PRESS RELEASE: YT Industries

Designed to be fast, our new YT Tues AL shares the same geometry with the carbon TUES and therefore the same DNA Aaron Gwin and the YT MOB trust. The TUES AL is available in two colourways and sizes S to XXL, with a price of $2,699 USD.

(G)WINNER-DNA
First race – first place: Right at the first race of the World Cup season, Aaron Gwin took the top spot on the new TUES, proving the (G)winner-genes of the next level TUES generation.

The new TUES AL is born with the same racing DNA. While developing the new TUES, we mainly focused on the MOB's feedback from the toughest downhill tracks of the world. The result: refined kinematics as well as a modern geometry concept that lets riders choose their preferred reach on the new TUES AL.

FREERIDE ATTITUDE
Style meets confidence: the new TUES AL is a playful style merchant that just begs to be taken out on unreal monster drops and to shoot loose whips from the hips at Crankworx. The feedback from Rampage superstars Cam Zink and Andreu Lacondeguy allowed us to create a bike that will continue to push the limits of freeriding well into the future. And don't forget, Andreu won Rampage in 2014 on a TUES AL.

AL AESTHETICS
The TUES AL was made specifically for lovers of high-quality aluminum bikes. Yet the modern geometry and impressive component specification – which it shares with its carbon brothers – make it the first choice for many more. The elaborately designed frame sets new standards in aluminum craftmanship: the multi-butted, hydroformed tubes not only keep weight down and strength up, but also embody the character of a true Young Talent.

FRAME
While designing the new TUES AL, we paid particular attention to synchronizing every suspension element to work together as one: frame kinematics, hydraulic damping curves, and spring force. The Virtual 4 Link suspension system is based on a low leverage ratio – and it's a major factor in giving the TUES its superior characteristics. Amazing small bump compliance in the first part of the travel gives the next-gen TUES even more grip: it practically hugs the ground, holding lines even better than before.

A rapidly rising spring curve provides a lot of mid-stroke support: this creates more grip for turning and braking, and optimal use of travel on big jumps. Despite being very sensitive off top, the progressiveness and support gives the TUES the pop to get airborne easily – and helps to keep legs fresh during sprints, too. Without giving up any of the bottom-out reserves of the TUES, we have reduced the ending-stroke progression by 5%. It has made the rear a little bit plusher for a boost in comfort and control.

YT TAILOR MADE
The TUES AL is available in five sizes, ranging from S – XXL. The wider size selection ensures the perfect match to both body and style. With five sizes and a low seat tube across the next-gen TUES range, riders can choose between two or even three sizes depending on the preferred reach, from moderate to extra-long. It's like the bike is tailor-made for the rider. This allows prospective buyers to get a bike that suits their preference, not just their body: get a larger size for more stability or size down for something more playful.

SPECS
The FOX 40 Float Performance Elite fork and FOX VAN Performance shock pair up perfectly to form a high-performance and reliable suspension duo on the TUES AL. The EVOL airspring technology creates a buttersmooth fork that also features externally adjustable low speed compression and rebound. The FOX VAN Performance shock offers adjustable low speed compression and rebound as well as spring preload.

With 233 % of range and a weight of just 180 grams the e*thirteen cassette is the best possible foundation for your transmission. Quality: the largest sprocket is made of aluminum while the others are machined from a single billet of steel. The SRAM GX DH rear derailleur ensures quick and accurate shifting. It eliminates ghost shifting while reducing the shifting force. X-sync technology ensures optimal chain control. Made from 6066 aluminum, the Race Face Chester crank delivers robust, reliable performance at a low weight – a great choice for all your DH and bike park riding. The TRP Quadiem was developed in collaboration with Aaron Gwin, it is one of the most reliable and powerful brakes on the market.

"YT TuesAL Out Now".... meaning "out of stock now".
  • 72 7
Is it sad or funny when you see $2700 and think, man how can they make it so cheap?
  • 8 3
Yep - so imagine a frame-only option. Oh wait, it's not avail...
  • 8 0
@Rasterman: in my country 2700 usd is very expensive for now
  • 5 4
@Rasterman: it is not that much given today's bike prizes, but lower spec builds are getting more expensive year by year. Nice that they kept an alu version though, and the yellow/grey model is outstanding
  • 6 0
@Rasterman: no wonder why they are selling like hot cakes.
  • 3 1
and yepp had a look all out of stock and no frame only option...
  • 10 1
Seriously... I really like YT bikes. But it’s like if you don’t have the cash ready to drop the second they come out with a new bike, then you’re left waiting 4 months to get a new bike. Why don’t they have larger stock at product launch? Or just in general??? I wanted the new Capra, but a month after they came out I would have had to wait 4 months to get a new bike.
  • 10 0
I've never seen a size Large in stock. Ever.
  • 1 0
@Rasterman: It's not about how cheap they make them, but about how expensive they sell them instead...
  • 3 1
In their defence the bike was quite literally /just/ introduced...
Also, for 2700 bucks you could buy the complete, sell the bits you don't want and make a good chunk back.
As far as stock goes in N. America I can't really comment. The only thing that comes to mind is that the European market gets priority? Stock here seems to be pretty good from release on.
  • 17 1
$2700, they are basically dog pissing on the whole industry. 9k for some ugly ass bike that is 2 lbs lighter than this one.
  • 5 0
 @andydhteam:
If they offered a frame only option it would likely not be much cheaper than buying the whole base build. If you price a YT up you pretty much buy the components and get a frame for free.
If you factor in being able to sell on zero-hour components on the 2nd hand market then doing a buy and strip is better than a frame only option would be.
  • 4 0
@ORTOGONAL555: Anyone remember when Intense sold their downhill frames for close to $2k USD or more?

$3k USD for a "budget" downhill bike isn't too bad!
  • 4 0
 @elong801:

It's turning into the Thursday AM Supreme drop. Oops missed it again......
  • 2 0
Hmm, I just looked and only S in yellow/gray is indicated as sold out, all other size/colors are available by 11/21 if you order now
  • 1 0
@EastCoastDHer: 2k? Try over 3K. And that wasn't for carbon. 2K was like dealer cost .
  • 2 0
 @EastCoastDHer:
Yup paid $2300 for 2003 M1 frame!
  • 1 0
@elong801: this is how they keep it cheap.. hold no stock and buy batches when they've got firm orders. Bear in mind how long it takes a container load of frames and parts takes to get from China/Taiwan.
  • 72 3
 Good deal but...

Pinkbike. The craziest race of the season is this weekend and nothing on here.
If it was Rampage you would be all over it.
WHERE IS YOUR COVERAGE OF REDHILL HARDLINE?
  • 19 11
What a fucking joke. At least we got coverage of south africa's marathon's race. Get your shit together pinkbike and remember what made you.
  • 27 1
Redthrill Harshline Redpill Hardline Redbull Hardwire Redhill Hardpull
  • 7 1
Oooooor Redbull isn't allowing other media to cover it for a set time/forever since they want their own content only available through their site?
And all terms vary for different events - so just because Rampage is here doesn't mean Hardline has to be.

@Clarkeh: I honestly usually come for the downhill/freerid stuff. I don't give a rats tail about enduro or cross country.
No DH = Crap.
  • 48 3
Loving the metal framed bikes today. This looks great. I honestly can't understand why anyone would go for the carbon one over this.
  • 12 0
I don't get it either. I love my CF trail bike. It sheds a good deal of weight and provides some great stiffness where it's needed. But my aluminum DH bike is already relatively overbuilt (at a minor weight penalty) so I doubt you'd be able to eek much extra stiffness out of it, and the potential weight savings aren't as critical since it's still reasonably light.
  • 11 2
@big-red: Here's another question, does that stiffness make for a faster bike? Most two wheeled Motorsport would argue it doesn't.
  • 5 1
@jclnv: it helps a great deal when going balls to the wall. though If it is 100% stiff in every direction the bike will ride like a turd and youd feel every little bump. when a company just comes out and says NOW STIFFER it's mostly marketing. if they actually wanted to inform the customer as to what they did they would give you way more detail on the bikes compliance and explain where they built in flex to smooth out the ride. making a stiff bike is easy making one that flex just the right amount in the appropriate spots is a totally different game.
  • 7 6
Alloy all day, i think Carbon is just a trend that people try to pretend that is in, within no end? ALLOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • 2 0
Until you look really closely, this new frame looks surprisingly like a carbon one.
  • 2 0
Does weight even matter for a DH bike? Not like you have to climb. I'd think heavier would actually be faster going downhill, but I never took physics, so...
  • 4 0
@huntstyle: it's more about weight distribution. You want it as centered and low as possible. The number doesn't mean too much in DH.
  • 3 0
@colincolin: a heavier frame helps the suspension work better and feel more supple. it all comes down to the spring vs unsprung weight ratio. that's why orange let's you add weight to the frame and jack reading does the same thing to his nicoli
  • 30 0
Shut Up and take my IOU!!!!
  • 2 0
 lol Salute Truth, brother, truth.
  • 20 0
Let's see if they still find something to b!tc$ about :/
  • 18 0
....and it's gone. Availability is still an issue.

Otherwise, looks amazing. Not a single complaint about the updates, it's a well designed and great riding bike. Way easy to maintain now and even better looking than before. Probably ****ed on getting any replacement frame parts now though, for the previous iteration.

Any excuse for a new bike is a good one.
  • 8 2
Actually, I dislike the non-standard shock dimensions that they use. The stroke itself is impressive, however the options for shock replacement are limited.

What's the weight? 40 plus lbs?
  • 5 2
 @makripper: 37.5
  • 6 0
@fanatyk-bb: 10.5x3.5 shock is a standard length though for imperial? Fox makes the DHX2 in 10.5x3x5 aftermarket.
  • 2 0
@Joshsmiht: for what size? I didn't see it anywhere
  • 10 0
@Boardlife69: aluminium is the New carbon.
  • 1 2

  • 1 0

...is'nt that Bryan Regnier in those photos? Ace Hayden rides Giro flats and rocks a Giro Helmet....typo??
  • 5 0
yep I can tell by the tats
  • 8 1
People keep asking about the weight. The 2018 alloy Tues came out and had a nearly identical build other than it was equipped with RS suspension and this one is equipped with Fox. That one weighed 38.8 pounds and on their website they have this 2019 model coming in at 37.9 lbs. So 300 bucks more than last years but you do drop just shy of 1 pound, A better front fork, comparable rear shock as last years and a updated frame to match the changes that the new carbon version got as well. pretty skookum deal.

Why would an alloy bike NOT have a threaded BB?
  • 3 0
 Helps reduce cost
  • 2 0
@onemind123 is correct, cost savings. Even if it's $3 per frame. Any number times a large number is a large number
  • 1 0
@onemind123: Does it though. I'd imagine they would be machining the shell to tight tolerances for a press fit, surely machining a thread would be comparable?
  • 1 0
 @bman33:

So when I’ll happily pay $100 more for a threaded B.B, as would everybody else, are they really “saving” money??
  • 1 0
@rippersub: No argument there. I am a threaded BB guy myself. That said, I don't think company executive look at it that way.
  • 10 5
If a bike isn't "In Stock", it's not real.
Seriously, did 5 people in the US get to buy the Canyon Spectral?
I haven't had the money to buy it, but I've glanced at stock for that bike for months and not once has it been available to purchase.

I think the best thing that could happen with the YT is if Push Industries partners with them to be able to order the bike & ship the shock & fork to Push to be custom tuned to the rider before sending it out to the consumer. Then you'd have a bike that you could WIN on.
  • 12 0
I'd argue you could already win on this, with or without Push. Its the swordsman, not the sword...
  • 36 1
Just ride your bike and stop fiddling with your knobs
  • 2 0
@Twenty9Hardtail: or paying someone in a white coat to twiddle them for you.
  • 4 6
@Twenty9Hardtail: but what am I gonna do without 2lsc clicks less and 1 more hsc click on that flowy fast rocky slow tech blue/black diamdond trail coming up? I also need that click of high speed rebound to be offset one click of slow rebound and add 3 for the preload... How else am I supposed to win KOM???
  • 1 0
What is the point in pre custom tuning for those who have yet to test ride one and don't know about their optimal suspension kinematics? It's more than just height + weight = whatever setting.
  • 1 0
My point is that the dampers used in this model are the only thing that someone could argue limit it's abilities under advanced riders. I know lots of top level talent racers that can out ride a stock damper.
Sending the fork/shock off to Push turns it into what would is considered a $6k elite level race rig a few years ago. Darren at Push could explain better what this bike would ride like with a Push tune.

Those who took the base model Boxxer and tossed a $150 Avalanche cartridge in it would understand just how much difference a tuner getting their hands on it helps. I can't put it into words, but those who have ridden tuned bikes might be more eloquent about it.
  • 19 11

Dumb question but does the shock's spring rate change with size? I find it hard to believe someone riding the XXL needs the same spring rate as someone on the small or medium. Or would I need to immediately change the coil if I ordered this bike (I am 6'4" and 260lbs)?
  • 2 0
yep i'm almost 100% sure the spring rates go up with sizes. Smile
  • 2 0
Generally they will increase with size, but at our size (I’m 240lbs) it most likely will still be under sprung.
  • 2 1
Bout time we see a low-end DH rig without the BoXXeR RC up front. Fox 40 Performance is much better and I'm sure will drive many to chose this over others, I included. I hate the faff of coil forks and shocks. Need it a little softer burp some air out.
  • 3 0
You know I can’t get on with the entry level fox stuff. I’d take Boxxer rc then upgrade to a charger over performance 40s any day. Plus I think the 40s are too stiff. I like the little bit of flex in the Boxxer
  • 4 0
@filryan: agree, I absolutely hated my fox 40 performance elite
  • 17 12
 Looks like an e-bike
  • 2 0
 My first thought as well
  • 5 4
What is a rapidly rising spring rate?
Are you preferring to the progressive leverage rate?
It's not rapidly rising it's reducing in ratio.
But hey your correct about the frame being aluminum.
  • 2 0
@Sshredder, a rising rate is the same as a progressive leverage rate - the force required to move the rear wheel increases as it goes through its travel.
  • 1 0
Its so the plebs can understand, you dont need an engineering degree to buy a bike.
