 Great post. Surprised to hear your thoughts that the higher Gen 1 HSC was often used. Most everyone I know and most every review and pro bike check almost always noted running HSC full open or damn near. At least that was the case with the RC2 and it had less max HSC per the dyno. But I recognize the system needs to be considered as a whole along with spring and chassis.

 Running either LSC or HSC full open on the Gen1 version of the Grip2 damper led to VERY low compression damping, as the LS bleed was so large that it could effectively allow oil through with almost no restriction when fully open. HSC fully open on those dampers allows float in the HSC shims, so again, pretty well zero damping from the base valve.

I don't think that anyone (except maybe at Rampage or something) used the absolute upper reaches of the full range on the Grip2 damper (whereas a few did on the RC2) - to get the curves shown there, you have to have both LSC and HSC pretty well fully closed, which is a very harsh ride in terms of the LSC being really hugely overkill. That then begs the question why the Gen 1 damper was able to be set so firm to begin with. Running the HSC fully closed with LSC fully open is actually a pretty comfortable ride on that just because there is so little damping even at high speeds. Not the best for stability and control in my opinion, but you can certainly ride a fork with no compression damping - numerous forks over the years have not even had a compression damper at all. Not optimal, but certainly not unrideable.

 you got a pre-production damper model !!. lol. In al seriousness though, what I understood from reading too much is that small adjustment range means you need custom valving, am I right ?
