Trekking and fishing

The mountain bike can be a vehicle for great adventures.
I used my bike to get to the local islands to catch the ellusive trout hiding in small lakes.
I packed my boat and all my camping gear into a 60 liter pack and camped in the wilderness after a good days fishing.
The trail leading to the camp gave me some dirt thrills as well.

So good. Watched with my 15 yr old. Told him this is how the lakes we go to in Ottawa used to be...Cabins with stringers full of trout, but only pike and smallmouth now. Truly nice adventure. That trail looks like someone around there has a bike. I used to do the same and sometimes my over sized pack would take me down, no high speed corners with that much weight on board, haha.

The heavy pack is a bit of a hindering.
I find panniers a much worse option for trail riding.
A stringer full of fish is why fish disappear forever.
I eat what I catch and carefully return the rest.
The fish are not harmed as I fly fish with single barbless hooks.
Perhaps your son will take up the art/sport of fly fishingSmile

@Sshredder: Yep...those pics made me cry...although the pike is what pushed out the trout...maybe overfishing too, but some of those lakes are so big it's hard to believe...although they weren't very remote lakes so they may have been overfished.

I started to teach him some of the techniques of fly fishing and he loves it...also wants to put my old 86 Trooper on the road instead of a newer better ride...good kid. Cheers, keep enjoying all that amazing nature up there.

@rcrdrvr: I find it amazing that people still want to fly fish. In fact i believe it is getting more popular!
You are showing your son good ethics. The fact that he is the next generation of fly anglers warms my heart.

 Awesome Adventure!
Fantastic array of living nature from scene to scene!
I love the shots of the fish and water!
Must watch again to take it all in.
Did I see cowboy coffee? Yum!!

Camp coffee. Get the water boiling and throw in the beans. Turn off the heat and chunks sink to the bottom! Simple and perfect for that first cup in the morning.

Yes exactly! I know it as cowboy coffee!
The best solution when your french press is at home! Smile

Just surfers and free riders in BC you have to travel east to Alberta to find cowboys lol

My parents dragged me into the forest at a very early age. Fishing and hiking are in my blood. All parents would enrich thiere children's lives if they take them for walks in the forest to appreciate nature.
