Specialized’s SWAT Conceal Carry steerer tube tool is an elegant storage solution for minimalists, but one drawback of the system is that it’s not compatible with top cap bike computer mounts. Granite Design has introduced a simple, light, and affordable fix.

The Granite Design Scope Mount replaces the standard Conceal Carry top cap with an integrated mount, which pivots to the side for tool access just like the standard top cap does.

The mount is compatible with Garmin, Wahoo, and Bryton devices. It weighs 15g and will be available for $20.99 USD starting April 20th.

We shouldn't take innovations like these for granite

As a New Hampshire native I find these puns to be incredibly ig(neous)orant

It looks like a very gneiss product.
  • 2 1
But is it hard as rock to install?
  • 1 2
Will my Garmin stay on over rocky terrain?
  • 3 1
@TannerValhouli: if at first you don’t succeed, try again.

Hey @OneUpComponents - this, but for the EDC system please!
  • 6 0
Yup, then I will run an EDC again!
  • 8 1
Whats wrong with a stem spacer Garmin mount?
  • 4 2
@rustiegrizwold: Then it sticks out front and might be the first think to impact the ground.
  • 2 1
Agreed! I've got a K-Edge mount below my EDC top cap, but in order to pull out the EDC tool I have to remove the Garmin first.
  • 8 2
@PTyliszczak: True. That's what happened to me. Broke the mount and the back of the Garmin. Now I have to carry it in my pack. Out the front is for roadies.
  • 2 2
@PTyliszczak: what's wrong with o-rings on the bar? Doesn't look so pretty but the Garmin will just spin out of way in an impact

I may never understand the sacrificial gps mounting habits of most mountain bikers.
  • 4 2
I guess if your pockets are deep enough to buy a new device every time you break the mounting tab then I wouldn't understand it either.

This. 76 projects top tube mount is my go to, keeps it out of the way and is still easily viewable and accessible.

@kev-jones: The best. Based on having tried almost every other type of mount at least once (In order of best to less best: Bar Fly 4.0, Bar Fly, K-Edge - Gravity Cap, standard and flex mounts, Garmin, SRAM and some others I probably tossed after one ride).

@kev-jones: Just bought a couple after smashing my brand new 530 about 5 rides in.
  • 5 1
how do you guys ride, that this is a sacrificial mounting location? I have run similar off and on for years and have never lost a Garmin.
  • 1 0
@SprSonik: right? I've had plenty of savage cracked in the last five years with my Garmin and had no issues. I've broken the insert on my K-Edge but that's a quick easy replacement for a few bucks.

Pop up knife maybe. Self defense against hikers with knives..

Switch blade bar ends are the way forward.

Is it just me or does this look like it won't work at all. The mount swings far enough out of the way for the SWAT tool to come out but it looks like any of the computers would not move enough out of the way. Meaning you have to remove your computer every time you want to access the SWAT tool.
  • 4 0
Not just you. Came here to post this.
  • 4 0
Probably why they didn’t post a picture of the Garmin attached and removing the tool
  • 2 0
I don’t think it’s a big deal. When I have to use my swat tool, which is uncommon, removing the garmin is another 0.5s job. I think it’s clever, and more aesthetically appealing location to mount.
  • 7 0
Its clever enough, but steer tube looks so tall with it. Seems like the steer tube spacer mount or bar mount works just fine and is more low profile.
  • 3 0
Yeah the idea of smacking a chin or helmet chinbar is more prevalent with this tall stack. Maybe a Garmin is easier on the teeth than a top cap? lol
  • 2 0
Tried a Garmin Stem mount once, but did not liked the position which was to close to me. I will go with the cheap original Garmin mount, fixed with the more cheaper gummy straps and the bars and also keep my swat tool clean and simple...
  • 4 1
Run a discreet leash if you're worried about your Garmin flying off. I've been running my Garmin like this for days without any issues.
  • 8 4
Honestly, all this hassle and $ to avoid tossing a tool the size of a pack of gum in your jersey pocket? It escapes me.
  • 1 0
I mean, the bikes already come with it, so it's one less thing to worry about. This is pretty rad!
  • 1 0
 Cool product.
but why front out mount is roadie? I mean with front out mount computer doesn't stick out more than front wheel. When bike is upside down, then it's not the first thing looking at the ground as with stem mount ( depending on how much rise your handlebars have ) and it's quite comfortable to change pages/look at the route with front out mount.
  • 1 0
Your handlebars/bar components are almost guaranteed to hit something when you're crashing or bailing
  • 3 0
That just looks like it is waiting to break off and get lost on the side of a trail.
  • 3 0
Strange that Granite Designs made this for the Specialized tool and not their own similar one.
  • 1 0
I've been fine with an out in front mount for my little edge 130 for years...but I also use the Garmin plastic and o ring mounts, too... they're honestly probably better, but it's not sexy.
  • 1 0
The best garmin mount is called the LazyBone from Shapeways (3d printed to order). Pushes the garmin 20mm forward, that way the entire 130+ unit I have sits atop the stubby stem without overhang.
  • 3 0
Will my garmin randomly go flying it the top cap gets unlatched?
  • 1 0
Man I read the title first thing that came to mind was the mountain biker who got stabbed by the hiker!! Thought someone had found a way to sneak a pistol around LOL.
  • 2 0
 Most exposed computer mount possible...
  • 1 0
I rather bought Garmin watch and saved money for mounts, they look soo ugly on bike.
  • 2 0
 Actually kinda dope
  • 2 0
 Take my money!
  • 1 0
 HELL YES!!!
  • 1 0
 Tower of power!
  • 1 0
 This is pretty cool
  • 1 0
This is also a pretty tool
