by Snow Summit
This Friday morning (5.27) at 9:30a sharp the 2016 season kicks off at Snow Summit, Southern California's only lift-served Mountain Bike Park. The trail crew has been putting in work to get Miracle Mile, Party Wave, Westridge, Turtle Trail (bottom) and Small Wonder dialed for opening.

Snow Summit Bike Park to Open this Friday

The park will open through Memorial Day on Monday and then we'll be weekends-only for a couple weeks. Starting June 17th we're open 7 days a week for the remainder of the summer. If you haven't grabbed your season pass there's still time to take advantage of early season pricing.

So, we're going to have that huge network of new DH trails that we were promised when they opened, right? Oh wait...the same two trails. Tits, bro.

 This.

 Thank the Forest Service.

I know, terrible right? chairlift served gravity trails in a so-cal bike park, in a cool mountain village, with a lake, lodging, food to create a quick getaway from the so-cal rat race. Sh1t on this enough and they will just close up shop and you will be stuck shuttling elsinore, bro.
  • 5 6
You can only blame the Forest Service for so long.
  • 10 2
@stikmanglaspell: His point is you can't keep promising new trails and not deliver year after year. If you can't deliver, just shut up about it already. Plus, riding the same trails a thousand times over does get stale after a while.
  • 5 2
@stikmanglaspell: If you can enjoy riding the same few mediocre trails over and over again, more power to you. It is certainly nice to have summit around as an option, but wouldn't it be great if we could all actually be stoked about it?

At this juncture, I much prefer shuttling Elsinore/SD/Laguna. I only go to Summit if I don't want to sack up and head to mammoth, or if I feel the urge to hit some jumps, regardless of how lackluster they are.

Yeah yeah, we get it, you're saying that we should appreciate the positive aspects of Summit rather than focusing on the negative...but ultimately there is a lot of room for improvement and if we don't provide feedback how will it ever get better?

Please, don't go, I'll enjoy shorter lift lines. Meanwhile in san diego all the shuttle able trails are cut out and my bike just sits...... ungrateful
  • 2 3
 ungrateful
  • 1 2
@jewpowered: the lift lines are short regardless....
  • 3 5
@stikmanglaspell: That would be FANTASTIC. Then we can go back to riding the legitimate fun steep trails in the trees with no crowds or lines or torn up flat lame trails. I would be thrilled if they closed up that joke of a park and started leaving it alone.
  • 2 3
@sinister28: THIS!!! I liked all the raw steep trails they closed on forest service land to get everybody together on park land. Snow Summit blows, period. 90% of the trails are pavers anyways
  • 1 1
 @stikmanglaspell: elsinore is badass

@jewpowered: Haha Ryan. Don't kill yourself Saturday; Gregor and I are planning to go next week. You want to roll with? I'm going to be riding moto all weekend.

I thought mammoth was getting boring.

Summit, AKA "2 1/2 trails," has gotten crowded to the point of not even being fun on weekends-- unless you enjoy asking poeple to pull off every 14 seconds... they really need more trails, period. The hen pecking nature of our government has gotten completely insane. A ski area with half the trees already clear cut, buildings, parking lots and roads everywhere, and the forest service wants to stop the snow summit from making a few more lines in the dirt? Do these government parasites forget the only reason they have jobs is because of productive people paying taxes? Our reward for producing and paying taxes is that we are told by taxpayer employees that we can't use the land we (taxpayers) technically own.

 100% agree!

 Hen packing..... FTW

Look at us all. This is what we've been waiting for and we're already whining about trail maintenance and trail features not being to our liking. I for one am f ing STOKED and can't wait to get up there and have some fun. Let's do this!!
  • 5 2
It's the tumor of the human race, piss on things that are good.
  • 22 2
Praying for trail maintenance throughout the year. I'm looking at you hand pulping chatter
  • 9 1
what are those words you speak...? trail.. mainten... huh? I thought your wrists are supposed to hurt every time you ride a bike with 8" of travel?
  • 13 16
It was so blown out in the corners by the end of the season last year it wasn't even worth riding.
  • 20 2
I can deal with chatter or whatever. I'd rather see them improve the features. Some of those jumps are straight whack. Both would be nice though.

@badbadleroybrown: no joke! If you are getting neg-propped it won't be alone!
  • 13 3
Sick!! Great to have a lift access bike park close-ish to LA. The improvements keep getting better, trail crew is trying. Jump lines are dope and getting bigger with smarter transitions. More beginner trails will be great to keep Westridge and Miracle mile in a little better shape and safer with less squids not paying attention. Thanks Bear, mammoth, and gravity logic for making a sick park with a bright future!

It would be cool if hey could build their turtle trail into more of a flow tail with some small tables. There needs to be a real trail for less experienced people to learn to jump on and get a little air time. Its such a bummer the Forest service shut down the green trail they were building..
  • 7 2
Thank the forest service for the slow trail builds. They seem to forget that it's a ski area with vast swathes of trees that have been clear cut for ski runs. Ridiculous! I can't wait to get to Summit and always have a great time there. The trail crew keeps it improving within the limits they're afforded. Just thank them when you see them you whiny bitches!

People that buy season passes just want a maintained park throughout the entire season.....they are off to a good start up there by the sound of things.......PLEASE keep it up and don't under deliver maintenance toward the middle and end of the season.....now time to rip!!!
  • 6 1
I guess it was all the snow that we had this year that kept it from opening sooner!????
  • 4 1
Stuck in PA for the early part of this summer, where the local bike park has 350 feet of vertical and is barely worth the 40-minute drive. Stoked to be back in CA in August, though! Love it at Snow Summit.

I am excited, last year the build crew kept re-vamping sections, so as long as I went every two weeks there would be fresh features.

I am excited that miracle mile got a facelift and I love the new fast drop/ fall away halfway down, its safe, but you're airborne for a good amount of time.

I can honestly say the constant work by snow summit kept the limited trails enjoyable and maintenance was ok this year.

Meanwhile my trips to mammoth were the same features as every other year and the conditions were garbage! Don't get me wrong, I would kill for something like twilight at summit.

Just the atmosphere at summit is great. I give the good trail builders up there props for what they've done so far and I'm seriously grateful. Remember people, this place is only open for a limited time each year...enjoy it while you can, before you have to go and shuttle trails that you've also ridden a hundred times.

 Let's skip finals this year...

Mammoth advertised 5 new trails for this year. How are they able to build new trails on Forest Service land yet Snow Summit can't???
  • 2 0
Because each county has a different jurisdiction. Some times you get rangers who are pro mountain biking, and so you see places like Mammoth who can basically do what they want. Then you have rangers who are anti-mountain biking, or weary of mountain biking, and you get places like Snow Summit. I work for Kirkwood just south of Tahoe and we were unable to build a number of trails in our bike park because the ranger for Amador county was very much Anti-Mountain Biking. We just got a new ranger who is a mountain biker so the prospects look good for the coming years.

@Bassman87: it has nothing to do with county jurisdiction. It has to do with National Forest jurisdiction. The San Bernardino National Forest (which is in Riv and SB counties) clearly has different policies than the Inyo National Forest.

Which is unfortunate....

Seriously people.... Lets just enjoy the time we have, the time we have to RIDE!
  • 3 1
Yay, looking forward to it! Last year was my first time and I was really impressed.

You know Mammoth owns them right?
