The first stop of the year for the Portuguese enduro caravan is BikePark Cadafaz/Rapa located in Celorico da Beira, which is known as the highest city from Portugal. After last years race where riders faced a weekend of racing under temperatures reaching 40 Celcius, this year sun was a bit shy. With the principal contenders, José Borges and Emanuel Pombo absent there was a gap that needed to be filled up by someone else.
The crew from BikePark Cadafaz/Rapa hosted a wonderful race with five special stages where riders faced a total of 1400 meters of downhill against 1200 meters of uphill, which turned into an easy race when riders were greeted with the breathtaking landscapes of Serra da Estrela.
During Saturday practice everyone had the chance to get shuttles supported by the event organisers. The odds were high for the local rider João Rodrigues being the favourite to win on his home soil but he wasn't alone, José 'Meira' or Nicolas Carrera was ready to have a strong start to the season during the race on Sunday. In the female class, Maaris Meier finished the last season with a victory at Ponte de Lima. so, at this beginning of the new season, she's hungry to keep the previous achievements but Carolina Costa and Ana Leite were there to stamp.
