It looks like Specialized has a new lightweight full face helmet on the way, as seen in Instagram teaser posts from Specialized Enduro Team riders Charlie Murray and Sofia Wiedenroth.

The new helmet looks about as airy as anything on the market and significantly lighter than the existing Specialized Dissident full face helmet.

Interestingly, it looks as if the all EWS riders still wore the older Dissident at most of the EWS rounds so far except for Sofia Wiedenroth, who seems to have worn hers in La Thuile.

Today, Charlie Murray joined Sofia by sharing a photo of himself wearing the helmet on Instagram. Specialized clearly knows what it's doing when it comes to dropping hints before a launch.

From its appearance, we could probably ballpark it in the 700-800ish grams range, though Specialized could always surprise us. After all, their full carbon burly DH helmet weighs just over 1000g. With large vents, it seems well-suited to enduro, and we'll likely see all of Specialized's EWS racers adopt the new helmet at the next few races.

Specialized couldn't tell us anything specific about the helmet, but did offer this statement:

bigquotesAt Specialized we are constantly developing new and exciting products to meet all rider needs. Great products don’t only come from the lab as real world testing is always a big part of our development process, we have the advantage of top level athletes on our long list of sponsored riders and from time to time those pre-production products make there way onto the internet. Let’s be honest secrets are hard to come by these days. You never can tell when or what products we are testing out in the wild will make it to the consumer market, what you can be sure of is when a new product is ready for release the public will know.Specialized

We'll keep you tuned on any updates when we know more.

Hope they make kids edition for toddlers shredding the carbon Hotwalk.
  • 5 0
 that'd be the s-works version
  • 1 2
@SendyNinja: The most expensive stickers in the world, (very closely followed by Santa Cruz). If that helmet was covered with s-works stickers it would totally be worth $2000.
  • 5 0
@mr-moose: I used to think this too, then I got a Specialized Enduro as a theft replacement through insurance when my commencal was stolen, my opinion has changed.

Specialized stuff is not cheap but damn it is good.
I am actively considering my next bike and Specialized is in contention for sure.

Yup if you go for the top of the range sworks it is silly prices but if you look spec for spec they are fairly reasonable IMO

Dig the hole for a random rock to fly through and get me to a dentist so I can get quality advice on my next helmet and bike upgrade.
  • 62 8
that‘s what universal healthcare is for. oh wait a minute, you‘re american, you poor poor thing…
  • 8 3
If you want total protection against any kind of flying debris just get a moto helmet with goggles. Lightweight fullface helmets are not for you.
  • 6 1
@Ttimer: There are plenty of full face mtb-specific helmets out there which don't have huge holes for debris to fly through. Look at the D3 and D4.
I don't think debris flying is much of an issue though, I don't remember ever getting hit in the face by a rock while riding.
  • 2 1
It’s not a moto helmet. Wait…are you an aggressive e-biker?
  • 18 0
Still I remember the 1st generation DEVIANT!! With the skulls design, most cool helmet i've seen...
  • 13 0
The Deviant was way ahead of it's time in terms of weight and actually venting. Hope theses are as good
  • 4 0
I still have my Deviant in the Darren Berrecloth Design, in my Opinion it is the best looking helmet till now
  • 1 0
Loved my carbonDeviant. It was just about the only full face that fit on my big head, it was cool, looked cool and nice and light as well.
  • 1 0
I had that one and got it on closeout and my kid sold it without telling me! The humanity!

Oh 100%, you know these shots are too clean to be accidental leaks.
  • 1 0
 @thepwnstar39: No, not 100%, Specialized :p
  • 7 0
I just want another option to fit my fat alien oval head, don't really care who makes it at this point!
  • 3 0
Me too! This might be a winner though, Specialized road helmets have always fitted my xenobonce really well.
  • 5 0
@Woody25: I'm in the xenomorph club too. even when I've got nothing on my head I look like I'm wearing a aero helmet. Spec, ixs and giro tend to work ok for me.
  • 2 0
@subwaypanda: I have the Endura MT500 full face at the moment which works pretty well. It pinches slightly at the back when I put it on, but I don't notice that when actually riding.
  • 2 0
@Woody25: getting that thing on my head takes so long, but its really roomy inside
  • 3 0
100%! Spec Ambush fits me SO well, I can only hope hope this is roughly the same shape...
  • 2 0
@T4THH: I know! It's a shame they covered the cheek pads in sandpaper.
  • 1 0
@Woody25: but, when it's on, there's no other helmet I'd rather be wearing. Suuuper comfy once it's on my head and crazy light. good peripheral vision too strangely
  • 2 0
Specialized made one of these lightweight full faces a few years back. I stacked it in one and broke my jaw. The lower part of the helmet just disintegrated on impact. Difficult to say if a 'proper' full face would have prevented the break, my thinking has always been it probably would have.
  • 2 0
I look at that large opening in the chin piece and think that could catch the ground in a bad crash and cause a worse injury. Downhill skiers stopped using chin bars a long time ago and that was the reason they cited. I think a helmet should be designed to slide on impact as much as possible.
  • 3 0
Whats the best helmet in this class? Ive got a proframe, which was one of the first of its type, and im curious how the newer designs compare
  • 27 0
The best one is the one that fits your head.
  • 2 0
@dsut4392: hear hear, previous to a proframe I used giro switchblade. My head is between the sizes. Using the smaller one is so uncomfortable, while the bigger one is so wobbly, even with the dial turned all the way small. Ended up wearing a beanie inside the switchblade.
  • 1 1
Pretty sure the Proframe and TLD stage are still the top dogs
  • 2 0
@dsut4392: I wish that was much better understood. So man buy the helmet they heard was best even though it may be ill fitting.
  • 1 0
Don't count out the Smith Mainline. But like other have said, what fits your head is the best helmet. Smith helmets fit me really well and even though I like the features and look of Fox, they just don't sit right on top of my noggin.
  • 1 0
@dsut4392: absolutely couldnt agree more. That said, i dont have the money to buy 6 different helmets to see which one fits. If i can narrow it down by features and other user reviews, that makes it alot easier. I know i might have to send it back if it doesnt fit right, but its easier with 2 or 3 contenders than 6 or 7
  • 1 0
@Torbo24: brick and mortar shop doesn't sound so bad now, does it?

I don't have that much money either. I do try out helmet at the shops, or my friends helmets.
  • 1 0
@rifu: yes indeed. The shops around me carry giro and bontrager mostly. Im actually in the market for a new half shell, and havent loved anything ive tried on so far. Prolly gonna wing it and try a speedframe, since the proframe has worked out good for me.
  • 3 0
Still rather stick with a standard full face. I've raced enduro in my D3 and it's been fine. More protection/coverage and the weight/ventilation doesn't bother me.
  • 2 1
Yeah I'll sweat as much as I need to to protect my face and head
  • 4 0
I hope it’s less expensive than the competition
  • 30 7
That would be a first for Specialized.
  • 12 1
@e-fro: True we do make expensive stuff but have you seen the tire prices?
  • 1 0
That will happen when pigs fly!
  • 5 0
@e-fro: Aren't their tires very reasonably priced?
  • 4 0
@e-fro: Shoes and knee pads are top of the line and way cheaper than the competition.
  • 4 0
I mean, the way specialized bikes work for the most part is you pay a LOT, but you do get good performance. The stumpy, stumpy, evo, and enduro all get rave reviews, the XC bikes are phenomenally light and perform really well too…
  • 5 0
@MaplePanda: @MaplePanda: I don't think Specialized bike prices are that out of line with the competition. Their Expert builds are especially well priced for what they are. The 2021 Stumpjumper Evo was $4900 with fancy carbon frame, Performance Elite Fox suspension, Code RS brakes, X01 drivetrain, etc. Very solid build for the money.
  • 4 1
Now that is a great looking designed FF helmet.
  • 3 0
Someone has been lurking on the Vital forums again
  • 1 0
Now please do a removable chinbar one. Actually, never mind. Bell Super and Giro Switchblade are expensive enough here in Brazil, a Spesh one would probably be even pricier
  • 3 0
Who needs a paywall when we will read paid advertising like this for free?
