Mental. Like i said before, helmet's off to each and every rider who went there. They have the bottle and the skill. Pushing boundaries!

Agree ^^^^ the guys that do this are amazing and crazy at the same time!
  • 50 3
zink's 360 was the most amazing thing ever done in freeride downhill. so far..
  • 15 14
I knew someone was going to 360 that gap, it was just a matter of who. Leave it to my favorite rider! Zink always kills it! Soooooooo sweet!
  • 15 0
 God I love this sport!!!

  • 31 0
great footage but red bulls video player is doing my nut in!!
  • 41 3
This event wasn't the greatest advert for Marzocchi
  • 2 3
who else broke 888's? i thot it was only one rider?
  • 12 0
what's the name of the song?

and btw, come on, upload that vid to pb! red bull player sux and I can't fave the video Razz
  • 8 1
TSeeing Zink pull off that 3 was an amazing moment in MTB history...and big props to claw for coming back so quick from injury and placing in the top three
  • 19 0
gotta take into consideration that those 888's snapped on some super gnarly crashes.
  • 15 1
anyone think bearclaw's run should have gotten him 2nd? i think holding that nacnac down the first 100 vertical feet of his line is worthy of mentioning
  • 3 2
^^^ agree, that took some skill, and was a trick in itself..
  • 11 2
lets be honest what forks wouldnt break under some of those crashes
  • 2 0
oops didnt read the comment above
  • 11 4
yeah Claw's run was better than Gee's, Claw should've been second and Gee should've been in third.
  • 6 2
im gunna agree with melonhead on that one
  • 6 0
 Zink has had SOLID year
  • 5 0
agreed to that^^ he's won the 2 biggest competitions of the year.
  • 6 1
damn.... this is ehm.... awesome and pervert.... pervert is awesome... damn.... awesome! damn, this red bull player sucks!!!
  • 7 1
imagine doing red bull rampage on a hardtail...no imagine not being able to have kids. i think you just imagined the same thing...
  • 3 1
this is most fuckin crazy thing ever.. all i have seen all week is people gettin fucked up! occasionally something super dope landed haha.
  • 2 0
 zink is a mad man
  • 1 0
did atherton do any tricks or just banger lines?
  • 3 0
banger lines... but that hip... was massive
  • 2 0
banger line. if you count moto whipping as a trick then yes he tossed a trick or two out there. his 2nd place was all line and flow.
  • 6 1
the claw should have beat him
  • 1 0
for the people who cant see the red bull player and for those who had to watch it in crappy quality. www.pinkbike.com/video/163259
  • 1 0
Lots of gnarly crashes with all brands of fork. But only 888s snapped. Bad luck?
Test will be how many guys are riding them next time! Lol.
At least one breakage looked random - on the gap-wall ride. Could have cost that rider a podium.
  • 1 0
that fork straight up broke on him. he landed clean. but what kind of crashes did he take in the 6 months leading up to it is the real question. guys that aren't fully mega supported like doerfling don't exactly get their parts swapped out all the time like super pro's who ride for bigger companies.
pretty unfortunate for marz
and seriously, the crash hopkins put his bike through was retarded. anything would've broken there. but i wasn't sure it was just the fork. could it have been the whole headtube of the bike? i only saw one flash clip, i could be wrong
braaaap!
  • 1 3
Did you see Mike Kinrades crash? He bent his bars and broke a bone... hes been riding the same fork all season, unserviced, and he said it felt as plush as ever after the crash. Sorry, but I cant help but believe that Marzocchi moving their production to Taiwan hurt their quality, and I think that VERY CLEARLY shows here. The made in Italy 888s never broke at Rampage in the past. Give it a couple years for Zocchis rep to keep going downhill and they will do an about face like Manitou did and move production back. As far as who will ride them there next year? Whoever is still sponsored by them will... they have no choice.
  • 1 0
it could just be down to chance, the way these guys crashed, doerfling was kind of expected as he fell so heavy and the guy who snapped them front wheel casing the 60ft canyon gap was expected really, he would of been going so fast
  • 3 1
Who cares if someone at rampage broke some 888s? I don't think any of us mere mortals are going to be snapping a pair any time soon. They are very good forks, and we should not be put off buying them just because of this
  • 8 0
I have been reading the comments with regards to the forks, and I fully stand by the 888. I can only speak for myself, but the crash I took at Rampage put exponential leverage forces on the entire bike (wheels, handlebar, frame ... ) not just the fork. My forward momentum combined with the impact angle of the bike, did not allow for the fork to compress, ultimately putting it in an impossible and compromising situation. No bike is meant to experience this scale of impact. I feel lucky to come out as well as I did, but it would have been a stretch to expect the same out of my bike.
  • 3 0
i do think its just a coincidence that some 888s got broken in this event, of course it's the RAMPAGE. do you guys even remember the first batch of 2010 boxxers that got broken at the arch? they were just being used by normal people riding normally not unlike the insane big burly riding that these forks and bikes get abused at the Red Bull Rampage. there are alot of riders using the new 888 but not all got broken aint it. don't even neg prop me coz i only have a cheap bike but i say this because its just common sense don' you think?i'd still buy a 888 if i have the money
  • 1 0
the few boxxers that broke at the arch were also ALWAYS crash related. not exactly as dangerous a situation as stanchions breaking but hopkins is totally right, thats what you get when parts are seriously abused. it just happens that no sram sponsored riders took such direct slams on their forks but doerflings was different, the jump his forks actually broke on wasn't the actual cause, he landed well, his fork broke because it was fatigued from previous crashes or impacts braaaap!
  • 1 0
apparently i'm missing something... i see the one fork break @ 2:07 in the video where the rider comes up short on the canyon gap. Where are the other fork breaks? Or is it a diff video?
  • 10 0
great ridding, but i think the photos are looking way better (and give you a better feeling of what went down) than the videos
and why does red bull insist on using there sh*ty video player?
  • 5 1
cos they're getting paid to advertise for themselves. it's their dream come true!
  • 4 0
more like they're paying to advertise themselves, not getting paid. redbull doesn't make money from events, they dump money into events for the advertising factor.

pepsi spends their ad money on $10 million super bowl commercials,
red bull spends it on sick events, which is fun, but the whole thing is a redbull commercial at the heart, think of how many RB logos you just saw.
  • 2 0
well everyone benefits from it so i dont mind pitching on rebulls if this is what its going towards Razz
  • 1 0
yeah but for pinkbike or sicklines etc to use the redbull player, and to get the live feed on pinkbike from RedBull, they had to pay ...
  • 1 0
that is a good point i'm immune to advertising anyway, red bull is disgusting shit but they do know how to party
  • 9 0
right after finals on the chat so many people were bitching about claw coming in third, but he did fuck up at the beginning and as cool as it looked he lost points for it. as for gee, he made a huge step down to hip that no ones ever landed before and he made it and his whole run look smooth as silk. so i thought the judging was very fair.
  • 1 0
Claw was 1.2pts behind. I bet he lost more than that for stopping, talking and walking to the finish. So it is hard to say that on the technical side, he didn't deserve 2nd.
  • 9 1
gees got the tricks suicides, backflips e.t.c i think he's got next years world cup schedule in the back of his mind, after all, dans got a broken neck and rachael been injured for most of the last 2 seasons. gees an all out racer, he doesn't make his living from freeride(big mtn) he's got to play it safe to a certain extent, prob why he sat out his 2nd run.
  • 2 3
The other guys all make a living riding too.
But they were not too scared for a 2nd run. Zink crashed that 3 hard the first time, but still got up and tried it again. Incredible props.
And why show up if you're going to sit back? Got to go for it.
  • 1 0
Why show up? He got 2nd that's why, kid.
  • 10 0
i was hoping he'd land that flat spin! you just knew he was gonna go for it. Bourdon is Rampage.
  • 11 0
that red bull media player is starting to piss me off...
  • 2 0
If the video stutters, hit pause and let the loader bar go for a few seconds (or minutes) then hit play. Expand to screen for best experience. Don't touch anything else!!!! Especially that little slider with the two red arrows... it will kill your joy every time.
  • 7 0
Gee just looks pissed in the closing seconds with Zink on top of the podium... Claw's run was more tech, but Gee turn the gnarliest terrain into a basic race course...smoked the whole thing in like half the time as some of the other riders!
  • 1 0
He should be pissed. I think he absolutely cannot complain about 2nd so it's a shame if he's sore about that. Can only blame himself for not attempting a 2nd run. I thought Claw was better. If they took the timing out of this, Gee would not do too well with not much else in the bag but fast DH smoothness. Every other rider was doing crazy stuff to try and win it in style. Zink did it.
  • 1 0
it is why style only count for 25% or this competition. it's a mountain bike event, not a slope style one. this is where a rider put his view of mtb on the slope. gee run was way more smooth than 75% of riders who had to almost stop then pedal a bit cause they lost to much speed etc..
  • 5 0
There's no way Gee would win even if he made no hander. Zink's 360 is just a different class. No disrespect to Gee. He is undoubtely the most versatile rider out there and successful in almmost every mtb discipline possible. I knew he would do good at Rampage, do you remember his huck to flat during his winning run in Windham? sick as fok!
  • 5 1
ZINK! CANNOT believe he pulled that off! GEE also major props too for 2nd! and CLAW lol well, what can i say he CLAWED his way back onto that bike at the start and still made a sick run! but still MAD PROPS to all riders that took part!!!
  • 8 1
it was better watching it live but dammm that was sick
  • 1 0
 damn right it was
  • 6 0
Bourdon by far had the nastiest trick of the day if he coulda landed that flatspin 4! over 360 yeeeahhh!
  • 7 0
no way man nastiest trick would have been lacondeguys no handed flip
btw speaking of him, does anybody know why brad can't pronounce his name? first and last? is he a name retard or something?
  • 1 0
If I were one of those guys, I'd be sure to butcher his name if/when he interviewed me. Just because.

I would think that if you knew you were going to announce an event - ANY event - you would do just a hint of research and know your players. This 21st century world is all weird-like!!
  • 1 0
and this isn't the first time Brads done that. He's been announcing comps like rampage and "crashworx" for how many years now? I'm starting to get a little P/Oed at him.
  • 4 1
anybody who buys a monster energy drink should get the can slapped right out of their face. monster does jack shit for mountain biking except pay sam hill and some other guys. red bull makes this shit happen. don't ever forget it the best things to ever happen to mountain biking red bull made it happen rampage psychosis exodus 5000 down elevation, not mtb, but sick as it could be gimme a damn red bull and vodka! braaap!
  • 1 0
yeah, for a super huge company, redbull kills it
  • 1 0
buddy. thats why you should buy red bull they put money into our sport monster doesn't braaap
  • 1 0
buddy. i think you've got it a little wrong. that event wouldn't have happened in any similar form without red bull providing the money to support it. and when a company like red bull throws a ton of money away at an event like this its not directly because we go out and buy red bulls. its actually because supporting events and athletes looks good for taxes. sure i agree the promotional side of things is a benefit. but its a tax thing. all i was really trying to say is. redbull supports mountain biking way more than any other energy drink sponsor. they make cool shit happen. very few companies do it in any comparable way
  • 1 0
it would not have been this big, and possibly would have never happened. without 30 grand to make a 40'x40' 360 drop worth it people would be shredding no doubt but not like this, if it wasn't worth a pay cheque
  • 1 0
what about the Monster Energy Slopestyle??
That's pretty rad imo ...

You are right that Red Bull the most for a lot of action sports, but other companies deserve credit too
  • 3 0
Riding at new levels will also come with the gravity payback. As for Redbull, some large unpleasant corp will sponsor an event. Seems like one giving back to the sport is the lesser of many evils. Elite riders will transfer their need for risk taking to other activities/sports, and relative risk is an important issue here. You or I would be much more likeley to get a shiny new wheelchair/coffin out there, whereas the challenge is relative to their ability. It's all relative. They weren't riding by the skin of their teeth, but they did get close to the raggedy edge when the trick bag was being emptied. Hence they were adapting the challenge to their level. I think watching crashes from a sport you do is more about relating to it than a sport you don't where it's just entertainment.

Breast milk has a high level of taurine, I think the Rampage should be sponsored by Hooters. (pinch of salt not included with my post)

And as if it needed saying, the riding was so sick it was terminally ill!
  • 1 0
I completely agree with your first part of the post, and the last part; but (I've never been to Hooters so I don't know for sure) I don't think that many "waitresses" over there are pregnant ...
  • 2 0
sooo sickk! but it was on vital first =p hahahaha
zinks 360 was absolutely mind blowing like the sheer size and just everything about 3ing that set up is unreal
props to darren as well for going back to the roots! i think thts where rampage is at.. technical big mountain not just all tricks
  • 2 0
Red Bull Rampage is so EPIC. and everyone who participated showed the world that Mountian Bikeing will never stop progressing. I Love this sport!!! I just wish I had the balls to even attept gaps, drops and tricks half as Insane as these guys.
  • 3 0
Rampage=Epic mtb contest. So sick that Zink 3'd the sender. I wish Brourdon coulda landed that flat spin even though his run was a wash.
  • 4 1
gees the man! world cup overall champ and 2nd at rampage! gotta be the most versatile rider in the world, flat out speed and balls the size of melons
  • 3 6
I think Gee's run was better overall, ok Zink 3'ing the icon sender but until that his line wasn't as good as Gee's
  • 5 1
If Gee could throw just one suicide one hander in his runs he could win this event i think.
  • 1 3
 "If gee could throw..."
Exactly. But he can't/won't. So how is that versatile? His run was DH. Claw was balls-out FR. Zink was absolutely committed after crashing that 3 hard. Even getting up for a 2nd run was impressive. To try the 3 again at all was crazy. To nail it. Amazing. PROPS!
PROPS for Claw's save at the top too. Amazing! That save was better than all the stuff G didn't attempt put together.
  • 4 0
Gee should have won. and had bearclaw not nearly killed himslef then he would have justly taken 2nd. The main criterion was line choice and fluidity. Gee and Bear took lines that no one else went near, and Gee's run was unbeleivably smooth and so much faster than everybody elses. secondly Romo is an absolute icon and a proper sender, but couldnt hit that sender hip/wall ride...Gee really did make it look so easy and compared to the footage of Romo taking a hit, did it wih much more amplitude as well. Looking at Zink's run, its hard to dismiss throwing down a 3 of that size (props to him)...but we knew he was guna do it as he tried it first run and failed. On top of that he took a line which a good 40% of the other riders took, and did so without much grace or fluidity. This was after all not a best trick comp but the Rampage...THIS IS JUST MY OPINION.
  • 1 0
My opinion exactly, just better put. Thanks
  • 1 0
 Well said Samarius !!
  • 3 1
gee's run was butter simple as that claw messed up at the top if he didnt' maybe he would of got second but we will never know. for all that missed it live you all missed so much it was insane
  • 4 2
claw should have got second and should have got points for that recovery i don't think anyone else could do that.....besides chuck norris
  • 1 0
the recovery was mad crazy i give u that but that hip down whatever thing was huge and so smooth its a toss up
  • 1 0
yeah Redbull's input to the sport is amazing, they are soo dedicated. Apart from events mentioned above, they support local enterprises as well. I remember a trip organized 3 years ago in my area for about 25 riders, locals. They gave us Redbull bus, pimped nicely with playstation on board and lots of drinks. Plus a private ambulance was hired to provide medical help, just in case. And another car followed us, mercedes sprinter followed us, packed with our bikes. all for free!!!! big up to redbull
  • 1 0
I want to add another " Gee should have won" comment. Looking at the rules, it IS totally more about line choice and fluidity than one huge trick (the 3 was HUGE! for sure though), and Gee's line was by far the sweetest and most original. Zinc didn't ride anything that hadn't been rode and rode and rode...

1.Gee
2. Claw (great mix of tricks and great line, just wasn't smooth, almost went over the bars and all that....)
3. Zinc

Is it a big trick competition??? Maybe the rules need to be re-done.
  • 2 0
Totally sick... thx PB for getting this up so quick. Watched some live but the feed kept freezing. Props to all the riders! Can't wait for the video game! lol
  • 1 0
Sick event as usual, Major props to Red Bull for giving us this amazing event for freeBig Grin
The 3 of the Icon sender was just the highlight of my year.
BTW Does anyone know where all the 3D footage is gonna be used?
  • 3 0
BALLS OUT, SICK, BITCHIN, CRAZY, BALLS TO THE WALL, INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • 1 0
Wish the dude in this pic woulda stuck that! ^^^^^ didn't see too many people hit that kicker?
Yes Mt Biking has gone insane boyz and girlz ...and i think i like it!
  • 2 0
sickest event to watch. much respect to all the riders. good job cam on the win
  • 1 1
So what your saying POWFEIND is you dont like progression?? Everything has to progress, and progression doesnt mean be a pussy and do the same shit every year... Push it to the limit or gtfo is what these guys are thinking.
  • 1 1
tabletop666, your statement here is so full of logical fallacies, it's hard to believe it even relates to my comment. I love progression, but progression has many faces, and when you feel pressure to push yourself to such radical extremes because of pressure from a sponsor or efforts to "maintain a name" in the biz, you are not really doing it for the "progression" of the sport.
  • 1 0
^^^man you can crash on your 2 doorsteps an fall dead...every time yo ride a bike no matter where, you are expossed to crashes and death....and in case that you don´t know, !!!this is RAMPAGE!!! gnarliest big mountain contest in the planet. "¿where is your logical sense, what do you expect?"
  • 1 0
gee is so good, there should be more DH guys who take time out of their DH training to compete in the other parts of the sport, all the athertons are true shredders.
  • 2 0
dude, that ius the gnarliest 360 i have ever seen in my intire life! great job and props to all the riders
  • 2 0
so, this is not a challenge, but for next year, I really want to see someone front flip over that canyon...

  • 1 0
does anyone know the name of the fat commentator
  • 3 0
 his names brad ewen
  • 1 0
 sweet cheers man
  • 1 0
 Brad 'Jesse Ventura look/sound-alike' Ewen.
Although I don't think Ewen was a navy seal like JV. I think JV was actually a frogman for a navy demo team in Nam as opposed to a SEAL.
Here's JV. And check him in Predator too. Great movie. NOT Predator 2 - which SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKS - imo.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=zoqmH49VBC0
  • 1 0
Bless the guy who split his forks in half yesterday Smile
  • 1 0
omg!!! balls man balls! 360 off the oakly step down!!!
  • 1 0
 what are the broken forks?
  • 3 1
they were all 888 but any fork would have broke under those circumstances and i think there was more riders on 888 they any other fork i didn't count but i saw alot during live feed
  • 1 2
Lots of hard crashes of all kinds of fork. Only 888s broke. And several of them did.
Is it that riders of other forks crash less hard? That still wouldn't be an advert for Zoke. Lol.
  • 2 0
when i will bail 40feet high drop i may get worry about their solidity. until then i feel safe with my 888 :p
  • 1 0
notice the fact that Andreu was using 888 and his fork was allright even after he hit the landing with his front wheel doing a flip no hander.
  • 1 0
Totally awesome, kept me away from H/W for a few hours.
  • 1 0

Yeah is indisputable, the Claw ride better than Gee 1000%
  • 7 0
I agree, in a sport where most people sound like they dropped out of school in grade 5 - he gives an eloquent speech, I appreciate that from him and enjoy him winning because of that.
