  • + 25
liked the cougar hunter cap. nice.
  • + 19
 @etboumcestlechoc: unless it's a petrol
  • + 17
@angelofverdun: time will come that I´ll buy a certain brand cause they´re the onlyone left not producing ebikes
  • - 3
@etboumcestlechoc: First it was 29er's, then Boost, now it's ebikes. Wonder what's next.
  • + 4
@CaptainSnappy: ai. no need to ride it first. it'll scout lines and adjust parameters for you.
  • + 11
@TransitionBikeCompany - Awesome, how did you get Justin Timberlake to act so well ?
Was his Smuggler in a box ?
  • + 1
 @peterguns: It's not an ebike.
  • + 1
@vikb: That is true. It is not an EBike. It is a motorcycle.

A funny Transition video, it IS!
  • + 2
 @CaptainSnappy: the return of 26
  • + 94
hahahahaahahh nice work crew, that was great!
  • + 86
I'm in the middle of a transition myself. Do you have a women's model?
  • + 24

Anybody else notice the username for the PB post on the video was carbonsmuggler420 hahaha!!!!!! love it!
  • + 27
I mean.. that was half the joke..
  • + 10
@JohanG That comment was actually real. Just looked it up.

  • + 8
I remember reading that comment/username and thinking what the F. There’s just so much weird stuff happening with these PB trolls I just kept scrolling.
  • + 5
Yeah remember seeing the comment also and said to myself ''what a cunt! Why be so rude with them...'' hahaha
  • + 1
 @ninjammin: Thanks
  • + 22
Hellzzz Yeah! Finally going to get on some carbon goodness and start showing the kiddies who's the trail boss, SO watch out!!!

**checks bank account balance.. can't even afford the AL version..**
  • + 1
Yeah. Awesome bikes, but dang expensive. Wen't with an AL Jeffsy. Better component spec, similar geo, and much much more affordable.
  • + 14
@Poulsbojohnny: yeah but you want a smuggler.. don't deny it...
  • + 2
@Poulsbojohnny: shoot the 18’ carbon model only 3.5k is a smoking deal. YT may have my next buy too. Just torn between the 29 and 27.5 Jeffsy. Choices choices
  • + 1
 @Poulsbojohnny:

Oooo I've been eyeing a 29r AL Jeffsy.. You like it?
  • + 2
 @howsyourdad:

Smuggler, ...maybe.. Sentinel.. Absolutely!!.. Will I end up settling for something else?... Most likely.. Frown
  • - 1
@Allmost: I rented the Sentinel for a day and rode the hell out of it. Love it, especially descending but it was heavy compared to other brands and that hurt its climbing prowess. It’s a blast of a bike but if I’m going to spend $4k+ on a bike that I want to do almost everything with there are better options out there, and for less. Speaking for my personal preferences solely. Everyone is going to have different input. I’m happy I rented prior to compulsively buying and somewhat having buyers remorse.
Next I’m renting a Smuggler, if that doesn’t fit the bill I know I’ll end up buying a Jeffsy.
-Cheers
  • + 3
Theres the YT comment now just waiting on the We Are One comment.... Any minute now...
  • - 1
@2bigwheels: Ah yes. The sainted YT. All praise be upon them.
  • + 3
@Allmost: allow me to chime in here. I test rode a friend's large alu jeffsy 29er for a bikepark lap. It felt cramped compared to my medium honzo even. i am no fan of the short reach and comparably long chainstays. That was in 2016. They haven't changed their geo since then, which i think should have been done.
During that same test ride, the front wheel loosened a rock from the trail which hit the downtube in the BB area, which left a dent in the seemingly fragile aluminum. The front triangle had to be replaced, so it was quite a costly test ride. My impression is, that yt try to make their alu frames as light as possible, thereby sacrificing material strength.
Needless to say, i have looked elsewhere afterwards, and settled on a 2017 smuggler. Couldn't be happier.
  • + 1
@rynee: I can’t wait to get on a Smuggler, haven’t had the opportunity to ride their old or new one. I like a tad shorter reach than the Sentinel L offered, my back was in pain by three quarters through a 24 mile ride. I may try out a M and see how that feels if the L feels too long again.
Your Jeffsy comment is the first I have herd of having issues, but the ppl I have talked to that have them have the carbon models. Lot of praises about them though. The price point is great too.
Cheers
  • + 16
2.3, disappointing. I love my DHR II 2.4, especially in the PNW winter.
  • + 23
don't worry pork, tranny's a bit conservative i'm sure you're 2.4 will fit, it does on my 2015 smuggler. met a dude with e13 tires front and back on his OG smug and it fit as well, which is as big as 2.5 minion. don't lose hope my porkine friend.
  • + 2
@jamesbrant: oh hell even a 2.6 will fit. He’s just complaining about nothing that matters haha
  • + 1
@andnyleswillriot: Still, some us like options, and I for one would love to be able to run a 275x2.8 or 29x2.6 tire.
  • + 8
You can still run the DHR, but depending on your riding style, you may get quite a bit of rub on corners. On my carbon Patrol I ran 2.5 tires on Derby rims and it rubbed the finish down to the raw carbon. On my carbon Scout I started out on 2.4 tires on DT FR570 rims and the tires still rubbed the finish off. Now I run 2.3 HR IIs. I learned two things. One, I don't care about the finish on my bike. Two, I didn't benefit from wider tires.
  • + 2
Yeah that aint big. 2.4 / 2.5 is my go to width.
  • + 2
Always ran a 2.4 on my 2017 Smuggler. Never even noticed the tire recommendation until now!
  • + 4
A Maxxis 2.4" tire is basically a 2.2" tire so you are fine. Wink
  • + 1
@vikb: actually that is a fair point
  • + 1
@jamesbrant: I ran 2.5 Minion on my '17 patrol no problem! You're all good Smile
  • + 15
YAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSS!!!!!!! Finally!!!! Take my $$$$$$$$$$$$!!!!!! (shoulda went 157...but take my $$$$ anyways!!!)
  • + 15
"Tire clearance up to a 2.3"?

Really?
  • - 4
flag skinnyjeans (Jan 18, 2018 at 15:12) (Below Threshold)
I agree, 2.3'' and the white color is aweful. Shame
  • + 14
Needs a DPX and 36 like the other bikes in the lineup.
  • + 2
And like the one being ridden in the video
  • + 11
Serious Question - Is there a video-take where the net got thrown too early?
  • + 7
Haha, great vid. Always piggyback shocks in the videos, but no piggyback shocks in the builds! Their smashing > our smashing is probably the answer to that question.
  • + 1
My 2016 Patrol ame stock with a piggyback.
  • + 9
 @CarbonSmuggler420 so how's the ride?
  • + 7
Interesting that the bike in the video has a Fox 36 and DPX2 shock but the bike for sale has a Fox 34 and a DPS shock.
A little insight into what they'd prefer to be riding?
  • + 2
A lot of the time they get prototype or production frames from the manufacturer and they build it up with what they have for parts on hand. Based on the shipping availability of a lot of their kits right now, it's very possible they don't have any full smuggler build kits at the head office which is why they just used what's on hand.
  • + 2
Im pretty sure Larz in a fox rider....... on film=contracts. Just a guess
  • + 2
@steflund: There are definitely guys at Transition that ride their Smugglers with a 36 and DPX2. I'd assume they specd the Smuggler with the 34 and DPS to give their lineup more diversity.
  • + 2
Weight. Every dork is going to be on the forums asking the early buyers what the bike weighs, and will scream holy hell if it starts with a 3. Which kinda makes sense for a short travel carbon trail bike...
  • + 2
@yzedf: haha well they're going to be disappointed.
  • + 2
@TheStabbyCyclist: That's exactly my point. They ride their bikes with the parts they have on hand/what they prefer. A video doesn't necessarily dictate what the build kit will be on the bike.
  • + 7
I've always liked Transition's videos, but Skye has really raised the bar! Awesome stuff!
  • + 1
yup. they were good. now they're great
  • + 8
Maybe Wile E. Coyote should have tried beer.
  • + 21
Road runners are desert dwellers, he should have tried meth
  • + 6
You sons a bitches. I waited so damned long for this bike and finally had to pull the trigger on something else.
  • + 6
@TransitionBikeCompany Wheres My Carbon Patrol?! I need it now!!!!!! WTF!!!!! Dude.
  • + 3
Is there better seatpost insertion on these? I can't fit a 150mm Fox Transfer on mine with my leg length on the medium. Really hate the 125mm dropper! First world problems I know, but I saw the sentinel gained some insert.
  • + 12
 Grow longer legs you toddler.
  • + 5
 @raditude: I've been trying!!!!
  • + 0
 @kmg0: Well try harder.
  • + 4
I'd be keen to try out a 1-year demo! Can trade for equal weight in Canadian beer/maple syrup/bacon.
@TransitionBikeCompany
  • + 8
Ah 12 kilos of Molson Light. They’d be fools not to!
  • + 5
@maxlombardy: We don't have light beer in Canada.
  • + 2
@bishopsmike: Ahahahahahahaa, That's a good one. Offer up Molson when they are showcasing Kulshen brewery in the vid. What Transition is to bikes, Kulshen is to beer.
  • + 1
 @bishopsmike: Kokanee or no deal.
  • + 6
@maxlombardy: If I brought 'Molson Light' to a party in Canada, I'd be laughed at by everyone, including underage kids and dogs, and then ridiculed for years afterwards. I'd order a Shirly Temple in a Mexican biker bar before that shite.
  • + 3
@Poulsbojohnny: I didn't offer up Molson, ya tool. I'd get them a few growlers of Beau's for their troubles.
  • + 3
@Poulsbojohnny: I'd say Transition is more like Rogue
  • + 1
@ismasan: no, Spesh is more like Rogue. 18 flavors of the same thing.
  • + 5
More Steel Pulse in my bike porn please!
  • + 1
I find it odd that any expensive item reviewed on PB gets loads of complaints from commenters here, yet these are often also the same people that clamor for a carbon version of a bike with marginal benefits compared to a massive price tag.
  • + 1
This is great stuff !! Still a little sour about ordering a Aluminum Sentinel and the carbon was dropped so shortly after. And not because of Material but more to do with the Diet it went on. Oh well its still going to be F?!*!?!! Awesome!
  • + 2
No kidding, I couldn't believe that the Carbon Sentinel is almost 2.5 pound lighter than than the metal. That's a huge difference.
  • + 1
Hmm, full bike weight? I think that frame weight is fairly heavy, no? I believe they want to make sure their carbon frames are stout if I remember correctly after a few controversial issues with the Patrol carbon. But for me if I was in the market for this as a weight weenie I'd be looking for a full build around 27-28lbs for a size M-L.
  • + 29
Well, my friend, you can install some svelte 28.99mm cranks to get your bike weight down to 27.99lbs!
  • + 3
 @Thustlewhumber: #jokeoftheweek!
  • + 1
Check out the YT Jeffsy carbon bikes. Way cheaper and lot lighter. Great company too. Between YT and Transition, my two fave bike companies, hands down.
  • + 5
please make a 2018 patrol in carbon!
  • + 4
Nice video guys! ...now where's my carbon scout :p
  • + 1
Already bought my aluminum Smuggler but I am happy to see the carbon anyhow. Transition just keeps impressing me. Now where are the people bitching about how heavy the bikes are?
  • + 1
ITALIANS and LIGURIANS if someone want to test new Smuggler we have a test bike in Nava this sunday. More info @ Nava Freeride Enduro Paradise FB www.facebook.com/NavaFreeridepark
  • + 2
4 years of work and apparently 4 minutes spent in the graphics department. These two tone paint jobs are ruining your bikes. Put some effort into it @transitionbicycles
  • + 2
Absolutely agreed. I'm torn between carbon scout or this carbon smuggler now, but the paint is terrible. I'm an automotive painter, so the very first thing I'll do with either one I get will be to repaint it before putting it together.
  • + 10
Come on. The colors are great. Some companies try too hard. *Cough* Santa Cruz, some Giant models... etc. Blue, green, orange, black, I have yet to find a Transition bike that I don't like. But that's just me. Anyone else?
  • + 4
@eurospek It's called branding - and every year TR is getting more cohesive with all of the aspects (web, graphics, bike graphics, t-shirts, beer etc...) The bike graphics complement the frame geometry, and are as competently done as any other bike company's graphics. The bike graphics communicate what their company and brand is about.

But hey - at least you're not one of those folks who say "who cares what the bike looks like, its all about function".
  • + 4
@twozerosix: I don't think he's saying they ARE terrible. I think he's saying they've BEEN terrible for some time now. Pabst Bottlerocket was the peak.
  • + 8
@raditude: a launch edition model in special Internet Troll camouflage would be neat though.
  • + 3
@twozerosix: f*ck yes. That sort of creative thinking is what they're missing in the paint dept.
  • + 2
To each their own . . . I absolutely LOVE that bone white!!!!!! For that matter, I like just about all of Transition's paint schemes Smile
  • + 0
@mtbikeaddict: Same for me!! Hate so much those Santa Cruz colors but Transition... wow!! If you don't want the blue, orange or whatever, they pretty much always have a grey/black that is sure to be really nice! But I really like this one in white!!
  • + 2
I'm here to hate on boost and metric shocks, and super mega trail boost too. Wait... we only hate those things when they're components?
  • + 2
 Hey @TransitionBikeCompany
Does the bottlerocket at 3:51 have anything to do with plans for a newer Transition Bottlerocket? It sure would be nice.
  • + 4
Man. People really want 29s don't they.
  • + 4
These guys do the best vids!
  • + 3
Reminds me of the trail crazies at tokul!
  • + 1
as an owner of a '15 smuggler with a nice set of LB carbon wheels, boost 148 is disappointing. my next frame will be en Evil The Following with 142mm I guess!
  • + 2
Gotta move to boost eventually even Evil is moving to boost. Plus changing hubs isn't hard.
  • + 3
 Transition wins at marketing.
  • + 3
I've been waiting for this moment for so long.
  • + 2
That was a job well done Skye....keep em coming buddy! Really enjoyable mon.

  • + 1
So torn. I Have a BottleRocketand TR450. I want to replace my Mojo HD with a new trail bike with a 29er... Ripley vs this? Hmm
  • + 1
Another great video! But what's the deal with not caring about the Scout??!! Love my carbon Scout! That line did crack me up though.
  • + 3
I never found that sixpack in my forest.
  • + 3
These bike video scripts nowadays are like porn movie script.
  • + 1
The smuggler flies under a lot of peoples radar, so hopefully this will peak some interest in this bike.
  • + 2
DPS and fox 34 are questionable on high-end build
  • + 2
How? Factory 34 or 36 are both pretty common on high end builds. So is factory dps.
  • + 1
Just realized p elite. Still quality.
  • + 1
@onemanarmy: some other site reviewing a bike with elite OEM mentioned the performance difference is so little with factory these days that there's not much to upgrade
  • - 2
@onemanarmy: DPS is a disappointing shock. at 160mm of travel this thing is meant to be sent pretty hard, a 36 would be nice to see on the top spec at least.
  • + 0
 Whoops quoted sentinel numbers
  • + 1

  • + 15
 Work.
  • + 9
From an employer for work done.
  • + 3
You Profile shows you had and Intense Tracer with decent build for that time. That frame was almost $2000 and you had an M16 DH bike worth way more than $2000 even used. So there is that....
  • + 8
Mine comes from a credit card, I don't use money. I also ignore alot of cell phone calls from blocked numbers; is that a coincidence?
  • + 1

  • + 1
Great video and cool looking bike but 2.3 max tire size? Really? This isnt 2003.
  • + 2
Transition is going to be my next bike. Which one is the big question
  • + 2
Sentinel would be my pick... I think. Scout, Sentinel, Patrol, Smuggler... Hm... I'm with you there... all so awesome... Now if only I could afford one. Big Grin

Great video. Really enjoyed the shock value of seeing a Nissan instead of a Toyota in a mountain bike video
  • + 1
If I get pulled by PD on my way to bike park, I hope they dont spot this new Transition in the back under the covers.
  • + 1
I read the headline as "New Carbon Snuggler"! That's a different bike altogether.

  • + 2
 Killing it guys. Amazing
  • + 1

  • + 4
We're mountain bikers, we don't play ball sports
  • + 1
@raditude: huntings not a ball sport. But mouintain biking is ten times better than any other sport.
  • + 1
Hunting is 2nd best sport. But MTB is still the top. The video was pretty good.
  • - 1
Finally! But how is the long wheelbase 47.7 inch going to behave compared to others like Norco sights 46.8 or Jeffsy 46.3 inches? All other numbers look dialed!
  • + 5
Great because the jeffsy felt too short and twitchy
  • + 1
 @Richt2000: Than take my money!
  • + 1
 better. much better.
  • + 1
