@Mntneer: My point is that claimed advantages are not borne out in the data. It is true that having undergone puberty with higher levels of testosterone does produce bigger bones, muscle mass, etc, but it's also true that the drugs taken during transition have a pretty big affect as well. The fact that no sport is inundated with trans athletes dominating the competition (and, in fact, trans athletes across the board are indistinguishable in the data) is I think pretty telling. For some sources which make quantitatively rigorous these broader points, look at: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/310050064_Beyond_Fairness_The_Biology_of_Inclusion_for_Transgender_and_Intersex_Athletes https://www.researchgate.net/publication/325636355_Cardiometabolic_Changes_During_The_Hormonal_Transition_Of_A_Male-to-female_Athlete_A_Case_Study https://www.researchgate.net/publication/329873873_The_Fluidity_of_Gender_and_Implications_for_the_Biology_of_Inclusion_for_Transgender_and_Intersex_Athletes

@hamncheez: Whether it's middle of the pack or not is not really the point. The point is that fears of cis men transitioning in order to get better results are completely unfounded. If you look at a distribution of finishing times of a group of athletes, and you can't tell from that data who's a trans athlete and who's cis, what does it really matter? It's just a group of similarly-abled people competing.
