Social Saturday, Attempt Number 2

We delve into the social media accounts from some of mountain biking's biggest names to see how they're kicking off the 2018 season.

Note: we had issues with some embeds not loading properly. Is it working for you as of Saturday February 10th?

Brendan Fairclough blowing up turns the only way he knows how in South Africa.

Cam Zink's been building this monster jump. He's hit it on the moto, now he's just got to send it on the mountain bike!

Gee Atherton is out training in California – oh, and nearly running down someone walking up the trail. Gee's Vulcan-like skills meant that he managed to avoid a collision though!

Bernard Kerr and Wyn Masters are still working out just how much they love their back wheels.

Is Danny Hart lost or is he just looking for that secret place some call 'shred'?

Yoann Barelli doing weight training with daughter Anna in Hawaii before the start of the EWS season.

Cecile Ravanel is taking after the 50to01 Crew and brushing up on her jibbing skills! Maybe this will be the key to success when she tries to take on the World Cup downhill series in 2018.

Loris Vergier is taking training to the next level and working out exactly where he can save some time – maybe it's in the turns...

Laurie Greenland and Tahnee Seagrave have been using the downtime to get some sun and air in New Zealand at McGazz Fest and La Poma in Spain.

Brandon Semenuk's 'warming up' is still miles better and more impressive than anyone else on a bike.

Olly Wilkins has got to be one of the most stylish riders out there. Will he racing this year? Either way, we want to see more of him.

After Vincent Tupin's debut Rampage appearance in 2017, you've got to wonder how he trains and who he rides with to get the skills for one of the biggest mountain bike events of the year. Well, here's the answer...

Woman's XC World Champion Jolanda Neff suffered some pretty horrendous injuries in a crash at a recent cyclocross race and will not be able to race at the first XC MTB World Cup of the season. Heal up soon Jolanda!

Nicholi Rogatkin has been getting some serious airtime in South Africa with the DarkFEST crew. And, Veronique Sandler's also been getting some airtime of her own whilst brushing up on her no hander skills.

Carson Storch stomps a massive 720 stepup at DarkFEST and Transition Bikes Muc-Off team look like they've been busy making an 80's music video!

Could have sworn I clicked PB but seem to have ended up at Vital?

It's a great idea, PB should make it a regular feature and give it a name that links it to sites like Facebook and Instagram.

 Straight up rip

Pinkbike’s missing that annoying ad page that always jumps in between you and the page you’re trying to get to tho
  • 21 1
@surfhard987: at least that ad page isn’t pretending to be anything other than an ad! Like say a review for example or your friend or everything except an advert.
  • 4 2
 Vitalmx was first i think

@metaam: Agreed. Even though people might downvote you many will still look at it.
Or at least look at the comments.

@Flowcheckers: westerners would cry foul if a chinese company steals an idea, but think pinkbikes rip off is fine?
  • 3 1
@Flowcheckers: My comment was full of sarcasm, due to this being a blatant rip off of Social Scoop. It seems to have flown over some heads. Oh well, neg props never hurt anyone.

Haha, anyone else noticed we made the front page on Vital

@Zuman: Yeah I'm totally ok with it. Vital's format sucks compared to PB, that's why hardly anybody comments on their posts.

And who says Gee isn’t a nice guy. Could’ve been bad for both.
  • 42 0
Yeah man, it could have been so easy to start going wild at the kid but it looked like Gee was more concerned he was alright. Top geezer.

Pushing up that particular trail is grounds for a tongue lashing. Gee handled it with grace and went easy on the young whippersnapper. Well done.

100% could have been must worse. My dad busted his collarbone a couple years back when he came around a corner to someone hiking up the trail.

Gee is a nice guy full stop. All the way from back in the days the way he negotiated contracts when he was easily the most high profile rider (as female racing didn't get the positive exposure as it is getting now) and refusing to go alone for the big deals. He's a top bloke.
  • 3 2
@vinay: Nepotism. And he's paying her back for teaching him how to ride when they were kids.

One last rainbow jersey for Gee before the end, this is my will.

@LessardBicycles: Just like with Rachel, if he's not up there with the top, he's either injured or nursing an injury. Considering he seems to be good right now, I expect him right in the mix again. I don't like to think in terms of absolute results but I do like to see him get results that reflect how good he really is again.

VitalMTB started producing raw video edits from World Cup DH races, a few months later Pinkbike started doing the same.

VitalMTB started adding suspension kinematic analysis information to their bike reviews, a few months later Pinkbike followed suit.

VitalMTB took an idea from one of it's sister websites, VitalMX, and started posting "Social Scoops" and now, a few months later, Pinkbike is doing the same.

When will Pinkbike start doing a bi-weekly industry insider podcast, test sessions, and create a gear-to-your-house subscription service?

But pinkbike is cool social media cause there are so many girls on here... said nobody ever. Nerdiest sausagefest version of social media ever, unless D & D have social media.

@Boardlife69: I am still in love with Tara Dakides, after all these years.

I feel like this is almost like a tabloid, but not quite. I want to believe that Pinkbike is better than this. But I'm getting old, and you gotta connect with the kids to get paid.....
  • 11 1
First all RC's weekly click bait, and now social media sellout. They should go all out and do fake news for the ebike industry: 'Trail steward says E- bikes actually good for trail access issues'
  • 15 0
Can't wait for the Pinkbike slide show.
  • 9 2
This is cool, just not very well formatted.

This is like the morning paper telling us what we missed on the 6 o'clock news...
  • 8 1
Gee was such a rad dude for being concerned to the kid more than himself
  • 5 0
Fuck this shit!!! I'm just not that nosey.
  • 6 1
Exactly. An article about what they found while creeping on peoples social accounts because, hey, other peoples lives are far more interesting than living our own, amIright!?

But...you're here, and the pros put this stuff online to be seen anyway. Nothing wrong with aggregating it. And besides, there was some legit news in there - brutal bad luck for Jolanda Neff.

Hah, the Eddie Masters video is 34 months old!

Something very weird going on with this page.

I forwarded Gee's video to Trek, and at least in their communication to me, they're not happy about it. at all..
They claim to be starting an 'internal' investigation into it.
Hopefully they do something about this, as it takes a size XXXL a*shole to not only run over a little kid(from making a mistake that new fricken riders learn to avoid no less), but to then think your move was so cool, you gotta post it on the internet to your minions

I cant see Gee Atherton´s and Nicholi Rogatkin`s posts.

Danny must be pretty good to be looking to "shred" on a road bike?
