I heard @brianlopes was shuttling--I did not actually see him shuttling but I saw his car taking up two parking spots at the top of A-line so I knew he was CHEATING...

...let us tweet about it.
  • 38 2
Haha wish I could give you more than just one prop!!
  • 19 2
Proof he cheats. And messes with ppl's rebound. Terrible terrible guy.

I have one question: How the hell do you cut knobs on Small Block Eights?
  • 18 0
 With a hair trimmer.
  • 33 8
Met him once. He was arrogant and simply not friendly. He is the kind of guy that would park in a handicap parking spot.
  • 12 1
I hope Steve Smith smoke him Smile
  • 6 8
Maybe I am behind the times, why is shuttling cheating?

...when I see people pushing up when the have the money time and option of shuttling, it is known as STUPID, not cheating.
  • 2 2
In relationship to Barel, everyone is barred from shuttling to give everyone an equal oppurtunity to get runs in. If the pro's had the access vs. the other ppl, they would get considerable time in over the others. So everyone has to climb/hike up equally to get runs in.
  • 4 7
If he cheated he failed at it considering that he didn't even podium.
  • 3 0
 just on the 99 Wink
  • 4 0
He would have been third if they didn't penalize him for something that everyone else was doing also from what i've read of other peoples posts that were in the race. Even Jared Graves mentions in his "Rider Journal", "The bottom of Stage 4 was very close to our house for the week, so it was an easy pedal over." He was staying in Alpine for the week so he didn't drive back to the village to start practice on stage 4. Jared essentially did the exact same thing as Fabien yet he wasn't penalized because he was staying at the bottom of the stage and nobody would have known he didn't ride from the village to start practice.

I've always heard and read negative things about him but he was a super cool guy and chatted with Leggatt and I for a while at Crankworx last year. Certainly raised my opinion of him a ton. You can sure tell that he is an intense competitor though because there is a certain deep focus that he maintains.

Brian, no one likes you any more.
  • 1 1
but, concerning shuttling; surely people don't complain when the pros have all round year training or better bikes and better mechanics ect.

As well as people who live closer to the course so are more familiar with it.

In such a highly sponsored and professional sport, why are we restricting our best to stay in the past?
  • 3 1
Thanks for deleting my original comment that many people gave props and supported. Typical.
  • 15 2
Brian Lopes doesn't give a fuck about what people on the internet who haven't met him think about him. He's older than most of us, and faster than all of us
  • 2 4
Seems like the whole run he was just complaining about the course.
  • 4 1
if you notice, he's not wearing his helmet as in the enduro regulations... DQ!!!!!
  • 5 1
Guess I'm too late to be the first one to tell Cryin' Brian to fuck off.
  • 94 2
holy shit that was fast !
  • 85 1
This is the reason he's won so many times. And jeez, he entered the trees at the bottom at about mach 37
  • 42 1
 He's going to Plaid!
  • 17 1
No kidding their is probably a plaid trail left behind him. How do you even stay in between the trees at that speed? Steering seems lime it wouldnt even work anymore.
  • 10 2
It was more like mach 36.87153, but everyone rounds differently.. In space we call that ludicrous speed or plaid.
  • 5 0
Sorry @shrockie. I guess I didn't see that you used the plaid already
  • 18 0
Can you hear that soft boom at 29 seconds? That's Lopes breaking the sound barrier.
  • 2 1
@bmar I heard it too. A big boom and the cloud. www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1ywUmBpVGY
  • 4 1
I believe this is referred to as: Mach Chicken.
  • 3 0
@ shrockie, I was totally thinking "ludicrous speed!" while watching that vid
  • 3 0
 That X-Fusion fork looks awesome!!!
  • 2 0
The tight treed section was nuts! I've been through it a hundred time and never imagined that anyone could go though it that fast epecially when it is that blown out.
  • 8 0
First jump on jump section is too short?... Well fml....
  • 1 0
Mach 37... he was going 28,157mph?! Damn... he HAS to get the fastest strava time with that kind of speed!
  • 3 0
 Strava be like DAFUQ?!?
  • 76 0
Lets stop in front of the drop....
  • 26 1
I love blocking trails, and standing on drops
  • 6 0
A-line is the worst for people stopping in weird spots.
  • 32 0
Hyper speed! I am having a heart attack watching it and all I can hear is "This bit sucks, that bits blown out, that jumps too small" Hahahaha
  • 25 0
Anyone else from a far see that fork and think immediately of some of the oldschool marzocchi bombers? purely from colouring
  • 1 2
same. I don't like the unfinished crown though
  • 14 0
When I heard his first comment I was afraid he'd be going faster than speaking and I was right. Damn this was fast. I felt like flying behind my desk and through this tight section I hid my arms.
  • 17 0
 I feel slow now...lol
  • 1 0
 I am slow...
  • 1 0
You're both slow. As am I
  • 12 0
Haha I love it when he blows past what would be your average rider and makes them look like they are learning to ride a bike!!!!
  • 1 1
the guy at the top of the glc's wasn't even moving!
  • 13 0
Man is he flying. The video almost looks sped up at some points.
  • 10 0
I see this video every year from Lopes and every time he goes into that tight section with the trees and ruts at speed, I keep waiting to hear the soundtrack from superman start playing in the background. Insane....
  • 10 1
Every single person who has ever ridden... A-Line will say...."now that is really FAST"
☝LOPES☝
  • 9 0
I will never get over the speed he enters to woods at. Pure madness.
  • 7 0
now people see what riding a-line fast with other people on it is like....sketchy as hell
  • 8 1
I beat Lopes in the A-line race!
  • 5 0
brain does not compute how fast that was... in my head i'm still halfway up the hill
  • 2 0
Just amazing. Both from Brians flat-out speed, AND the fact that people are dumb enough to stop on top of the GLC!
It seems that EVERY time I'm at whistler, I have roughly the same thing happen with other riders "checking it out".
BAD, BAD place to stop , kids!
  • 10 0
They weren't stopped. They were going non-Lopes speed (aka not plaid).
  • 8 2
that bike looks so weird, i love it.
  • 10 0
 Opposite feelings
  • 31 1
"That bike looks so normal, hate it?"
  • 5 1
As much as people drink the haterade on Lopes, there is no doubt this man is an animal. Who the fvck rides this fast?! I got scared just watching this.
  • 5 0
Fast as always! Nice chest cam preview.
  • 4 0
I wish someone would go win this on a hard tail
  • 1 0
Hah my first time down a-line I landed to flat @ 3:30, blew up my rear tire. barely held on.

Hearing bryan lopes say that the jump is too short makes me feel alot better about it.
  • 4 1
I love flying down a DH course and dumbasses are parked on the course!!!! WTF! Lopes is still a legend!
  • 5 2
Pretty sure Lopes could get back into WC and still contend. That was way fast
  • 2 0
The camera does not do justice on how dusty the tree section is. I don't know how he ended the rut section so smoothly on the rock face without losing too much speed. Props.
  • 3 0
Lopes translation "in this section theres actually some pedalling" -> approaching warp speed
  • 4 0
We need Claudio to dub all course previews from here on out.
  • 1 0
You're right Claudio's previews are fab. Whens he going to become a commentator!
  • 2 0
Brian said, "got to slow down," I don't think he knows what that means. My palms got sweaty watching this. His speed looked impossible. Was this real?
  • 4 0
That's a fast road! Are there any trails at Whistler?
  • 1 0
Damn....Lopes is still the fastest MoFo on this course. I can't believe how he maintains his cool all the way through. Wish there were more Lopes previews like this. He's super fun to watch.
  • 4 0
 Shredding like a boss :p
  • 1 0
I loved the bit where good old super Bri says "coming into a fast section" it's at around 1.35. That was superhuman fast. OG.
  • 3 0
Get out of the way Joey's! Ha ha
  • 1 0
Where does the term Joey's come from? I understand what it means but why Joey's?
  • 1 0
Have you seen the video ( I ride park?). If not, give it a watch its money!
  • 2 0
a joey is a young kangaroo
  • 3 0
Like an express train through there :0
  • 3 0
i didnt think it was possible to go that fast in the tech section
  • 3 1
Someone needs to tell him he would be faster with 650b, he must be out of the loop from not reading online forums.
  • 3 1
650b is the way of the weak jedi mind tricks... 26 is the way of the dark side.. join the dark side ninjatarian and feel the power !
  • 1 0
I joined the dark side before any other side even existed and I don't plan on going anywhere.
  • 2 0
he's the fastest 40something rider i know of. he hits that like he's blowin by cully and leveque at grands. crazy speed.
  • 1 0
Wow. That trail looks really familiar, like I've ridden it a thousand times. Pure fun
  • 2 0
 Master Class Steezy Wizard!!
  • 2 0
i love how at 1:35 he says 'fast section'.
  • 1 0
haven't been up in a couple weeks, that top section of Aline looks horrible!
  • 2 0
Insane! Would love to see how he does in the Megavalanche series.
  • 2 0
I don't think I will ever reach those speeds... until I go skydiving!!!
  • 2 0
 interesting setup, very fast too
  • 2 0
DOES HE EVER USE HIS BRAKES?!
  • 1 0
That's what I was thinking, he'd be on 170 or 172.5 not 175 for his stature. BMX style, push big gears.
  • 2 0
Back in the good old days of druggie road bike racing it was awesome to see Jan UIlrich pushing his 180mm cranks at 60rpm and keeping up with Pharmstrong at 120 rpm. Jan was a horse.
  • 1 0
actually that would be the teeth on the chain ring, boss
  • 2 0
he did that drop like so relax. wow super fast
  • 2 0
I want to believe that's the camera that makes him look faster than he is.
  • 1 0
Actually the camera make you look slower than you really go. You just need to see the trees passing by to both sides of the road to give you an idea of how fast he's really going
  • 2 0
is there a record time for the Aline?
  • 2 0
What a legend. That was FAST
  • 2 1
This totally got eclipsed by his riding, but he also did a really good job of being commentator on the run
  • 1 0
Excuse me while i scrape my brain off the floor after trying to comprehend that video, thanks.
  • 1 0
Man, I would give my left nut to be able to ride that fast and not die. Awesome vid.
  • 1 0
Funny how everyone is like more travel more trave! and hes bossing it up with 130mm lol
  • 1 0
Pinkbike should get Ratboy Josh Bryceland to do something like this. With subtitles.
  • 2 0
 So much steeze!
  • 2 0
 Safety first!
  • 1 0
he has to be running that suspension setup at some high psi's
  • 1 0
He just gets faster at this course each year! How is this speed possible?!
  • 1 0
those trees holy crap! doesnt look like a trail at those speeds!
  • 1 0
I have the same speed ! with my KTM...
  • 1 0
Yowzaa, fast as hell and a play by play.
  • 1 0
 F**K YEAH!!!! This guy rips!!!
  • 1 0
He was so calm and casual going that fast! :-)
  • 2 0
 Fast as fook
  • 1 0
What kind of shoes are those? Prototypes?
  • 1 0
2014 Pearl Izumi X-Alp Enduro shoes. Brian's been working with Pearl Izumi on upcoming apparel, footwear, and glove development.
  • 1 0
More of this please. The commentary was great.
