I get the confusion. Cutting knobs isn't very common, but can be useful for dialing in a tire for the course. Mud (spikes) tires are really the only ones that do it, and they are very niche. Most people I agree don't want/need a mud-specific tire, and if they do, it is more than likely the need for a cut-spike (the cut version of a mud spike). Brands do manufacture and sell specific cut-spikes (aka the Shorty), but it too, is a small niche market. Hitting both niche markets with one tire has been the norm for most manufacturers for years. How did he not mention tires? It doesn't matter what sport, MX, ATV, MTB, Autocross, etc... Tires is almost always the #1 upgrade.
