FMB rider Aaron Chase and cyclocross racer Tim Johnson are swapping bikes!
Even if freeride mountain bike rider, Aaron Chase, and cyclocross racer, Tim Johnson, share the same mode of transport, their disciplines are quite different. Find out what happens when they step into each other's shoes in Red Bull Crossroads. In the first edition, Aaron takes Tim into the New Jersey woods and shows him some dirt jumps in a New York park.
Freeride mountain bike rider Aaron Chase and cyclocross racer Tim Johnson step into each other's shoes for Red Bull Crossroads. In Part 2, Tim teaches Aaron some 'cross skills while Aaron shows Tim the proper wallride technique.
Cyclocross is one of the most punishing forms of bicycle riding there is. Mountain biking, like the ones portrayed in these videos, take less strength but more prowess and skill. It's great to see a cyclocross rider take something he's never tried before and actually be good at it. Same for Aaron.
@Morsinator: That's quite interesting because from all the international XC races that I have seen, I haven't seen one rider wearing the iconic Red Bull helmet and so on. I haven't watched a international XC race for quite some time now so that might be the reason.
I am actually offended that they were at Lynn Woods Reservation and didn't do any mountain biking. Some of the BEST technical trails on the east coast and they didn't even look at them. The tower they were standing in front of, is on the south side of the park away form where all the good single track is.
As someone who does all mountain, freeride and rides a roadbike, I think those videos did a great job illustrating the differences between two very different disciplines of basically the same sport. I really enjoyed that a lot.
i think this was HILARIOUS! Chase was riding cyclocross with just a bit of extra effort, but Tim was freaking out about rolling over everything! huge difference in rider skill, but great idea
I'm pretty sure it would take more than "just a bit of extra effort" for Chase to do proper Cyclo-cross. As anyone who has ever attempted a sport that involves a huge amount of fitness, its a world of pain and hard work.
