15 competitions in 4 event levels and 20,000 Euros prize fund are confirmed

The recently announced Freeride Mountain Bike (FMB) World Tour gained lots of interest and positive feedback in the mountain bike scene and industry as well as from event organizers. The Freeride Mountain Bike Association (FMBA) is now proud to present overall 15 competitions taking part in the FMB World Tour. Only the four best results of each registered rider count for the final FMB World Tour ranking. The single events are categorized into four levels: BRONZE, SILVER, GOLD and DIAMOND. Due to the support from the industry the FMB World Tour will pay the top riders of 2010 an overall prize fund of 20,000 Euros. More details inside,The FMBA has been quite busy during the last weeks: negotiations with different event organizers have been held, the event categorization was finalized, the single competitions were rated, the FMBA board of directors was voted and industry supporters have been acquired.

The categorization system integrates a multiplicity of different criteria that ascertain the level of each single event. Main criteria are: the type and demands of the course, the rider line-up, the level of prize money, the professionalism of judging, media output and services in general. All competitions of the FMB World Tour have been categorized in close cooperation with the event organizers into one of four levels: BRONZE, SILVER, GOLD and DIAMOND. The FMBA reviews the events year by year in order to make sure these can keep the standards of their categories or change to a different level. The highest competition level is DIAMOND. These events are fulfilling the criteria right now in the best possible way.

From BRONZE to GOLD, the higher the competition level the more points are collected by attempting riders for the overall FMB World Tour ranking. Each rider’s best four results at the different FMB World Tour competitions and related points count for the overall ranking. So the riders can collect points and improve their standings all season long. There are three BRONZE, five SILVER and five GOLD competitions in 2010. The two most important DIAMOND FMB World Tour stops, the Kokanee Slopestyle at Crankworx Whistler and the Red Bull Rampage, are at the same time the last ones of the whole FMB World Tour schedule:

Strong brands and well-known magazines are committed to the FMB World Tour. Their belief and trust into the whole project was followed by a direct support. The FMBA is proud and thankful to have the FMB World Tours supporters Adidas Eyewear, Alexrims, Avid, BigBike Magazine, Bikepark Leogang, Bikemag (USA), CamelBak, Decline Magazine, GT, Manitou, Mavic, Mongoose, RockShox, Scott, Specialized, SRAM, Truvativ and TSG on board. With the supporters’ help, a prize fund of 20,000 Euros (over 25,000 US Dollars) was raised. Not only the prize money, but certainly the world ranking list, which will always be updated and informs who is in the mix, will be a motivation for riders from all over the world to give their best in the FMB World Tour competitions.

The freeride season is about to begin next weekend, when the FMB World Tour will be kicked off in Austria at the Vienna Air King (9-11th April).

General information about the FMB World Tour:
The goal of the Freeride Mountain Bike (FMB) World Tour is to help develop the sport of Freeride Mountain Biking - which includes: big mountain, slopestyle and dirt jumping - providing athletes and event organizers with a tangible world ranking system and guidelines for course design, judging and safety. The FMB World Tour is run by the Freeride Mountain Bike Association (FMBA), a non-profit organisation following the goal to push the mountain bike freeride sport into a more professional direction and establish it in the world of sports through the raise of media and public attention.

The FMBA advisory board is an alliance of core scene members consisting of professional athletes, event organizers and opinion leaders: Aaron Chase (pro rider / USA), Todd Barber (event organizer “Red Bull Rampage” / USA), Alex Dörr (CEO & founder EIM Solutions / GER), Tarek Rasouli (athlete manager & event organizer, “Big in Bavaria”, “26TRIX”, “Vienna Air King”, “White Style” / GER), Vincent Saccomani (judge of international events, journalist & filmer / FRA), Jeremy Roche (organizer “Kokanee Crankworx” and “Crankworx Colorado” events / CAN), Darren Berrecloth (pro rider & event organizer “Bearclaw Invitational” / CAN) and Grant Fielder (pro rider & course builder / GBR). After an internal voting March 2010, FMBA’s Board of Directors consists of the 1st president Tarek Rasouli, 2nd president Todd Barber and 3rd president Jeremy Roche.

What have you got in Brazil or Argentina that is worth while??? They have the #1 spot in the world on the list ( Whistler) what makes you think that they would put generic places?

We HAVE some pretty cool spots that we can't ride because there is nobody capable (Chapada Diamantia and some other locals)

hey icedemon, i wouldnt be so quick to knock South America, yes these places on the list are all top riding locations the world over, but in a few years or so, I truly believe that the companies like redbul that put on these events are going to be looking into less familiar, less scouted out countries. take mike kinrade and the argentine project for example.

Don't they have a little mountain range called the Andes on down there in S. America? That might be an OK place to ride.
  • 3 0
Yep, but not in brazil and the chapada diamantina is something like a canyon but made of rocks it has that name "diamantina" because it was a place that were common to find some diamonds in the past

I dunno being that my father has traveled to Machu Pichu and all and I heard that the area and most of the andes mts. are nothig but sure rock cliffs... who knows maybe they will have a RedBull rampage in the sahara... get a grip...

im talkin about Argentina here, and the salta province to be exact, not Peru... also the andes mountains stretch the entire west coast of South America, from tropical regions to sub polar. they terrain isnt all "sure rock cliffs".
  • 2 0
For sure it would be an awesome place to ride Beer i know some parts of the Andes...
  • 7 0
how does the points system work? if you win a bronze event, how does that compare to winning rampage?
  • 4 1
I dont see why they call it the "FREE RIDE MOUNTAIN BIKIE WOULD TOUR" when it on only consists of 6 countries!! i sure if there was talk of a FMB event in canberra, all of the mtb riders in Canberra and New South Wales would be happy to help build the course!

but apart from that it sounds pretty cool.

yer aye im with you i wish Australia had a massive event .. there is nothing here in Australia event wise
  • 2 0
yeah, Australia has a HUGE mtb community! the rest of the world doesnt know aboutit because it's all illegal.

25 000 overall prize money? split between the top riders...
yes its a step in the right direction but thats still chump change when compared to most sports. granted mountain biking isnt huge but if you
think about it, thats the price of like 4 team build v-10's... that buys you a honda civic..
its sick we're legit enough to have a world tour but i think the bike industry can do better.
  • 1 0
Yeah i know what you mean, you have any idea how much money Footballers get for scoring just 1 goal? sad, but hopefully the biking industry will get a kick up the backside soon Smile

these riders will be doing it for the love of the sport. I just hope the industry and this orginization can help the payout for them. with over a dozen events and just a handful of riders who can actually afford to travel to them, 25K US$ isn't gonna cut it. if you pay just 3 deep it would barely cover your air fare
  • 1 0
hopefully some sponsors will pitch in and pay for some airfare and what not, i dunno i just ride for fun
  • 1 0
Oh ya whos down to ride after they finish at the RedBull? Anyone??
  • 1 0
Sick!!! this is gonna be a rowdy year for Rampage, especially with it being the last stop on the tour.
