Press Release: YT Industries

JEFFSY has always been about friendship on the trail while having your back in any situation. Now, YT Industries takes it back to the 90s with a limited, retro-inspired Uncaged 13 edition, mixing things up with an MX-specific frame and custom, nostalgic silver components.

Exclusive to this model, the Uncaged 13 features an MX wheel setup – 27.5” rear wheel, 29" front. Rear travel jumps up to 150mm for extra flat landing assistance, plus the shorter chainstays of 432mm (size S-L) and 437mm (XL-XXL) promote agility and slashing corners. Make no mistake, though – this is a thoroughbred Jeffsy, and the remaining measurements match the original 29" platform, including the 77-degree effective seat tube angle across all five sizes

Embracing Marzocchi's freeride heritage is an air-sprung Bomber Z1 fork with 36mm stanchions and an easy-to-set-up GRIP damper. The Bomber Air rear shock matches this trait, positioning itself as a workhorse for all types of riding. Renthal provides a one-off silver Fatbar & Apex stem cockpit, while matching Crankbrothers Synthesis Enduro 2 wheels and SRAM G2 Ultimate brakes complete the throwback look. Touchpoints from ODI x Vans and SDG tie the build together alongside a cable-actuated SRAM GX groupset, adjustable YT Postman V2 dropper, and Maxxis EXO+ tires.

 Apart from the G2's...

@dmackyaheard: right but for the price of a frame on most brands, it is a detail

The wife would def notice this was a new bike. Keep it all black all the time if you need to at this point in your life.

@dmackyaheard: Weak braking is dedication to the retro theme.

@suspended-flesh: Or not sneak around and hide things from your spouse. If ya have to hide it, you probably shouldn't be doing it & if you "have" to be under honest then you have bigger problems.
  • 32 10
@tipsword: sounds like your wife has ya by the balls

@nskerb: Actually, that would be suspended-flesh having to skulk about hiding his toys so he doesn't have to hear about where he spent the money.

"The wife would def notice this was a new bike. Keep it all black all the time if you need to at this point in your life"

I don't need to do that, I'm encouraged to get what I want & thanks for the concern about my balls too that's mighty kind.

@tipsword: so do you just not find things funny or is it just this particular joke?

@tipsword: I didn't say I NEEDED to sneak around - been married 20+ years - but if you're not skulking around, you're not livin', man. Re-read my reply above. That said, my wife and I have NEVER a joint account and have successfully raised 3 kids! If you have an accountant for a wife, I'm sorry, but there is Affirm and CashApp and whatnot for the rest of us.

@tipsword: how many bikes do you have?
  • 2 4
 @WillW123: Total? four
  • 6 7
@grnmachine02: To be honest, it was the joke. I think I just hit my personal record for down votes, I'm thinking the next thing will be getting stuck in the pillory and getting pelted with tomatoes.
  • 7 10
@tipsword: No harm but you came off as a major virtue-signaler. I was inferring that the OP only bought black bikes to fly under the spouse-radar. I'm operating on the "honey, where did that new (not new - different) truck come from?" level.
  • 28 1
@tipsword: This is a long standing joke and you took it seriously, hence the downvotes. But you're not wrong; the guy who feels like he has to hide purchases from his wife and hope she doesn't notice definitely has it worse than the guy who can say, "Hey Babe, check out this bike I'm getting. What color would you choose?" and his wife says, "Looks awesome! I'd get the retro version. Have fun."

 This guy gets it ^

 @tipsword:

@tipsword: Clearly you believe your wife when she responds to your question:

"Hey, are those new shoes?"

Her: "Oh these things? Noooooooooooooo, I've had these for years, I just don't wear them much"

"But what about that price tag that's on the heel?"

Her: "Darliiiiiiiing, shall we have an "early" night tonight..........
  • 3 0
@Mfro: an early night in exchange for a pair of shoes? Deal!

@dmackyaheard: I have a set of Guide R's on a bike I bought in 2016 and they still work well enough for me. Haven't bled them in three years either. I guess I'm not a skilled rider or braker, but I have no complaints.
  • 3 0
@dmackyaheard: I´m running G2´s on my DH and enduro bike. I even tested them last year on ex-World cup track in Meribel and on the Morzine steeps and they seem pretty good to me. They are little bit more powerful than guide R and on pair with Shimano SLX that i tried too.
  • 1 0
@Bmxtar: how many shoes for a bike?
  • 1 0
@MartinKadlec01: I suppose it depends on what kind of terrain you are riding them in and the pace that you ride. I had G2's on a 120mm XC bike with 180 rotors and they were barely enough for that bike when you were pushing it on steeper trails. I carried them over to my trail bike with 200mm HS2 rotors and MTX Red pads, which made an improvement, but there are still times when they are simply not powerful enough in steeper and looser terrain. I am not an amazing rider by any extent, but when you find yourself unable to stop with both levers pulled as hard as you can, then your brakes simply are not powerful enough.
  • 3 0
@suspended-flesh: My wife buy black bikes too. I should check if it's still a 2020 epic evo or something else..
  • 1 0
@tipsword: What do you have against tomatoes?
  • 1 0
@BiNARYBiKE: But what about the guy who says, "Hey babe, check out this bike I'm getting". And his wife says, "Pick a hospital if you buy it"! Sometimes it's better to say nothing :-)
  • 1 0
@dmackyaheard: Just got my g2's on the poland world cup dh track this weekend and they were powerfull enough. But i can recommend getting galfer e-bike pads, game changer for that brakes.
  • 146 14
I initially thought it was retro due to the lack of motor and battery.

 Silver renthal is sick

Silver rims are also badass. They look equally good for pretty much however long you own them.. What a concept, right?!!

 Silver Renthals? ❤️

i like them but they also hurt my eyes

More companies need to do silver rims.
  • 7 0
I've been saying the same for both MTB and moto. Need that clean early 2000s factory MX look to make a comeback!!

Reverse Components are sweating rn after people are realising silver rims are cool
  • 4 0
A polished commencal with polished reverse rims a polished chromag bar and some polished hope spacers and stem, that would be a lovely looking bike. silver all the way. I love Poland.

Almost want to get one for the 4th of July.
  • 12 0
Or for the 14th of July in my area Wink
Super good looking bike. The chrome/silver details are neat.
  • 6 1
Do you mean the July 4?
  • 2 0
@Bitelio: growing up in that continent, I never noticed that they say 4th of July, against their traditional naming convention.
  • 2 0
@danstonQ: hell yeah. Red White and Blue for life brother.
  • 2 0
 @daugherd: Yeah! 17th of May!
  • 16 0
Looks fun but rather have old codes than G2s, come on!
  • 76 1
G2’s provide a throwback to the days before trail bikes had good brakes.
  • 5 0
@xciscool: I could relive that feeling on FB marketplace for $20
  • 11 0
@xciscool: Some silver Avid Elixers would have really tied the build together
  • 2 0
As in the last ones that were branded as Avid? They were supposedly really good and were being used by people like Semenuk at Rampage until surprisingly recently
  • 1 0
SRAM bought Avid, essentially rebranded already.
  • 4 4
@samdaman1: They we good when bled well, but were a huge pain to bleed well even when brand new. And since the master cylinder internals were pretty fragile, they were even harder to bleed well after just a little bit of usage.

I still have some white Elixirs, that the local shop didn't even want for their pile of donated "emergency spares", because it would take so much effort to get them OK to even give away free. They're slated to go on my still-in-progress "deconstructed bicycle" art piece along with a broken frame and some cracked rims, because that's about how useful they are compared to modern brakes.

Guide/G2 has become basically the Nickelback of contemporary brakes: everyone loves to hate them, but they don't actually know why). With the SwingLink lever (RS or RSC) and the right pads (MTX Red FTW!) they are quite solid.
  • 4 0
I'd just replace with some silver TRP DH-R evos then it'd be primo
  • 4 2
@justinfoil: Yeah a well bled set of Guides or G2s (any of the ones with bearings in the lever) are actually pretty good if they're well aligned with good rotors and decent properly bedded in pads, although they do have a bit of a low ceiling as far as overheating is concerned. The aftermarket alloy lever piston makes a pretty big difference to consistency too
  • 1 0
@Dogl0rd: Not if they put “Retro” in the ad. That adds hundreds to any old bike.
  • 2 0
Slap some mavens or some DHR EVO’s on that babyyyyy
  • 1 0
@VtVolk: but then nobody would notice your cool need bike, because they would be looking for that poor turkey that's being r*ped
  • 1 0

 I need those wheels...
  • 8 0
If Crankbros would sell a run of these I'd give them all my money
  • 8 0
That is a GOOD look whip!
  • 6 0
Funny how nineties colors and silver components can make even a modern mtb (somewhat) nice to look at.
Almost makes you think modern mtb's are maybe a bit… boring?
  • 7 0
 gimme that silver renthal stem...

If you're in the States you can use promo code halfcab20 to knock 20% off, brings it down to $2,799 USD.
  • 3 1
Also #starkitup420 for 20% off but that expires today I think.
  • 1 0
Out of curiosity: where you guys get the promo codes from? Are they posted somewhere on YT sites (official/fb)? I searched for some to be used in Europe but al codes from 3rd parties sites' seem to be scum.
  • 2 0
@Borro: I follow YT rider Dylan Stark on IG and he has been sharing it for a few weeks. YT had a 20% off promo and shared codes in various ways. YT is always having sales, though. It's hard not to find a good deal.
  • 2 0
@Borro: Actually just subscribe to their email distro.
  • 2 0
@suspended-flesh thanks, I have subscribed and will monitor yt's official media
  • 5 0
 Intense colours, love the wheels
  • 5 0
Please please Renthal release these silver components to the world!!
  • 3 0
Actually such a well done retro look that the thumbnail had me thinking this was a Throwback Thursday article. The Marzocchi is the icing on the cake!
  • 1 0
Anyone know if you can fit a longer dropper post (deeply) than stock on this frame? I wish the frame manufactures included max post insertion dimensions on their geo charts. I will ride a size down but want to have a longer dropper, ideally 200mm, but the M size frame comes stock with a 150mm dropper. I want to slam the seat out of the way as far as possible.

Pair that bike with a Bomb pop and you're good to go

 ... and silver rims pleaaaaaase!

Beautiful bike. 'MURICA! If only I had the money for another arrow...
  • 3 0
I love it. Pretty dang good price too!
  • 3 0
Can I buy the bars and stem separate?
  • 3 0
It needs to come with an Evil Knievel kit
  • 3 0
If it was truly retro, it would have 26” wheels.
  • 2 0
we need a 2024/2025 trail bike with 26" wheels or a 26/27.5 wheel setup and modern geometry and modern components
  • 2 0
Still love and ride my 1994 26" mtb. No urge to go any bigger, and no need too either, as we (my friends ride 26" too) easily keep up with the other riders on the local trails.
  • 1 0
They should have replaced the Marzocchi red shock colors with blue. It's sticking out like a sore thumb in the blue section of the bike.
  • 2 0
Should've called it the Optimus Prime edition

Is this an indicator that YT has an excess of frames and is finding ways to “refresh” their old inventory?
  • 5 0
They just refreshed the Jeffsy not long ago I thought. Plus this is the only mixed wheel version so definitely not old stock.
  • 5 0
Nah. YT does these "uncaged" editions of their bikes periodically and seem to rotate through the lineup. The "uncaged" builds are actually kind of a cool thing to look through over on their website.
www.yt-industries.com/products/uncaged

The last one was a "space flight" themed Capra with all flight attendant, transmission and built in power meter.

Release before that were those snazzy gold and grey ones with Ohlins suspension on the Izzo, Capra and Tues.
  • 2 0
Go down a size and look for the side hits!
  • 1 0
And if you really want to play the retro card! Bikes are crazy big (long reach and wheel base dimensions in particular) these days and I am always downsizing on modern equipment. I have ridden enough different bikes(and terrain) over the years to know which dimensions work for me.
  • 2 0
 No retro 26” wheels either
  • 2 0
G2s just dont belong on MTBs
  • 1 0
Nobody catch that the left brake lever is black and the right is silver?? Detail pics on YT site
  • 3 0
as a product photographer i'm 99% sure this is silver/chrome as well and just reflecting the dark background instead of the foreground light source. see the colour difference between the lever's clamp and the lever itself as well as the riding shots
  • 1 0
Disappointed it doesn’t come with a matching spandex kit and a foam core helmet.

Love the 90’s vibes though.
  • 1 0
Mine came with a neon over the shoulder thing but no foam helmet
  • 1 0
Am I too old to be cool? Yes. Am I old enough to think THIS is cool? Also yes.
  • 1 0
I dig it, can’t lie, wish more brands released unique models like this one
  • 1 0
@crankbrothers please release these silver wheels for sale to the masses. We will buy them.
  • 4 4
They've done a good job, even looking at the pictures the geo looks old school.
  • 1 0
It does make the HT angle look steep!
  • 1 0
That silver rear triangle makes this YT look like a Reeb from far away.
  • 3 3
It looks like a big box store knock-off from a distance. Delightfully ugly. Well done, YT.
  • 1 0
Kona called. They want their colors back.
  • 2 2
Gotta admit, their marketing is fantastic. They are a high level marketing team that sells mid level bicycles.
  • 1 0
Okay great but what's it a throwback to?
  • 1 0
Nice enough to bring Shaun Palmer out of retirement maybe?
  • 1 0
Hmm..buy the bike and sell everything but the silver wheels and bar
  • 1 1
 Ruin a 29er with a 27 rear wheel. Stupid.
  • 1 0
 Patriot bike.
  • 1 0
A YT patriot bike would be black, red and orange.
  • 1 0
 @megatryn: black, red and gold
This would be the only bike on which the ugly Fox anniversary edition would be visually acceptable.
  • 1 0
 i like it.
