believe they can shred those turns like they did on the snow. Snow tires can only grip so much.

Love the quick snappy head cam and over the shoulder looking back, amazing edit, best thing I've seen in a while. Smile

it is an hour to the end of the workweek here and I am watching this video over again, wanting it to never end.
  • 1 0
That's not crazy, it's fun. Life at its best. I only wonder what the dog was thinking chacing them.
  • 2 0
He was thinking, "Im in the pack, Im in the pack, sweeet!"
  • 1 0
I heard a story some time ago, of a grandmum watching F1 race and asking: Where are they driving so fast?"
Similar to what I am thinking about the dog's thoughts: "There's got to be yummy food at the end of the path."

btw it's always astonishing for me to watch dogs keeping up the pace.

snow berm at 2:26! now that is enough of a reason to keep trail centers open in the winter!
