Update: The Ever Given is Free, But Experts Say Catching Up May Take Time

She floats!

The Suez Canal ship saga that captivated social media and stymied global trade seems to be ending, though the shipping backlog will likely continue to affect bike part lead times.

The Ever Given was finally freed after six days of dredging and tugging. While the canal will soon be reopened (after it passes a safety inspection), experts estimate that it may take at least 10 days to clear the traffic jam on either side of the thoroughfare, according to the Associated Press release.

Canyon Bikes said last week that there are several Canyon shipments trapped in the bottleneck (including on the Ever Given) and mentioned the ripple effect that will likely occur as a result of the hundreds of ships that are now behind schedule. In the context of the COVID-induced bike parts shortage, companies that have been assembling and shipping bikes as soon as the parts are delivered will suffer from the sudden halt to shipments.

Nonetheless, things are looking up again for those patiently waiting for bikes as the fragile supply chain is reassembled.

 Thanks for nothing Slow Joe, Trump would have sent the marine core of engineers to fix that in minutes not days, butthole.

 @ReeferSouthrland: Who's Trump?

 @ReeferSouthrland: First, I think you mean Army Corp of Engineers.
Second, if Trump had his tiny baby hands in it, it would have capsized.

 Now that ship with all the bikes is going to fall off the edge of the flat earth or some sh*t.

We all should have flown to the middle east swam out and climbed up the side to get a bike while it was still grounded.

Would've been the easier option compared to hunting one down one locally.

 @dolores: cool solution if you have the vast reserves of time and cash to bankroll such an operation. Less than feasible for most people though I guess.

 Don't worry, I'm sure someone's bike will just fall into the ocean. Container loss wreckords being broken this year.

What was I even thinking. Or smoking...I did get a pretty nice slingshot a HUNTING slingshot. I became the long distance terror of every skunk in the canyon behind our building!

 It would be great to see more pinkbike updates on actual news and political stuff, just to make things interesting and get some good debate going.
  • 23 0
 @DoubleCrownAddict: nice try buddy
  • 20 1
 @DoubleCrownAddict: presumably you're just trolling, but if anyone did sincerely want politics content on this website the are a few factors I'd want them to consider:
1. There are plenty of political news sites already
2. The PB community is international and most of us are not going to care about the politics of any particular country
3. The field of politics exists to make space for people to enjoy the good things in life. It's a means, not an end. Mountain biking is one of those good things, and it relates to others: health, the outdoors, spending time with friends and family. The fact that so many of us - from around the world and with a variety of perspectives - can relate to each other over this sport we love is beautiful and it stands as a silent witness to the proper priority of politics. Introducing political content on here would divide us and we'd lose all that.
  • 6 0
 @DoubleCrownAddict: nope thank you very much, there's way too many divisive social media-news sites out there already.
A news section that has pinkbike readers as a target group, combined with the popularity contest that up and downvotes is, well I see no way in what that could hurt society at all.

 I can barely container my joy at this news. This has really floated my spirits during what has been a pretty ship week so far, I got in trouble for being late to work because I couldn’t make the car-go, and I had someone barge in while I was having a tug later that day. I’ve been hoping to sea this headline for days, it feels like the best news you guys have ever given me.

  • 2 4
 @tiagomano: care to elaborate?
  • 5 1
 @seismicninja: muchhhhhhhh pricier used bikes. like... much much pricier.
  • 5 2
 @TylerG96: True. But the benefit of used is you get to pick and choose til you find the right one. Even in the middle of the Covid tax, I still come across great deals. And you have the advantage of negotiating and bartering. New bikes are just plain overpriced and lose their value too quickly for my taste. I don't see it as affecting me since I am perfectly happy searching for that sweet deal and I always find it no matter what the market is like. Plus I don't have to wait months and months for a new bike.
  • 2 0
 @seismicninja: still tiakes time to find the right one though, even now with the lack of new bikes more will go used. i sold my SC for 2k more than i would have two years ago, and a 6 year old remedy for 1k more than i would have sold it for two years ago. great times to be selling bikes, the demand is high which means the price goes high too
