Sedona is at it again. This fall, construction is scheduled to being on the Western Gateway Trail System. The Western Gateway will be a sustainable 27-mile multiuse trail system on Coconino National Forest land in the West Sedona area.
Envisioned as a stacked loop trail system of at least 15 trails (beginner (2), intermediate (10) and advanced (3)) consisting of loops and connectors, the Western Gateway will feature incredible vistas to go with its trails of varying challenge levels.
Trail profiles and layout will create an environmentally protective and sustainable system. Connectors will tie in with trails to the north (Cockscomb/Rupp) and to the south (Red Rock Loop/Schuermann Mountain/Scorpion and Skywalker trails) permitting access to over 75 miles of singletrack from one trailhead.
With a declining budget, the Forest Service depends on a collaborative trail creation approach and while volunteers will be used extensively, professional trail crews are essential for all project aspects.
Enter the Verde Valley Cyclists Coalition (VVCC) as a collaborative fundraising partner on the project. Between now and May 31st, the VVCC is fundraising for the Western Gateway build by offering donors the opportunity to support the project and be entered to win prize giveaways valued at $9,500!
