Opinion: Friends Don't Let Friends Ride E-Bikes
I am a hiker, and a biker. I don't dislike either one. As a hiker, I step aside when I hear a biker coming. Many times I will smile and say hello. I also bring my dog with me when on foot, who is always on a leash if bikes are granted access to that particular trail. There's no reason to endanger his life and the lives of others by letting him roam free. There are plenty of other places he can do that. As a biker, I must be aware of my surroundings and the obstacles that lie in my path, which can include hikers. Both hikers and bikers must watch out for equestrians, as horses can do the most damage if spooked, and nobody wants to be stomped on by a horse. I have never been met with negativity towards any form of trail use in which I choose to participate. In my experience, the people who are out on the trails are there to enjoy the outdoors, and are happy to do so with others whatever style is chosen. That being said, an e-biker is a motor biker. If the e-biker rides with caution and responsibility, I am happy to share the trails with them. If the motor takes them to locations beyond their ability and skill levels, this will surely result in danger for them and those whose paths are crossed. Hopefully, the e-bikers will obey trail restrictions. If they get my local trails closed due to causing accidents and endangering others, this is when I will have a problem with e-bikes.

Video: Dear Motorist
Yeah, no kidding! I was doored last night on my way home. Some jackoff buzzed by me with inches to spare, so I moved closer to the parked cars on the side of the road. At that instant, a woman opened the door of one of those parked cars. I smashed into the door, and then onto the ground. My front wheel is a taco, but I escaped with minor cuts and contusions. I sure am fortunate that the wheel took the brunt of the force. I'm also glad I had my helmet on. The lady could have cared less that I was hurt. She just said, "I just bought this car. $hit." Not even a shred of sympathy or an apology. After walking a mile towards home (5 more to go), a gentleman in a Tacoma offered to give me a lift. He was a righteous dude. I'm picking up a new wheel today, and I'll be back on the steed tomorrow. I wish my commute could be accomplished on dirt.

Pinkbike Poll: Do You Live Where You Want?
I live on Alameda Island in the San Francisco Bay. I can bike to some singletrack in the Oakland Hills, but there's some sketchy areas in between. Santa Cruz and Marin are a stone's throw away and boast some pretty tasty trails. A flow trail was added to my favorite local spot north of San Quentin. Tahoe is only a little over 3 hours away. I really have nothing to complain about, and I definitely make the best of what's around. I moved here from Southeast Michigan, so it was definitely a step in the right direction. All that said, I am actively searching for a job in the PNW. If all goes well, I'll be up there within a year. Maybe put down roots with the wife and pooch somewhere near Seattle, and put my bikes and skis to good use.
