Rampage is arguably the most important contest in mountain biking, a true mountain biker's contest. Nicholi Rogatkin is one of slopestyle’s rising stars, currently sitting in 3rd in the FMB World Tour with a big bag of tricks like no other. Nicholi was a rookie for last years’ Rampage, spending only 3 days ever on his DH bike, prior to the event. The desert, which encompasses the Rampage Course, is as harsh and unforgiving as they come. Nicholi came away humbled from last year, but hungry to throw down in this big terrain. Stacking long days on the big bike, in this area is the only way to prep for Rampage. Utilizing the ‘old site’ Nicholi works to bring his slopestyle prowess and his big bag of tricks to Utah’s infamous Big Mountain Terrain.

Utah Whip

Artbarn Film (Squamish, BC, Canada) took to the open road and joined Nicholi for 4 days in Utah right after Interbike, as he hit the unfamiliar and unforgiving desert dirt to train for the 2015 Red Bull Rampage. Joining us was St. George local, shredder and builder Ethan Nell. Nell was instrumental in helping Nicholi build and ride his features, as well as helping us manage locations and logistics. Not to mention throwing down in his own backyard. We also had a new face join the production team, Cameron Hotchkiss, providing killer camera work and especially quick wit. Special thanks to Ethan and Cameron!

Thanks to: Nicholi Rogatkin, Continental tires, Kali protectives, VP components, Spank Bikes, Pinkbike, Ethan Nell, Cam Kapture, Jordie Lepage, Patrick Henry, Keith White Audio, Tarek Rasouli, Rasoulution, Taylor Loughran, and Kevin Landry.

If he does a cash roll in rampage I think the internet might implode. That was a bonkers bag of tricks in that terrain!
  • 36 6

Hey mang, you want to buy a taco? Its some seriously good shat right here at Bed Bull mang!
  • 19 0
You're right, absolutely bonkers! I thought he was going for a 3 off the step down, then that little puff of dirt from the lip. I thought - that's weird - then the off centre rotation started. I holy-sh*tted out loud (HSOL?). I'm so over stoked for Rampage right now. It's like all the Fest Series, Christmas, and a birthday rolled into one!
  • 16 0
I gotta believe that he tried again with a new wheel and landed it. That was too close to not be doable (by him anyway). This kid is hungry and wants that top step! HSOL
  • 5 0
he's got big big bag of tricks !!
  • 1 1
he'll be coming down the chimney...
  • 7 0
cash roll was rad no joke but I was just as stoked to see a foot plant three and that punk jump!...I love that kind of shit!
  • 3 0
Just missing the crank flip! I would lose it if he did one of those over the canyon
  • 3 1
makes it to the big league, learns to ride with visor...
  • 100 5
You know that shot in a movie when the person is all dirty, having crashed so many times, totally wrecked and sore, but they are giving it one last shot and you're like "Oh he's going to get it!" and then they get it and you're like "Yeaaah I knew it!"? This is not that.

Hold my beer... I'm doing this.... .... ... .. . I need my beer back, and some one pass me a spoke key.
  • 28 0
No spoke key known to man will fix that taco. Though a beer might help
  • 3 1
Ya and do the same a few beers later, just in the opposite direction. Problem solved, wheel fixed.
  • 1 0
i dont think ive ever improved a wheel with a spoke key before ive tries many times though
  • 1 0
It really easy if you have a truing stand and remember drive-side, non-drive side and lefty tighty.
  • 53 5
If he lands a cashroll off one of the natural step downs and runs a reasonably clean run the rest of the way out he'll be tough to beat.
  • 20 1
it all comes to the judges... hope they won't $uck

Rampage isn't best trick as Zink has proven. An awesome trick definitely helps, but it all needs to be there top to bottom
  • 22 7
taquitos... have you not been paying attention? Zink podiumed based off of one trick... It was a burly trick... but it was pretty much the only trick in the run. The rest of the run was slow, had no flow and avoided most every thing. Was all to set up the big trick.

No disrespect. One of the gnarliest things I've ever seen. But he did exactly the opposite of what you're saying. He proved you can do well based off one trick.
  • 6 6
Yeah, zink has only proven that it's about best trick haha
  • 4 2
Podium doesn't equal win. Check your math. 2013 and 2014... 360 and back flip. Placedar well but didn't win.
  • 4 0
Zink's run in 2013 may not have had much flow, but mainly because he botched the bottom. The top didn't have much flow because it was probably the burliest line of the year. I'm pretty sure he and Straight had the same top section, and I think that's a good part of the reason Straight won. I'm not sure what his line is, but Nicholi won't win this if he rides the ridge. Amazing trick or not, there's no precedence for that.
  • 3 0
Let's be honest, rampage is a game for people who can ride a bike
  • 1 1
I hate how it's become obligatory to do some form of spin/trick to be able to win at rampage. Zink won with one big trick in 2012. Gee had a much more dialled run I though and at incredible speed. Here's me hoping Vink gets down that vertical wall and rails the rest or Claw puts something ultra imaginative together with a "normal" sized trick to cap it off. Well.....not that any off us can talk much in comparable to what these guys pull off.
  • 2 0
Word. It's suppose to be a combination of speed, flow, tech, tricks and drops.

Sometimes it works out that way. Look at Straits last win. He didn't do some of the more technical tricks that guys like zink do.

I'm always left going... well... they're the pros not me. LOL!

I think this year you're gonna have a better combination of tricks than ever before but I think there's only a few guys that have the trick in their bag AND have the flow/speed factor.

Maybe 5-6.
  • 1 0
Strait is just one example. Most of the time it actually works that way. If you look through previous results and watch the runs you will see.
  • 44 0
 Wtf? Cashrolling a stepdown?!?!
  • 43 4
Beautiful shooting, great production, awesome riding.. But hard to tell that that's Rogatkin with that awful visor on his helmet. lol
  • 28 2
Rogatkin's gotta lose that visor! doesn't he realize how ridiculous it looks?!
  • 3 3
I think his visor looks cool! A little rounded for style never hurt anyone.

 Thank you!

That video was knarly. Expecting him to be a contender for a podium if he manages to do something huge on the big gap and lands all of his tricks.

There is so much sick shit in that video that gets over looked because it is just buried by even more sick shit. Go Nicholi!

For real. Foot plant 3. Dope. Front flip step down. Dope. 3 off of nothing. Dope. Damn near landing a step down cash roll. Bonkers.

If he sticks a cashroll in Rampage he'll be on the podium for sure!

PS the last 3rd of the video wasn't working for me on pinkbike with Chrome so I found it on youtube- www.youtube.com/watch?v=imFtun5JUp8

In all seriousness that foot plant 3 was filthy.
  • 5 1
Hang on a minute, was that a whip by Nicholi in the past picture? Finally some style!
  • 1 0
Now I am by no means a religious man, but I might have to say a prayer for this guy. How does he not spend most of the year doing rehab when every time he steps on the bike he rides like it's a video game? What a hero. It would be nice to see a little flow though...
  • 4 0
He may be rolling in the cash if he can stick it for Rampage!
  • 4 0
Props to @EthanNell good to see you get some love!
  • 2 0
