Press Release: Snow Summit Bike Park

Kyle's crown (and $20K) is up for grabs July 30 - Aug 1 at the Summit Bike Park in Big Bear.

Created by MTB superstars Kyle and Rachel Strait in response to multiple competition cancellations during the 2020 season, the inaugural Strait Acres Slalom Invitational featured a who's who of US pro riders competing at the Strait's personal dual slalom track for backyard bragging rights.

After an overwhelmingly positive response to their homegrown event, Kyle and Rachel are partnering with Summit Bike Park and Team Big Bear to bring their vision and track design to a larger venue in 2021. This year's Strait Acre Slalom Invitational, set for July 30 - Aug 1, will coincide with Team Big Bear's Gravity Festival and feature 32 of the world's top pro men and women racing head-to-head at Summit Bike Park for $20,000 in total prize money. Amateurs and spectators are also welcome.

Pre-registration for the Strait Acres dual slalom and Gravity Festival DH and Enduro races is required and now available on the Team Big Bear Website

Can someone explain why Summit can come up with $5K checks for the winners at events like this consistently and UCI can only find $2K for winning an EWS or WC DH event?

Wondering the exact same thing. The UCI is pathetic.

@Skiskateshane: UCI is like the Olympics and demanded the high cost for hosting an event and compensation for the board members.

That's cause they have awesome athletes pushing to get the racers paid what the deserve! Smile

Kyle keeping it real! He cut his teeth at Snow Summit, cool to see him bring Summit back to it's old glory.

Very stoked they are having amateur classes. Feel like slalom races are usually pro only events.

Not true at all. There aren't many DS races left but Sea Otter for example has the full range of AM classes from Grom to Geezer

The slalom doesn't start at the top of the lift though. It's near the bottom and a bit of an uphill walk/ride.

Announcing this only 4 days before the event doesn’t seem conducive to a good turn out.

4 days? Kyle has been advertising this event for at least two months now. I don’t know what you are smoking.

Every pro rider knows about this event.

@kroozctrl: fair enough, I guess I just haven’t seen anything about it until this article
