Inside The Tape: The Most Important Turn at the Leogang 2019 World Cup DH
@ORTOGONAL555: You can see that they don't have the flexible joint at the base of the pole that is used in slalom. These are just regular ski field fencing/netting poles, which are perfectly practical for the rest of the track where riders aren't hitting them and still have a decent amount of flex if someone does, so it makes sense that they would use them. Plus in this case like Kaos said, they have just stuck the pole into the stump or on a steel peg to make it even worse. This is a Slalom gate pole, which im sure wont be hard to find in Leogang. https://youtu.be/09GRD0YRnYk

Slalom poles have a break away spring or rubber at the bottom, so they flex out of the way easily and have a big screw on the bottom. The poles they are using are just conduit with a metal bar in the bottom...a Slalom pole would be great, as long as it isn't taped at the top it would just get out of the way.

@Flowcheckers: that's the answer, slalom poles that have a spring in the bottom would be perfect. And attatch the tape at the bottom.

Through that whole section the 29s look awkward and bucky. They may have all that rolling Clarence but the also have a high axle to get over the awkward stumps.
