Mother's Day Magic in Vernon
Flood reports, boil water advisories and a whole bunch of sand bags - I'm not talking about the podium either. The Tourism Vernon event was off-the-hook, this weekend! Riders came from all of Alberta and BC, to experience some of the gnarliest trails in the Interior of BC. Many riders said that the day was much more challenging than the Fraser Valley race and that Stage 1 brought a whole new level of raw.

Vernon BC, has a quiet town feel, yet its riding community is loud and proud. The community here rolled out all the stops to ensure the trails were ready for a typical BC Enduro Sunny Sunday of racing, read below to check out all the action of the Vernon Enduro, part of the MEC BC Enduro Series (BCES), presented by INTENSE.

Trail Club and Community
The North Okanagan Cycling Society is made up of a diverse group of riders and advocates, with their main riding area being inside of a BC Provincial Park, there is an extra layer of care taken to ensure that all users groups can enjoy this area. One of the crown jewels of this network is the 'Stone Free' climb. On Tuesday when I arrived, the trail was closed due to water damage, from the unprecedented rain fall over the past weeks. The former president of the club, Matt Ball, ensured me that they were doing everything they could to get that trail ready for the weekend, as it wouldn't be the same without riding this unique showcase. Marky D, was excited to showcase Big Ed, a unique and long descent, but due to the recent rainfall, we decided on leaving out the iconic trail, to ensure the impact was minimal.

In every community we go to, I'm absolutely blown away at the support we receive, these volunteer clubs love to showcase their trails to the riders and it's this collaboration that makes riding feel like we're part of a big family. Needless to say, the NOCS crew managed to get Stone Free open just in time for racing, this included over 15hrs of rock work, and a few mandatory walk sections for the riders, but I'm sure many were relieved that they could relax on the last climb with this trail's gentle grade.

Once again, a great big thanks to the NOCS crew for keeping this network running prime and for building such outstanding trails!

If you enjoyed the event and trails, there is nothing more rewarding you could do, then to leave a comment below to show your appreciation for the hard work of these volunteers!

Thanks guys for collaborating with us on this event!

Racing
You can find more photos of the race here. Thanks to James Cattanach for the photos!
Scott Robarts will have his photo's uploaded soon - you can check back here

The trails were in prime condition for racing, with a little rain overnight, keeping them slippery in the right places and tacky where you needed it!

The course was around 35kms in length with approximately 1700m in elevation gain - I think many riders had to a few too many stouts this winter!

Jacob_Tooke, local shredder won stage two overall at a blistering pace, but a flat kept him out of the overall. He still managed to take the top step in the U21 Category and be home in time for dinner! Add this kid on Insta now!

Jo Peters was in love with Stage 1, quite possibly it was due to the sheer gnar factor and the exposure!

#LeyenIntoIt had a few bobbles that kept him from his usual place aboard the podium, he was still out there killin' it and sending everything in sight!

Jeff Pont is taking the podium by storm this year, he put in a lot of work over the winter and it just goes to show that nice guys don't have to finish last.

Bike Check
It's always interesting to see what people are riding, and before the trolls get to us in the comments, we chose local Vernon Strava slayer, @Jacob_Tooke. Jacob was helping out all week in preparation for this race, his only stipulation was that he was home in time for dinner every day! He is also the most polite rider I've ever met, so much so that he's started a new hashtag #AllTheManners. Thanks Jacob for all your help and for always keeping a smile on our faces!

Jacob is also a Blueprint Canadian Enduro Development Team member and is supported by Smith Optics and Olympia Cycle.

When asked about his bike, Jacob said: "Ummmm, suspension set up is stiff for my weight, 'set it and forget it' style. tires are 2.6" in the front, 25 psi, perfect for getting flats. I keep everything in the swat box, literally. My Instagram decal is 25 x 175mm."

This guy had a bit of a tumble, he was beyond the moon, when we awarded him with a Smith Rover Helmet.
