Yeah the last lap was a great battle between Savilia and Haley. Just checked YouTube and the women's highlights aren't uploaded yet, hopefully they will be soon.
Yep, I really wanted there to be a women's race recap video as well. I'll keep an eye out though and add it in if one becomes available! Most of the coverage of this event is subscriber-only on FloBikes, so we kind of have to make do with what we get here outside the paywall.
The Flobikes coverage is just the absolute worst. I (foolishly) ponied up the cash and feel ripped off. Three times the price of everyone else, but comes with the bonus of advertisements. Terrible audio, though it didn't matter too much with the roadie announcer mixing up the riders. You'd think they'd toss someone on a laptop, "Hey, you wanna check the feed to make sure it's working? Nah, I'm sure the mikes are all on and not dropping out at all."
I signed up with Flobikes for worlds last year, they really managed to show advertisements during the top 10 men DH, so we missed probably half the riders... and they didn't even stream live!! I wrote them, cancelled the subscription and got my money back for the remaining 11 months - which I never wanted to sign up for at the beginning. Also most the other road/cx races are not available in the US. Absolute rubbish!
Hey it's official, there will be no XC Fantasy League. "XC" is no longer in the Fantasy drop down menu at the top of the home page. No more "coming soon" or previous years links
Another person here asking Pinkbike to set up the XC Fantasy league for the rest of the World Cup season. Really enjoyed it the last couple years and had a whole league planned with some friends.
We went and rode that course after the race yesterday. I've ridden all of that stuff before, but trying to do it all together gave me a new appreciation for how fit these dudes are. We were stopping and resting on some of the rock garden climbs (though we were all on all mountain bikes).
Okay it doesn't look like Flo bikes is going to upload the women's race because it was actually good - gotta justify that $150 paywall somehow! fml. I was all set to pay a la carte until I found out they wanted that kind of money up front and I had to listen to the doper Frankie. "Mushmushmush...Christoph blevinspecializzmushmush..."
It's too bad Flo bikes is trying to single-handedly kill interest in US XC racing by delivering a substandard product.
Anyway..
WTH Savilia. The two weeks before you were building a van and standing all on your feet all day pulling shots at sea otter. Shout out to the homegirl who does things the right way.
Recap, from what I can piece together: quite muddy, lots of crashes. Haley did her best Camille Balance impression out of the gate, big feature jumps, pissed how petropolis went, extremely motivated.
Savilia, world cup seasoned, bided her time, hanging around about 7th. She learned so much watching Mona and Caroline in the u23s.
Super Haley paid for her efforts, it was a long one at 1:40 ish after all. Back and forth last lap, she had nothing left at the end but was all smiles for Savilia. Love it. She knew this was a coming out party for her against a very strong domestic field.
These two along with Gwinnee are awesome all around riders and I'm stoked to see what they can do this year.
I really hate flo-bikes......I follow cx and they spoil all the races each season by putting the winner in the title/thumbnail caption! I told these idiots to stop or I will find them.
The fact that there is a Moosejaw in Arkansas makes me question whether that Simpsons reference is even about Saskatchewan. Just turned into a tough day for me.
I know production is hard (I do). And I know announcing is hard.
But.
I wish announcers wouldn't yell to try to convey excitement (Rob Warner gets a pass). Or if they're going to, that they have a mic set up that doesn't blow out the levels.
@Willikers: Right? Why is a roadie even commentating on a mountain bike race? “No support out here…” Duh, roadie haha! Seriously though, looked like a cool race and venue
