@r-gibson its called criticism. film makers should know by now that people have a strong dislike to over the top slomo and excessive b-roll. Slo mo and b-roll can be great when incorporated tastefully. This video missed that... big time. When youre riding a 8k dh bike wearing fluro pj kit you better do something f*ckin badass. Im sure he's a good rider, but they didnt capture that very well.
@eldofreeride I do appreciate the criticism, maybe there could have been a bit less slomo. The style I was going for in this video was not a huck to flat black sabbath banger, which seems to be popular recently I do agree. I really wanted to showcase Santa Cruz trails with a stunning image, hence the fungi close-ups and filler. Film makers don't always need to cater to what the public likes and dislikes, personally I haven't seen a video like this in a long time so I wanted to do something different. The bright kit was not to imply he's doing something badass, but to give contrast to the dark forest. Here's another video of mine you may enjoy more of @tannerstephens pinning it start to end.
@eldofreeride its called trolling. When your dropping profanity and calling his kit a "fluro pj kit", you come off as more of a dick thats just searching for plus props rather than someone who actually cares about giving good criticism
I'd have to agree with @shredstatus and @bikerguy222. Who says that film makers SHOULD do what the public thinks is cool at the time? How do you think that new styles of film making come about? Being a pioneer in new styles of editing or filming in the biking world, or in this case trying to bring back past styles is what keeps the film game evolving and keeps people from seeing the same stuff too much.
Artistic mountain bike film making is not the problem here. The rider's kit and bike are not the problem here. Going against the norm and turning out a unique and interesting video is not the problem here. The film maker here clearly has skill with a camera and knows how to tastefully edit video. The problem is that the slo-mo and b-roll were excessive, and the 3 minute video was at most half actual riding. I'm not telling the film maker to be a sellout for the masses, but you would do great things if you struck a happy medium between artistic value and stoke factor. Do that and I could see some VODs in your future. I hope you take my criticisms as constructive and not trolling. Good vids benefit everybody
Super well done video and this dude is one rad rider. DH bikes are rad. Trail bikes are rad. XC bikes are.... Kinda rad sometimes. But a guy slayin a trail full kit and downhill rig will always be sicker than your "strava" guy whose wheels never leave the ground trying to go fast.
Why is all Pinkbike comments and talks about now of days are trail bikes…? Good for you, thats sick. But dh bikes are still fun too… You don't have to rail a video or person because they're on a dh rig...
You know people build trails to be shuttled? As in ride down and drive back up.. Yes, it's true that you could ride those trails on a trail bike; however, riding them on a downhill bike is a lot more fun. If you want to see people holding on for their life and getting extremely sketchy then go watch the beginner class at your local enduro race (I say enduro race and not downhill race, because downhill is dying due to people like you)
