I grew up riding extensively with Adam Krefting, the inventor / founder / owner of CushCore, between 1995 and 1998 — we went to the same high school and we both rode hard (and Adam Schaeffer who owns The Downhill Zone bike shop in Issaquah, WA, likewise went to high school with us). This is Adam Krefting on my 1994/95 Intense M1 in 1996 or 97 at the famous Oakridge, Oregon MTB festival and races. He had an Alpinestars rocker-link bike with Judy fork but chose to race my Intense M1 after I got injured. The refurbished 1994 Intense M1 team frame (sold to me as a complete beautiful bike with new parts by Jeff Steber) was spec’d in this picture with: 4.5” travel RST Mozo Pro fork, 27” Azonic bar, King headset, Mavic 261 rims, Nuke Proof carbon front hub, XT rear hub, Ringlé front skewer, Kore stem, XT V-brakes, XT M737 drivetrain, Topline cranks, Intense big ring, Bullet Bros chain tensioner, Tioga Psycho TT tires, SDG Kevlar saddle, Control Tech post, and Shimano M747 pedals.

Mt Hood Ski Bowl,1998, second in pro / open dual slalom behind the legend, Darrell Young. Qualified #2 and finished #2, age 16. That’s top-15-to-20 NORBA downhiller (97-02 or so) Jim Johnston in 3rd.

Whistler Joyride Bikercross 2000 — crazy 30mph+ 60-foot (lip to touch-down) jumps that were similar to Crabapple Hits. Qualified #1 in pro, finished 6th after being snapped by beasts like Wade Boots.

Whistler Joyride Bikercross 2001. Qualified 6th, but it was literally my first time on any bike in 11 months after a major arm surgery and studying like a madman at UW in Seattle. Then I was taken out by a 6’4” 200 pound Kiwi pro who ran off course, completely cut a long corner with 100+ people on it, and T-boned me intentionally when reentering the course — I was out for another 6 months after he landed on me with full body weight, crushing and reinjuring my arm.
