Thomas from our Downtown Spokane, WA location recently picked up a new DV9 from Ibis Cycles and he's really excited about it. Take a couple minutes as he explains the features of the DV9 and discusses some advantages of riding a bike with no rear suspension.

A little about the DV9: Ibis' CEO has a daughter that races XC and wanted something she could use to chase podiums while still being able to shred trail and explore the backcountry. With versatility and affordability in mind, the DV9 fits this bill perfectly.

Ibis offers two formats for the DV9, Race or Roost. Thomas went with the Roost option, which means a 120mm Fox Rhythm 34 up front and 29 x 2.6" tires. This format maximizes traction and puts the head angle at 67.4°, a great happy medium between climbing efficiency and trail taming slackness.

The Race option features a 100mm travel Fox Step Cast 32 and 29 x 2.25 tires. This setup steepens the head angle by a degree, increasing climbing control and the skinnier tires roll faster while maintaining the usual characteristics of a 29" wheel. Great for bringing the hurt to your local XC race series.

With several build kits and custom options available, Ibis makes it easy to build your dream quiver killer.

Thomas is a diverse cyclist that rides several disciplines regularly, so versatility was important to him in bike selection. Ripping singletrack, local XC races, bikepacking, the DV9 has the ability to comfortably and confidently handle anything thrown at it with a simple change of tires and maybe a couple components.

It's no secret that riding a hardtail will make you a smoother and overall faster rider. Under a competent rider, a hardtail can conquer nearly anything a full suspension can. For most of us though, they are going to feel different and they force you to pick different lines or look at a certain feature in a different light, making the "same old trails" exciting again. If you find yourself riding the same trails on repeat or don't have access to a ton of riding spots locally, a hardtail is a great way to spice things up again.

Considering adding a hardtail to your quiver? There are tons of benefits. Plus, when you get back on your big bike, it'll feel like a 450. Besides, you can never have enough bikes. n+1, right?

Braaaaaaaap

Are we on the brink of another hardtail revolution?!?! Are hardtails back, or did they never leave? Which one would you pick? Let us know in the comments below.
