Have you ever wondered what is possible when running 12 psi? Well look no further. We met up with Nick Clark (@RowdyFlow) in Jackson Hole to see what is possible on Tannus Armour Inserts. From the big jumps on Jimmy’s Mom to the steep and rocky descents of Lithium, Nick puts the inserts through their paces.

PSA: Don't try running 12psi with Tannus inserts... that is, unless you're 100 lb and running DH tires & rims.

He's not wrong; you'll feel some squirm at 12psi unless you're on enduro/DH tires. But if you get to the trail and you forgot your pump you can still ride. One of our guys in the office forgot his pump before riding Flying Monkey/Kong, and did it at 10 psi on his trail bike with cheap OE rims and survived.

Agreed, busted my rim with 25 PSI and Tannus insert and a DH tire

@Rhojax: was it a carbon rim?

Yeah, I think an insert at 12psi is about as relevant as Plus size tires. Neither are providing the cornering support nor protection from rock strikes that appropriate casings and pressures do. I’d like to point out there are basically no rocks of consequence in the scenes of the (sick) video.

I’ve been playing with a Tannus all summer and pinched both a Specialized Enduro casing (20psi) and Aggressor DD (21psi) in the rear resulting in damage to the carbon rim. Both events were going through rock gardens at speed. Solution has been to run a bit more pressure (23psi) and I’m good. Fwiw, I’m running the insert up front now, and it seems to have defended against a number of probable pinch flats, so there’s something there.

What are the benefits of running 12 psi? I understand that it means more grip but you it s also means that you re rolling slower... just a simple question

It was just a fun test to see if he would flat at those pressures. It doesn't mean we recommend riding like that all the time though.... One of our guys in the office runs 12-15psi all the time just because he can, but he's definitely not the fastest in the group

I get pretty sketched out about running low psi.
I had around 28pst in the front, dt swiss fr 560 with a maxxis shorty dd. Landed pretty off camber on a hip and blew the tire off the rim and did a massive scorpion.
Prob time for inserts since im 200 pounds? hah

I'm 200# on fr560. 24F and 28R on hutchinson griffus with tannus feels good, rolls fast, and doesn't do anything weird.

so happy that nick is finally getting the recognition he deserves, such a good rider.

Man I miss being able to walk out of the office at lunch and get a hitch up to ride those trails...

Great way to blow up a rim when you aren't as smooth a rider as this guy. My friend pinch flatted with tannus running 25.

Always seems weird when people run wide bars to me then hold their grips an inch away from the ends of the bar?

Step down tire grab was nice. Crankflip Drop was sick. Kid might fuck with a BMX.

 Loved the video.

Tannus…no thanks, floppy inserts that still destroy tires and rims for myself at least. Only benefit is a bit easier to install than CushCore. DH tires and rims for me only, 28-30psi
