AWK Chickadeehill dual air spring for Lyrik

From the Manufacturer:
bigquotesThe AWK-supported air spring offers coil spring feel at air spring weight. Because of the almost linear characteristics the fork can be ridden at a lower pressure level. This remarkably increases sensitivity at fast track sections and improves feedback on berms and takeoffs.

Foothill Products - The Offset Hook

• Machined aluminum wheel storage hook
• Accommodates any kind of wheel
• Colors: Raw (silver), Rouge, and Black.
• Price: $25 USD
foothillproducts.com
The Offset Hook

From the Manufacturer:
bigquotesThe hanger we've designed is better than existing wheel hanging options for a number of reasons. First, it offsets the wheels so the hubs and skewers are out of one another's way, which means they can lie parallel to the wall, out of the way. It protects your wheels by getting them up off the ground, and the wheels rest on a soft pad to guard against possible scratches. It also looks, well, good. Way better than a hook from the hardware store - which won't even work if you've got deep dish, aero wheels. The Offset looks at home whether it's mounted in a hallway, office, or a garage. It's made of sturdy aluminum, and is super easy to install (it even fits on pegboard).

Charlie is an absolute hero down on the south coast of the UK. His is the only MTB shop in a region that has some great riding. He bends over backwards (pun intended) to keep people riding and has helped me on numerous occasions with various mechanicals. 3 Charlie

  • 6 0
 Sounds like a dogging kit!
  • 2 1
 can`t stop laughing !
  • 2 1
I jut imagined what the person who buys all 3 things (Bum Butter, Peaty's Push Ons, and Knee Pads) looks like...
  • 14 1
Yeah, AWK. Everybody who owns one, appreciates it big time. Best thing that has happened to air springs since...the invention of air springs...
  • 9 1
can someone explain the AWK to me? it looks like it creates a 2nd air chamber, i'm assuming with different air pressure than the main chamber, but i'm not sure. how does this help with small bump compliance and midstroke support?
  • 4 0
@xeren: it looks the same as the irt that Manitou uses on the mattoc. It is indeed a second air chamber that you can use to tune mid stroke support - it works really well on the mattoc.
  • 3 3
 @onemind123:

I assume it has a check valve that once the initial pressure builds under compression, the check valve opens, and releases into the AWK.

But....that's just a guess.
  • 5 1
@powaymatt: exactly ... its for all those riders who want to have a good mid support but dont want the hard ramp up at the end if achieve it with tokens. The closest to coil that you can get. This is now the 3th generation and its pretty dam good machined.
  • 4 0
@powaymatt: Not quite, it is just a floating piston. You can run it softer until sag point and beyond sag the spring rate is higher compared to solo air, because the second chamber (higher pressure) comes into play. Beside the german forum, where the man behind the project (user Chickadeehill) explains it, Antonio was kind enough to visualize it on his blog:
linkagedesign.blogspot.de/2016/03/camara-de-aire-awk.html
  • 1 0
Thanks guys, that linkage design blog keeps getting better. i love how much work that guy puts in

onemind123, as you pointed out, it looks similar to the mattoc's IRT system, i found the manitou guide on it here (PDF):

www.manitoumtb.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/IRT-Details.pdf

which also looks similar to Manitou's MARS air (which i think they're discountinuing this or last year along with the Manitou Minute Fork), where you had both a spring and a coil. the coil engaged first, and then once there was enough pressure on the air chamber, it began to compress as well. though i believe that system is more progressive, and designed more for coil-like small bump compliance.
  • 1 0
Very interesting. Does anyone have a link that explains how it works in English?
  • 1 0
@Raffe: copy and paste into google translate works pretty well
  • 14 1
since when are $150 USD shoes a good deal? wtf

Who is running one of these ramp control 2nd air chamber set ups on their Pike?? Input please. Heard some people say the MRP needed higher speeds to activate? Slow speed was harsh? This replaces tokens right? Would like some pros and cons
  • 1 0
There is a series of comments about half a page up that goes over a little more of the info about it.
  • 6 0
Chickadeehill AWK System looks awesome. The MRP ramp control was on my shopping list, but I'd rather have this.
  • 6 0
Now awaiting the AWK Pinkbike review (and hopeful comparison with other similar systems), and a north american distributor.

Because it's not going to ramp up as much.

The double wheel hook - who are you kidding. those hooks could bare hold a modern mountain bike wheel with semi wide tires.
  • 4 0
I bought some of these hooks from their Kickstarter campaign. They hold wheels with 29x2.35s with room to spare.
  • 1 1
 1 hook = $25!?!
  • 1 0
@brianl: yeah but its a nice looking hook and for 2 wheels. $25 to hang a $1k plus wheelset...just to put things in perspective.
