Rama Fire died this weekend in Hawaii. I only mention it here because he has always been one of my biking idols. Ever since I could remember the start of the 4th of July Parade in Friday Harbor would be announced by a wild blur of a lanky kid maualling the entire length of the town. And that was the best part. The free candy, creativity of the floats and sense of community, great as they were, were second rate to the jaw dropping talent of mile long manual.

The article I linked to here is a sample of how much passion he had for biking and how, all through his life, he bettered communities by doing it. The NW BMX scene lost a charismatic leader this weekend. But as did his trails fill a need his legacy will be kept by those he inspired through the continued development of public riding areas all around the world.

RIP Rama Fire
