Tech Briefing: 2019 Bikes, Suspension, Wheels & More - December 2018
YES! There is a large appetite for high spec aluminium bikes! For affordability that is, not just boutique brands. Eg aluminium frame (cheaper than carbon) with a Fox X2 shock and Fox 36s (or Rock Shox equivalents). Carbon is great I’m sure, but the majority of functionality is in the geometry and shock/fork quality. We crave that but ain’t all teeth-checkers ;-) please brands, offer full range of specs across both materials

Higenamine & Oxilofrine: What Are the Banned Substances that Jared Graves & Richie Rude Tested Positive For?
@Mntneer: EXACTLY! In other sports, especially Tour de France, you find out the whole industry knew everything all along. But there’s a huge disincentive to blow the whistle if you’re all making money off it. As ever, just refer to Bill Burr. They’re not going to turn in their yachts

True. Notice the golf clubs in the same shot as full face helmets and JL banging the bars. Seemed funny at first but I guess a Geezer gotta have some down time too

YT Introduces New Limited Edition Top-Spec Alloy Capra
@Mugen: all options sold out now (looking at their site from UK) I think it’s more a case of people wanting high-spec suspension on Ali frame for value, and not many companies offering that. If they did they’d sell like hot cakes.

Must Watch: High Speed Raw 100 with Thomas Vanderham on Vancouver's North Shore
For me that is the perfect mtb edit! Trail bike Shredding down natural(ish) tracks, no gimmicks. All mtb’ers will recognise how great the riding is, no need for flicks and skids to try to add to the drama. Great filming and editing. Great sound, not spoilt by over-loud freehub (just my opinion). Big thanks!

Ask Pinkbike: Ripmo or Smuggler, Powerful Brakes & Tough Tires
@sherbet: interesting. I just re-read the review on Vital which echo your sentiments. I definitely think you have to live with a product for a while before judging. I had shimano brakes for three years and kept learning or figuring out new tuning tricks with them, so agree set-up is key. I have a total of three rides on Hopes, and no fiddling yet, so should shut about them for now!

@inked-up-metalhead: thanks for the tips! I’ll def try those pads, hadn’t heard of them before but just googled and they seem good price and positive feedback on forums.

Ask Pinkbike: Ripmo or Smuggler, Powerful Brakes & Tough Tires
@conoat: I agree with your comment about modulation, I can’t really understand why people say shimano brakes don’t modulate well - surely it’s just about being used to how the power is delivered on different brakes. I’ve just moved from shimano to hope V4s and now worried I’ve made a mistake. They are fully bedded in, but the instant jab of firm braking (when you’ve got the traction for it) doesn’t seem to be there. Maybe I just need to get used to them? Or get stronger index fingers? The other thing is that without mentioning body weight, surely claims about being ‘powerful enough’ are not comparable. It takes a lot more to stop a 70kg rider than a 90kg rider. Have I made a mistake going Hope? Please say it ain’t so...
