Trail Hunting

The fall season can have many meanings depending on your hobbies. Fall can mean relaxing drives looking at the colors billowing in the brisk breeze. To some it can mean the smell of a fire and pumpkin spice filling the living room. To others it may just be the trigger that lets them know winter is coming, and that it's time pull the skis or snowboards out from the dusty abyss that is their summer storage location.

To many fall means hunting season! Tagging and bagging the biggest deer, antelope, elk, etc. that they can get their barrel pointed at. The thrill of the hunt, time spent meandering through the woods, evenings spent with the hunting party doing whatever it is they do after a long day of hunting. Every hunter wants that trophy buck they can mount and put above the fireplace. Granted you have a fireplace and a significant other that is okay with this!

To mountain bikers, fall can mean cooler (sometimes more manageable) temperatures, the start of night rides under the light of the moon (and hopefully a headlamp!), and if you're lucky, the term "hero dirt" will be in your vocabulary for the remainder of the riding season.

Being both a hunter and a mountain biker I had the itch to combine the two. Now, with the season of riding dirt quickly winding down, I was in need of filling my tag for some good Gravity Fed trails (because we all know Gravity Fed trails taste way better than Pedal Fed trails!) and a healthy dose of hero dirt to keep me in fed during the snowy times. Stay tuned to find out if I can fill my tag or not!!

I got one! It may not be the biggest of Gravity Fed trails, but a filled tag is better than an empty tag!

So happy to see that the Sheridan, Wyoming area is getting some good trails built near town. Red Grade trail system is going to become a place to fill that Gravity Fed tag! With plans to make this area shuttle capable, it should be a great addition to the area!

If you would like more information on the trails and how you can assist:

Go and talk with Jordan at the Sheridan Bicycle Company if you need assistance while in the Sheridan area!

Now that my tag is filled and the riding season is over, it is time to start playing in the winter wonderland that will soon be upon us!

A big thanks to The Spoke Shop in Billings for helping me keep my weapon of choice ready to slay the trails!

Thank you Oneal for the support this season.

Thank you GoPro for helping me get the camera to shoot the video!

This video was shot entirely one afternoon after work. Luckily beat the rain and snow that arrived the following days (4+ inches of snow). Let me know what you think!
