Sombrio started as a cartel – a crew of freeride pioneers exploring the possibilities of what life on two wheels could bring. The spirit of freeride has been at our core since the beginning. It’s all about being creative, pushing the limits, and having fun along the way. It’s about sharing our passion with others and it’s what motivates us every day. It's also why we launched the first Freeride Scholarship in 2018.

In partnership with IMBA Canada, we are proud to announce the 2nd Sombrio Freeride Scholarship – another free ride to an all-inclusive week-long session at mountain bike camp in Whistler, BC will be awarded to a promising young rider who embodies the spirit of freeride.

About the Sombrio Freeride Scholarship

The 2019 Sombrio Freeride Scholarship is open to Canadian residents with a minimum of intermediate mountain bike skills between the ages of 13 and 18 years old, with parental consent. Each year, Sombrio will donate 10% of proceeds from all Canadian sales of a special edition collection to support the Sombrio Freeride Scholarship.*

The Scholarship includes:

- Tuition for a week-long summer bike camp in Whistler, BC with professional coaching
- Supervised accommodation
- Return transportation from anywhere in Canada
- Week-long high performance mountain bike rental

Applications for the 2019 Freeride Scholarship will be open from June 13 to July 2, 2019. Applicants must be able to attend the camp from July 13-20, 2019. Alternate dates are not available.

Sombrio has released a special edition apparel collection with a portion of proceeds going towards funding the Freeride Scholarship*. For 2019, the Special Edition collection highlights the tools of the trade.

*To spread the spirit of freeride, Sombrio will donate 10% of the proceeds from our sales of every Sombrio Special Edition Jersey or Tee sold in Canada in 2019 to IMBA Canada’s Sombrio Freeride 2020 scholarship program to send at least one child age 13-18 to a week-long mountain bike camp in Whistler, BC in Summer 2020. For sales made in Canada on sombriocartel.com, Sombrio will donate 10% of the retail purchase price; for sales made by Sombrio to Canadian wholesale dealers, Sombrio will donate 10% of the wholesale price charged by Sombrio to the dealer. If a consumer purchases a Special Edition Jersey or Tee from a dealer, they will be supporting the spirit of Freeride, but a second additional donation will not be made by the dealer.
