Back Forty lets go

PRESS RELEASE: Back Forty

A Beast, Refined

This year takes the best parts of last year's race and adds in better food, bigger prizes and a course that's way more fun (and less of a slog). We're sticking with a three stage format with a rolling-start and self-seeding. Competitive racers can start up front and hammer. While regular mortal riders can enjoy the ride in a more casual atmosphere.

Registration is only $99 and 100% of proceeds go towards new trail construction and summer programming for the Indigenous Life Sport Academy.

Three Stages

Stage 1: Westside Workout

This stage gets the most changes compared to year 1. We wanted to minimize the jank and keep the wheels turning on the way down and across. More blue and less punch climbs are the name of the game.

Stage 2: Beaver's Epic

Stage 2 has new start at the top of Beaver Pass which leads to a fun cruise down A Cut Above before mashing up 27 Switchbacks. So much good riding in this part of the course.

Stage 3: Howl at the Rainbow

We've kept the best parts of this stage and removed the soul crushing traverse through the No Flow Zone. There's still a lot of snow up on the Flank here, so we may see this stage go down Prowler.

Cash Purse and Prizing

Thanks to the generous support of our sponsors, there will be a ton of prizes at this year's race. Plus, winners of the Open Men's and Open Women's categories walk away with a cool $1000.
New for this year is the Chromag Hardtail Category.

Open Men: $1000
Open Women: $1000
Chromag Hardtail Category: Mystery Prize??
Draw Prizes and Swag: Great prizes and swag from OneUp Components, Chromag, Gogglesoc, Specialized, Sundial Hotel and more!

This week's rain and warm weather should help clear the course. Forecast is looking promising for the race too!

Sounds awesome! I know quite a few people who have entered and are stoked on it!

The future of gruelling XC racing? It'll be an amazing early season test of your mortality. Stoked!

Course, apres, and prizing all look amazing. And considering the proceeds go to a pair of incredibly worthy organizations, this is a no-brainer way to spend the day!

That 27 switchbacks climb is an absolute brute of a climb. Not looking forward to that in the slightest.

OH yes, but it leads to the Binty/Billy timed descent!

 And the howler climb
  • 2 0
@ridingloam: Billy's is always worth the hurt.

@kevin267: For some of us the last section is more appropriately called the Howler push.
  • 1 0
@gb8561: It was reported that even the top 2 finishers did the Howler push.

Love the slight changes from last year. These folks know how to put on a rad event!

Best race! But next year lets do Zanarchy, Gargamal and push things a little further.

Is this the final course? I've noticed its changed a bit the past few days. Only Stage 1 though... It was routed along the Dessert Trails and Beaver Pond before.

Wicked looks like a grind and a hoot!

The No Flow Zone was my favourite part

 There's no way that's true.

 @WORCA: hahahahahaha

@WORCA: Can any race in Whistler achieve legendary status without some No Flow Zone???
  • 1 0
@shirk-007: Depends on the weather. If it snows next week, a Lost Lake lap could be legendary.

@WORCA: Sure it is true. I was grooving and flying there last year. Old school skills for the flow man!

Sweet. (How come this doesn’t show up in the Trailforks “events near me” section? Actually curious)

 Let's go!
