Yoann Barelli and Devinci announced today that the French Sea to Sky rider will be partnering with the Canadian brand going forward.

Yoann started his riding career as a professional enduro and downhill racer, but has gradually transitioned from racing to self-expression, creativity, and media creation. The outgoing rider seems to have found ways to combine all his passions, with social media as a major outlet alongside his passions for riding itself, coaching, and environmentalism. He started Into the Gnar to run short-term and long-term coaching programs to help riders reach their goals. He also started the Tour de Gnar, a somewhat grassroots yet renowned freeride event during which riders are invited to spend a summer day tackling all the gnarliest features in the Sea to Sky zone, one of the burliest riding destinations in the world.

Mountain biking also aligns nicely with Yoann's interest in sustainability, and teaming up with Devinci will help support that. Devinci has been working on refining its aluminum manufacturing, resulting in lower emissions, and Yoann will be riding bikes made in Canada from Canadian raw materials.

bigquotesDevinci's commitment to reducing its environmental footprint by making bikes in Quebec resonates deeply with me. Preserving our natural playgrounds is a shared passion. And as a francophone company, Devinci's connection to my French roots adds a special dimension to this journey. I'm super pumped to be part of the family and honored to ride the Chainsaw, a bike with a strong meaning and heritage to many riders and me. Joining Devinci is more than sponsorship, it's a meaningful connection Smile Yoann Barelli

As a quick editorial note from Alicia, Yoann finishing his official business announcement with a typographic emoji smiley face, just, makes so much sense. He's Yoann Barelli. He can be both professional and highly personal at the same time, the exact attitude that's drawn the wildman down gnarly slabs and into the freeride edits. We love to see it.

We at Pinkbike wish both Yoann and Devinci all the best in this new partnership, and we look forward to seeing what comes next. We can be sure it will be worth watching.

End of the road for Zink?

@shredddr: No, I think they are reducing their sponsorships in the racing end of the business if I heard correctly.

You turned a gnarly situation into a nice landing, buddy! The AK/Oaxaca crew has been having fun decoding the baguette and so it's Devinci for the win. Congratulations! Full gas into the future!

Sept 16th : Devinci dropped EDR world series. www.pinkbike.com/news/devinci-global-racing-steps-away-from-enduro-racing.html
Oct 4th : Yoan Barelli signs with Devinci

More exposure, cheaper price!

I have no data to back this up but I feel like the return on investment for sponsoring riders like Yoan, Steve, Remi, etc might be much better than sponsoring a race team.
  • 6 4
@WalrusRider: Oh I'm sure. You've got some of the most well known riders who almost exclusively do top notch content creation who you basically just need to give a few frames to, versus lesser known riders in a sport with almost no content at all - especially on race day - who you have to fly around the world and hire a whole team to support and give even more bikes to.
  • 6 0
@emarquar: i'm pretty sure Yoann gets more than a few frames (or at least I hope he does!)
  • 4 0
@gtill9000: He got way more than that ($$$ not just bikes) at GG and I'm sure he is now, as well.
  • 2 0
@gtill9000: Oh I'm largely ignoring salaries and whatnot because there's just no transparency around any of that stuff. But that's still in line with my point that concentrating equipment, salary, and travel expenses with a single local rider vs a whole team traveling around the world is a huge savings, even if you pay a rider a crapton.
  • 1 0
@WalrusRider: I think that’s true - but I wonder how quickly it drops off after guys like this.
  • 6 0
@WalrusRider: but let's not forget Yohan is there and we know him thanks to his results in races.
I think for long term visibility both are important. Even if it makes plenty of sense right now with a short term vision.
  • 1 4
obviously this isn't the fault of Yoann, but the room to bring him on is only available because more dollars or opportunites to make any are getting pulled from racing. taking food from the table that fed him and helped him grow.
  • 1 0
@captaindingus: This isn’t necessarily true. Without looking at Devinci’s books, it’s not possible to rule out that they *could* have continued to sponsor at team, but simply chose not to.
  • 1 1
@fautquecaswing: It was a different era, an era where post-race highlights were enough. EDR is simply non existent in the media these days, they have near zero exposure. The same will happen to dh, fat guys watching eurosport ere not the consumer target for bike brands.
EDR in current format has almost zero value for bike brands compared to a few people doing rad stuff in social media. Racing is dead.
  • 24 0
Good fit and stuck to his principles. A+
  • 16 0
Fuck yeah, Yoann! Great match! Enjoy the ride.
  • 14 0
Cam, Steve, Yoann! Awesome team. Like the modern day Fro riders!
  • 14 2
congrats to the first person to call this back when devinci posted a baguette in that holder.
  • 11 0
Also just in, rumor has it he and Dak are battling it out for shampoo sponsorship.

I was in Whistler last year and saw Yoann repeatedly. Appeared he was a mountain guide or instructor. It really brought to reality the dynamic of trying to make a living as a content creator - he still needed a 9-to-5. One time he was with a group of 4 or so tourists (like me) and was putting air in 1 of his shocks for him.......Smile visible for miles. I love the guy and only wish I could be 1/4 as happy with 1/10th the skill.
  • 11 0
He runs a company that offers private/group instruction called Into the Gnar.
  • 7 0
If my 9 to 5 to keep the lights on was guiding rides in Whistler... I wouldnt have shit all to complain about ever again haha
  • 2 0
 @KDix85: agreed. fully, completely.
  • 1 0
@KDix85: oh you are so wrong... just look at the people there Big Grin A lot of obnoxious asshats Big Grin
  • 9 0
One of the few companies in the world that is fluent in "Yoann", just a gnarly version of French!
  • 7 0
Très cool, félicitations à Devinci d'avoir repêché Yoan... qui est l'une des personnes marquantes dans l'industrie du vélo grâce à ses performances, mais surtout à son attitude !
  • 6 0
Big fan of Devinci and Yoann. Met him at Creekside base in August. Asked me how my day was going, etc. He was wearing his trademark smile. Awesome brand ambassador and all around cool guy. Congratulations to Yoann and Devinci!
  • 5 0
Nice move from Devinci, Yoann has very good content and his bike skills are insane. That Chainsaw looks very very good and the price is on point. The only problem is that in Europe I don't see many Devinci dealers. I would love to try that bike.
  • 1 0
Agreed. Looks like an awesome bike. I hope they offer a couple enduro builds with higher-end components.
  • 8 0
The pure joy that Yoann brings to riding has made me a big fan. Congrats to Devinci and Yoann.

An awesome rider and an awesome brand!
  • 4 0
Never met hm but he seems like such a cool dude. Definitely one of my favorite riders out there. Stoked to see him land with a great brand.

Sucks to see Guerilla Gravity going away still!

Go together like Peanut Butter and Jelly.
  • 3 0
By peanut butter and jelly, I assume you mean baguette and brie.
  • 5 0
This is the best new of the whole week! Congrats Yoann!!!!
  • 3 0
The marketing dollars are definitely working because this news makes me want to buy a Chainsaw frame to build up even more so than I already did! Congrats, Yoann!
  • 5 1
Did anyone else read his quote with a French accent? Smile
  • 21 1
I would say yes, but it doesn't count Smile
  • 3 0
so happy for him, seems like such a good natured guy and he deserves all the rewards!!
  • 2 0
Nice on Yoann! You deserve it! I love your massive smile and positive energy anytime I see you on the trail whether you're shredding or coaching! Stoked for you!!
  • 4 0
 Yoann is a real one.
  • 5 2
 What about the grim donnut?
  • 4 0
 Congrats Yo!
  • 5 1
 Yeah!!! No ext shock?
  • 33 0
Devinci bikes use different shock mounts and lengths than GG and I simply didn't get a EXT in time. And now I can say that the Chainsaw works amazingly well straight out of the box Smile
  • 2 0
@yoannbarelli: congrats man! Would love to see an overview of the new rig and how you set it up..
  • 3 0
Great! Let's hope the others at GG will also get a nice new employer.
  • 6 6
Devinci is probably the most underrated brand on the planet. Mass manufacturer, produced in Canada with Canadian materials, for less then your taiwanese trek........ it makes no sense how they do it!
  • 2 0
Awesome stuff, Yoann is one in a million, a brilliant rider and sensei of stoke.
  • 3 0
Man marketing works! I now want a new Chainsaw.
  • 1 0
Such a vibe. Alicia back writing in her wonderful engaging style; yoanne on a dream bike/rider sponsorship. The world looks better all a sudden! :-)

  • 2 0
Wooooo super stoked to see it!
  • 1 0
Very strong quote. Love this guy, wild and crazy and super professional a the same time. Great sign by Devinci.
  • 2 0
Ce serait trop bien si Devinci pouvait revenir en France.
  • 2 0
So that's was the reason why they had to close their EWS/EDR team…
  • 4 0
Yoann Will be much cheaper than running multiple riders and moving them around the world with mechanics etc - EDR provides no exposure either so it makes zero sense to be involved in it.
  • 7 5
Finally no more Guerilla Gravity content
  • 1 0
Why? GG has great bikes. GG was a great company and pioneered some bike frame production tech.
  • 1 0
Congratulations on the great partnership! Now, we want some EXT on those Devincis!
  • 2 0
 Félicitations!
  • 2 0
 HELL YES!!!
  • 2 0
 Ow hell yeah!
  • 2 1
Did Devinci just let go it’s entire EDR race team?
  • 1 0
 Fair swap
  • 2 1
I can see potential for Yoann to help Devinci expand in Europe
  • 2 0
 Good stuff

"but has gradually transitioned from racing to self-expression"

Let the rumors begin. Oh wait. Congrats Yoann!
  • 3 5
A lot of greenwashing in one post.
  • 1 2
I like Yoann content and riding, but yeah, I agree. But I cannot blame him, GG pooped itself, he needs a replacement fast as life in Squamish is not getting cheaper every day
