Nothing official yet, but Johannes Fischbach sent this through with a note saying he's pretty sure this is the longest jump on a bike ever at 50 metres. Holy hell.
@Aengis: seriously guys, give enve a break. They did say that you could buy a brand new car and wreck it as soon as you drive it off the lot. If that doesn't explain to you why it's just fine for your $3k rims to break, I don't know what will...
@Naturel: Its really not his fault though. Whoever quality tested his response just made a human mistake and missed all the BS, we're just humans after all. Oh and the keyboard used to type it out wasn't so great.
@Naturel: Pretty sure "that PR guy" is actually one of the original employees of ENVE. He was also a wheel builder there and has seen a lot of stuff coming through ENVE. I am pretty sure he has a lot riding on the quality on his product and will try to make sure something happens. Reading the review, it seemed like more of an attack against carbon wheels than anything.
@Beyond-The-Tape: Besides personally feeling that carbon wheel are wildly inappropriate for Electric Mountain bikes I think the biggest issues with the review was ENVE's lack of accountability for a product that they charge a massive premium for.
@theredbike: They did take responsabilty and probably would in a customer situation by processing a warranty. I honestly think that from what the author describes, that he should have been on a M9 rim. The PR guy did say that, they shouldn't have received the rims and there is obviously a hole in the QC procedure, sounds pretty accountable to me.
That old school video is Igor Obu on his Steppenwolf DH Bike in... 1999. It was in a TV show back then, I can't remember the name. The Jump took place in Garmisch-Partenkirchen (GER). Distance was 41,11m. Look here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLbkEczpOF0
Cheers for that. The landing impact is nuts. Every time a particular guy i know, talked s*** about the old 32mm Boxxers, i always thought of this video haha. The tune used, just before he drops in, is The Chemical Brothers 'Under The Influence'.
May be the world record should be measured by air time instead of distance? didn't seem to be off the ground in either time or height for any where near what rampage or fest series riders acheive
What I meant was, (I'm not taking anything away from his accomplishment) He didn't seem to be in the air for very long.. I'm pretty sure I've had wheels of the ground for longer time than that ski jump over a 20ft double(an I suck) He got his distance from the speed he was travelling. Now look at a (something like) a Fest 90 ft jump an measure the arc the rider travels, not from lip to lip... A LOT more air time and, I'm willing to say more distance traveled..............?
@nojzilla: Dude, why do you think it has to be one or the other? As said, nothing stopping anyone from setting up another record for longest airtime, but this was a record for distance. (And frankly, the fact that he was using so much speed makes it quite impressive, IMO!)
@wingguy: do you know how a ski jump is measured exactly? Is it from lip to landing? Or distance down the landing hill? Or distance calculated in a straight line? I'm not having a pop, I'm genuinely interested in which rider is covering more distance....
@TheOriginalTwoTone: OK but you called it so you pay my travel, you pay for the bike from 1999 (though I wonder why you would make that part of the deal) and you pay for my inevitable medical bills
@nojzilla: you're saying you've had wheels off the ground longer than he did. Well the video is from 1999, I doubt you're referencing yourself from 20 years ago. So it begs the question would have the balls to do the same on 1999 tech.
@rallyimprezive: yes,, I can get that But, Who covers more distance Is what I'm asking Lip to lip in a measured straight line Or the actuall travelled arc........ Do I need a f*cking chalk board to spell it out to you like a f*cking child Hashtagfaceoalmemoji
@nojzilla: Wow. Pissy. I understand that you are wondering about the actual path traveled. You are so fantastic for wondering that. Such an outside the box thinker, you are. If it's so important to you, then figure it out yourself. Grab your chalk board and do the math.
@rallyimprezive: I'M pissy??? LOL go look in a fkng mirror. OR just re'read these comments an see for yourself how light hearted I'M being before Y'all started commenting like dicks............
x2. I've stood at the top, and tobogganed down the "astroturf-eqse" landing slope when younger and stupid(er). it's f*cking terrifying - I couldn't imagine hitting that on a bike.
Didn't Fabio do 44 meters or something like that.... on the snow... on accident? Something tells me that if this becomes the new "record" it won't last long. Pretty sure there are some guys doing dirt to dirt close to this already.
I love the speed/acceleration. I always wanted a world cup circuit that only does downhill ski runs, full open, no trees, root canyons or switchbacks. Hit 100km/hr plus on gravel with jumps and rutted turns at speed. It would be awesome to watch via drones and helicopters.
@Naturel: So we are going to call it the Redbull Descent of Death? I'm 100% in if we get to rip straight down a mountain, on gravel, with booters that cap 120 feet on an mountain bike / motocross with no motor!!
Does anyone know where the video is, of another guy doing something similar, years ago, with some old 32mm Boxxers on his bike? The impact of him landing was pretty crazy haha
Try it... huge percentage of folks clearing A-line make it because they touch down before they lose balance completely. If jumps had same kickers but landings were shorter and going deeper so that the flight was lasting a second more they would smash their faces with their crappy technique based on forgiving bike. It is forgiving both on the take off and on the landing
Dustfarter- Good job, you can tell the difference between a nordic ski jump and a regular jump for MTBing..... now where's that medal for most obvious post of the year....
@WAKIdesigns: Yeah everybody riding A Line sucks, the only reason most people make it is because the jumps don't allow enough air time for all of them to just flail out in the air. Thank god for the forgiving bikes.
@warmerdamj: if you just sit by a trail like A-line on a crowded day, you'll see so more dead sailors than Davy Jones has seen through his undead life. And these will be same people, doing same sort of dead sailor, time and time again. Been there, done that, not holier than thou, but people often don't realize how hard it is too manage additional second of flight. If you can count a little bit past 3 seconds, it is damn long. 1-2secs are often manageable, but 2-3 is a big difference.
@WAKIdesigns: so people who clear a-line would eat shit in a poorly built version of it... interesting.
for sure 1-2" is manageable, but 2-3 seconds in the air is massive, either for bike or snowboard/ski, it's pro level. I remember Wille Yli-Luoma talking about a 3" kicker in a snowboard video.
@Naturel: no 3" jumps in a-line, I don't even think in crabapple.
@ismasan: I definitely don't mean people who compete in Crankworx Air DH... but I see plenty of folks hitting 20 footers and being completely unaware how close they are to eating it. There is a dude on V10 sending the Rollercoaster in Hafjell while sitting on his ass most of the way...
I wonder how many ENVE haters have actually owed a pair? I've owned 2 sets and can't say enough positive accolades about my personal experiences. Those pesky keyboard trolls strike once again!

I can get that
But,

btw there was an enduro race for the 50 years of the ski jump, mountain biking is really taking over skiing

Igor Obu did it 2011
I bet they still using square wheels.
