The film, which has been receiving rave reviews from audiences at exclusive premiere events worldwide, features a mix of Anthill's signature cinematography and soundtrack with race action and a massive archive of footage from all the filmmakers Stevie worked with over his career.

bigquotesAnthill did a truly amazing job of capturing who Stevie was and how he lived his life. For me, watching Long Live Chainsaw was emotional - it made me laugh and cry.  Stevie was my idol growing up and became a friend after I got sponsored with Red Bull. He was a one of a kind human that will forever motivate and influence me on and off the bike. Long Live Chainsaw!Finn Iles, Canadian National DH Champion

The fact that he made all of the dreams come true from his mom shuttling him from the very beginning is the most amazing thing.

That segment was a really good one in an already amazing film.

Watched the Bristol premiere last week. Room full of men and women weeping and wooping!! It's a genuinely brilliant film. Such a top guy and such a sad story, but told so well and with some of the absolute best racing, with Warner's commentary, making for a great blend of thrills and emotion. Bl**dy good work all involved.

That clip from his early days, which was an absolutely epic scene, had me balling up right out of the gate. Humble beginnings indeed. Truly an extraordinary and inspiring rise to the top of the game. He really made an impact. I hope his family and friends find solace in this immortality.

Went to a screening on Saturday, pretty surreal to be in a theatre full of mountain bikers and not a dry eye in the house.
  • 5 0
Yep same thing here. Such a great story.

The comment section may not show it over the last ten years, but we do in fact have feelings. Emotional draw cards, like new standards, really bring it out of us. Biker or not, this film will bring on the waterworks.
  • 12 3
@Waldon83: I didn't used to have feelings. But now I have two little girls at home, and now I have lots of feelings. And the weirdest things make me feel feelings.

I'll be watching this soon, and I'm sure I'll have lots of feelings.

Fun Fact: the last time I really cried was from watching a video that was posted in Movies for your Monday. Thanks PB.

@timtoldnes: Same here, since these two tiny brats came along... I'm screwed, my wife's gonna make fun of me again

We screened it in a theater in Shawinigan, QC last saturday the 4th for our trail building organisation. 85 mountain bikers fully emotional. It was priceless! Thanks to Anthill films and Kerri-Ann for the opportunity

 Beautiful
  • 2 0
@timtoldnes: One kiddo so far here, couldn't agree more! At the end of the trailer where Stevie's mom is talking about how much she misses him...man. Even just typing it put's a lump in my throat! I'm sure the doc is going to demo me.

So surreal to see clips of Jordie in Chainsaw's documentary. Maybe we will get a jordie doc in a few years? These men lived life on the razor's edge. And we were blessed to be able to witness it.
  • 2 0
I agree! I was wondering if there would be a jordie shout out at the end..

So stoked! Just purchased on Amazon Prime to watch this tonight along with a cold one.

Steve showed up to the Race the Ranch DH race in Kamloops sometime around 2009-2010. He was still riding for Cove Bikes and riding so fast. It was a treat to see. Such a nice kid.

I remember it was in 2014-2015, I was in Nanaimo on my way to the trail to do some riding. I see this little Toyota drive pass me on the highway. It was Steve. He turned his head as he passed, gave me a wave and a smile and kept going. Didn't know me from anyone but saw that I had a bike on the back. I thought that was nice.

After I learned of his passing, I went out and bought a plain white t-shirt and got my daughter to draw a chainsaw on it. I wrote #longlivechainsaw on the back. The plan was to wear it in the next enduro race. A friend got wind of it and got a bunch of the shirts printed and our whole crew wore them at that race. I still have the shirt, unwashed and still with the dirt from the race on it.

Those are my Steve Smith stories. His death really affected me. Still does.

@anthill is there a particular platform through which the foundation makes the best margin? I'd rather support a channel that puts the most $ back into Stevie's legacy than covering fees.
  • 5 0
The prices look adjusted per platform to cover fees and ensure the same money goes to the foundation. I went with Vimeo because its a very focused platform and I can only imagine what amazon and itunes fees are. If anything, snag the cheapest platform and put some extra dollars directly into the foundation.
  • 6 0
Would be nice to have access some memorial merch ( shirts and stickers) to support the foundation.
  • 1 0
 Agreed big time on this
  • 3 0
Great look into his scene & how it punched everyone in the mtb fam.. That "volcanic eruption" rippled to my cubicle that day as if we raced on the same team. Nobody around me even knew DH WC even existed. I never wanted to quit & go ride more in my life. Thank u all that made the film happen, for highlighting a humble hero & to Moms like Ms. Smith growing good hard people all over.

So hyped to see this, I've been rewatching some of his clips recently. What a legend.
  • 15 0
Thanks for supporting. Excited to hear what everyone thinks of the film!

@anthill: Dont even have to watch it to know its one of the best youve ever done.
  • 1 0
@anthill: would be great if we can purchase ...
  • 3 0
tried to purchase it from Google Play. Did not work. Tried iTunes Store. Only showed the Needles podcast about it. Could it be that it only works in North America but not in Europe?
  • 2 0
Watched it on play easily in Ireland
  • 1 0
 Vimeo worked fine for me!
  • 2 0
I am trying to buy this film, but not one of the streaming sites has it available in CANADA? A story about a Canadian MTN biker, and its all geoblocked? Has anyone found one of the streaming sites that allows a Canadian purchase? So frustrating.
  • 6 0
looks like video is not available on Prime video, canada
  • 1 0
Or from Google. I want them to have my money and really want to watch, but I never use those other platforms.

I usually use YouTube to rent/buy movies, which makes it really easy. Sad face. Frown
  • 1 0
DERP. Looks like the link above, somehow makes it appear to not be available in Canada from Google.

Just went to the Play store and searched again and was able to purchase. Smile
  • 1 0
@Canadmos: yeah, I'm aware but I'd prefer to stream it on my firestick. Can't cast google phone on firestick. First world problem...
  • 4 0
Please put this on DVD for those of us that don't have digital access to watch movies etc. I'd happily buy the DVD/Blu-Ray of this.
  • 1 1
That's a LOT of money for a film that is not taking in profits. Do you not have access due to internet speeds?

If you buy from Vimeo you can straight up download the ~3gb hd movie overnight if your internet is slow. And more importantly store the file on any hard drive/flash drive you want.

Sadly physical copies are so expensive and wasteful many smaller games and movies won't be doing them ever again.
  • 2 0
@lepigpen: DVD's cost hardly anything to make these days. A limited run for something like this would be fine and more than profitable, similar to what they do with smaller Indie games. I'd be more than happy to pay a high price to actually own this on DVD/Blu-Ray rather than download or rent a digital copy from somewhere.
  • 2 0
@anthill Any plans for a DVD/Blu-Ray release of this?
  • 2 0
Watched it tonight and had me in tears. Stevie was such a likeable and relatable character on and off the bike. You knew that you were always in for a balls to the wall race run out of the gate. As a proud Canadian now living in the UK I always cheered him on. Great tribute @antillfilms. Thank you. #longlivechainsaw

Watched via Prime in UK and works perfectly.
It’s just a wonderful film showing what ah amazing human being and athlete Stevie was.
When he wins the overall and his mum says to his friend “f*ck you I’M his biggest fan” it’s just so perfect.

Watched this at the premiere in Bristol, UK last week. Such a good film, I was expecting it to be a tough watch but the Anthill guys have done a great job of celebrating his life and also showing how his legacy has continued to inspire the next generation. The section at the end with the guys shredding is so good, great way to finish the movie !
  • 2 0
anyone have luck purchasing via Pime while living in Canada? I don't have any of the other platforms/accounts but it wouldn't let me purchase it as a Canadian (despite my living on the same rock as Stevie did).
  • 2 0
It's a gooder even though it gets a little dusty while watching. Watched it in sooke with a surprisingly packed (for sooke) crowd. Nice work @anthill and it'll be great to see what comes from it.

I think I will cry when I watch this. I loved him so much, his part in the Collective film hit me so hard. And than he died. I can't emagine how the people closest to him feel. This man is a legend an inspired so many people I'm sure.
  • 1 0
Easiest no brainer purchase ever. Awesome depiction of Stevie and his lust for the sport and life in general. I watched his "Follow Me" segment with Gee 1000 times when I bought my first "expensive" bike the OG Devinci Troy. The huge huck to bottom out on that downhill floater followed by Stevie's chuckle always made me smile.
  • 1 0
Last bike movie I bought was Motive by the coastal crew, and I cried in that because he wasn't in it but you realise in every segment there's a different animal watching over the riders, with them but not with them. It was quite poignant how the did that. And the whole theme of how they did the movie, about friendship essentially. Matt Hunter and Matty Miles bit with The Rural Alberta Advantage playing, that's the bit that gets me every time. I can't watch that film and not think about how Stevie's not in it, but he's in it, the whole film is about him.

The brightest stars are the first to go out. I'll be watching this movie next saturday. Empty house, a couple of cold ones and a wee drum. I'm expecting waterworks as the trailer already got me a bit emotional. We are so lucky to have been able to see him racing. You are missed. You'll never be forgotten. Thank you.
  • 1 0
I was at fort William after he passed. The ghost run they did was unbelievable! Never heard Nevis range so quiet. When the crowd erupted when he would have been in the finish area it was such a powerful moment and I’m not afraid to say that I was crying, glad to say I was there and to see his good friend Greg Minnaar take the win just made it even more emotional.

He died doing what he loved, he was living the dream! It’s so sad that he had to go so suddenly, he was so stoked on riding! Really well done story telling giving others perspective on how he developed in to one of the most talented DH mountain bikers in the world.
  • 1 0
Stevie truly embodied the dream of a well spent life having fun on bikes. Anthill Films / The Collective brought that dream to the living rooms of people around the world. Damn who has been cutting onions in here!

We grow a mustache in November for Movember, I think in May we should grow one for Stevie to remember to live life to the fullest and just go ride your damn bike and have fun

Apple TV really fucked over the organizations who booked premiere events. Was told the release date was mid December, booked the theatre, put down a deposit, then Apple turns around and moves it up a week. Fuckers Looking forward to our event though, sounds like Anthill did a good job.
