At the start of the season I can never recognise riders in their new kit!

That left berm - damn I could watch those tires and hear them crunch all day long - like a bubbling creek of raw goodness

@AutumnMedia: sounds as good as it feels my dude!

 @dextersdad: That it does hahaha!

I have just watched the Earthed series of movies... what has happened to proper dh tracks? This is more like A line than a proper DH track from 15 years ago. I'm not critting this track in particular, its happening everywhere.
  • + 4
this is a shit track, but you're right, tracks are getting far too easy compared to how hard out they used to be
  • + 9
right! bikes are more capable than ever before and yet we are forced to ride more groomed trails than ever before. make it challenging
  • + 5
I'm looking forward to Losinj for this exact reason, that one seems to finally be a proper DH track again.

For proper downhill tracks you should watch EWS...

@Floyd123: if you've never race downhill on Vintage downhill bikes with Rim brakes in wet slop you are never allowed to complain about modern-day tracks.
  • + 9
@properp: 10 miles, both ways, in waist deep snow! *Grumble grumble*

@jayacheess: please remind me again about how horrible it is to live in flat Florida throughout the winter and be able to ride your bicycle every single day. Cheers bro and may your spring come extremely soon. I migrate down south and spend my Winters in this wonderful riding sanctuary. Can't deal with that white stuff anymore. Life is just too short for me to spend it hibernating.

Northeast US still has rock gardens
  • + 6
@Floyd123: @headshot you cant tell that from the video. Ive ridden this track rather than watched a few 100 yard sections on video and it has steep-tech, just in the top 2/3 that arent show here. Wet roots, rocksteps etc.

@bombdabass: true but its not exactly glencoe...
  • + 3
15 years ago that was a good track ,cant believe how poor it looks now

Enough said. A picture's worth a thousand words.
  • + 1
@gjedijoe: we did, but then the local trail network piled dirt over them so that they would drain better
  • + 3
top section aint bad but all goes park after fire road crossing ,never been a fan of motorway stuff.
  • + 1
 @Trailstunter: nailed it
  • + 2
@Floyd123: the bike park that you see mostly on the video is just the bottom 3rd, top is fast but rocky and twisty, middle is a natural line quite tight between the trees and then it drops into bike park
  • + 2
@bombdabass: Good to hear. I am certainly not belittling the skills on display in that video, I'd have to upskill a lot to ride those bigger jumps at all. On reflection, I think the Earthed movies are probably also a little misleading and probably focus on the gnarly crashes rather than the smooth faster sections. That said, the interviews with Peat, Rachel A and others re the quality of the modern tracks is worrying. I also suspect that in the early 2000's the riders used to pad up massively and walked away from crashes that would take a lightly padded rider out today...

This is a trail centre red at best, walked it on Friday and wished I'd taken my enduro bike! I've been DH racing for 25 years and I've never seen tarmaced sections of DH track before!!!
  • + 1
@properp: right cause that makes sense.
  • + 2
@bombdabass: i have too, it is shit

I honestly only ride mountain creek bike park. If you look up the pro grt or US open videos ull see why I think they need more flow trails if anything. Also heard plattekil(?) in ny is similar @vtracer:

 Love me some DH..
  • + 6
 That soundtrack is great.

The national series is looking pretty good this year. We have flow trails like last weekend to Glencoe at the end of July. I love the gnarr for Dh but having a mix makes for some interesting racing for the overall. For the WC riders, this to Croatia isn't the best preparation.

Can I watch this on Colombian TV?

Can you watch this on Columbian TV ?
You can't watch it on British TV, so i doubt it.
Try asking a Columbian ?
  • + 4
@pigman65: Apparently you didn't see the coverage of the EWS round 2. Pretty sure that after 35+ rounds of EWS, Colombia was the first stop to actually have local coverage...
  • + 4
@scvkurt03: this is the BDS, not the EWS, hardly likely to be on any sort of tv
  • + 2
@pigman65: it isn't the bds, Simon shut that up last year this is NDS.
  • + 1
@bxxer-rider: yes, if you want to split hairs
  • + 3
hope vernon can get back on winning ways
  • + 3
 "just whistle while you work.."
  • + 1
Lol I like how the guy who can't whip got unceremoniously cut from the video
  • + 1
Matt Walker, nice win especially with such a deep field. Liking that 29er eh?!
  • + 2
One can only take so much whistle in such a short period of time.
  • + 3
 Thank you Vital.

Hey brits! I will trade you some relentless Arizona heat, dry and sun for some of your relentless cold, wet, and cloud- deal?
  • + 4
 No thanks.

@Samuel-L-Jackson: Brit in exile here, you might want to check out National in January before you make up your mind, www.youtube.com/watch?v=SOTzVrt4PwY (disclaimer; pro riders with gimbals make stuff look easy)

and this is what "DH" has become...
  • + 1
@Bobafett164: The bottom section after the road crossing where most of the filming shows was only rebuilt this winter and made flow trail. The top section is old DH track, it being built in 2005. Rowan Sorrell Riding it back in 2005 :- Cwmcarn Y Mynydd 2005
  • + 1
@Bobafett164: But I admit watching the video back now it all looks a bit flow, I guess when I last rode it was about 2014 and it had hardly any maintenance so was very dug out, eroded and rough, all roots and rocks, what most older riders think of as proper DH track. I raced the otherside of the mountain back in 1999 and remember the track being really hard and I think some of Y Mynydd must have existed as natural trail as sure I rode a track in its place.
  • + 2
 @StevieJB: The 700mm bars.
XC racers are using wider now. Always cool to look back at what used to be the cutting edge.
  • + 1
@willyheff: I’d not clocked that yes they are super narrow bars, such a different riding position than you see these days as well very upright and awkward looking.
  • + 1
 sweet flow trails
