Trail Hunter: Gulf Islands - Video

Dec 15, 2015 at 13:31
by I Am Specialized

In this episode of Trail Hunter, Matt tests his sea legs along the Gulf Islands of British Columbia, Canada. Almost all of the island trails in the archipelago are only accessible by boat, which gave Hunter a good excuse to give sailing a try and to gain a newfound appreciation for wind. We'd say that the trails are well worth the adventure of getting there.

Matt Hunter video ~ save to favourites then watch haha

yup, except RC's narration in the EWS vids is BRUTAL. His hands wave around like he's enthusiastic, but his delivery sounds like Steven Wright.

I did a trip like this about 25 years ago with about 12 friends on a huge 45 ' catamaran, sailing from island to island with our Mt bikes on the trampoline. Best west coast trip ever, sailing, biking, drinking beer and cliff jumping into the ocean. Still have great visions of sailing into the west coast sunset, beer in hand playing backgammon with a great group of friends ... still my very best buds, and still having a gas riding together, drinking beer but not so much cliff jumping.

Is Mountain Biking Not expensive enough? ... Sailing will fix that.

I'm not so sure about this vid. The biggest segment was at the Coast Gravity Park, which is on the mainland (yet, only accessible by ferry). It would be nice to let us know which islands they went to, so we don't try and follow and wind up on Savory Island (flat as hell)

i believe the first trail was on galiano island

It was Saturna Island - Dex

Where's the last segment? Hornby or Quadra?

Great segment.

next monday 21st, after two and a half years living in Fernie is time to explore the coast…
I will move to one of the island at the gulf, I'm so exited that I have no words to describe it… and this just came out… how awesome this is going to be! thanks for the video!

Which island? As far as I know Hornby has the best mtb trail network. My mom lives on Gabriola and the riding on that island doesn't have much to offer except potential.

i live on salt spring island and there's some decent trails up on mount maxwell

The first island is saturna , they are anchored in winter cove, the last island was hornby, ,,,, the middle segment must be coast gravity park on sunshine coast

Are we seeing a new Enduro 29'er? Orange bike clearly says Enduro on the top tube (see POV footage) and similar off bike shots show a Stumpjumper looking frame (no X-Frame) -- Same bike?

Sorry, looked again and I think the first POV shot shows "Stumpjumper" on the top tube...

 29 ain't dead!
  • 2 0
Yes, it is a Stumpjumper. And yes, we're going to see a new E29, too. But not in this video.
  • 2 1
I call bullshit on the geography reference. Anything with good trails has ferry access. Powell river is on the main land. It is nice there and I'm way over due for a Hornby trip

Nice! First one was definitely Brown Ridge on Saturna, one of my favorite places in all the islands!

Southern gulf islands are full of tree hugging hippie types that hate mountian bikers. Save the search an go to Duncan
  • 2 1
Mat searches for gulf isle trail but ends up at the gravity park instead. Could have sailed to squamish and hitch hiked to whistler

Thought it was pretty funny that they're sailing a Hunter (the brand) sailboat!

A classic PNW combo of sailing and biking. Love it!
