Look's New X-Track Pedals
I often ride in muddy conditions and found the Shimano pedals would clog, which caused constant problem with engagement and release. Switched to Mavic's Crossmax Pro version of the Time ATAC MTB pedals and these work really well in muddy conditions. I would not recommend Shimano XTR M9020 trail pedals for use in muddy conditions.

Scorpion Bike Rack - First Look
I've also had problem with scuffing the bike using a variety of roof and boot racks until recently. About a year ago I got hold of a Yakima Frontloader roof carrier that fits around the front tyre with a strap around over back rim. Put a patch of 3m tape on the rim to prevent scuffing from the rear strap and there's no other contact with the bike. Best I used to date and no scuffing after a year and hundreds of miles plus it quick and easy to load.

I also rate the Thomson covert but I swapped the lever for a Specialized SRL lever that fits on my SRAM Matchmaker brake clamp. Best combination I've used and the post is the only one I've used that hasn't developed side to side seat play.
