Andreu and Lluis Lacondeguy sign through 2010 with Kona Bikes

Jan 16, 2009 at 20:54
by Tyler Maine
The Spaniards Andreu and Lluis build up the Kona Clump team together with Paul Basagoitia (USA), Grant Fielder (UK), John Cowan (USA) and the brand new team member and 18 years old rookie Graham Aggassiz from Kamloops (CAN). All Kona Clump riders will be supported by Shimano, Marzocchi, WTB, e.thirteen, Easton, Sun Ringlé, Kenda, FSA and Wheelsmith. The Lacons got additional support from O’Neal protection gear, as well as Andreu from Red Bull. So the Rock’n’Roll loving brothers are perfectly equipped for a great mountain bike season hitting locations all over the world. The Lacondeguys will not only throw down at the biggest comps such as the Crankworx contests, the Nissan Qashqai Challenge events or the 26TRIX, but will also be filming for New World Disorder’s 10th edition.

Andreu and Lluis have been riding motocross and FMX a lot during the last months in order to train their skills for big jumps with a lot of airtime and speed. Lluis is anxious to go for international contests again after being injured at some major competitions. Andreu had the chance to show what he is made of by winning the Crankworx Whistler Slopestyle with a fantastic run including a clean double backflip. But he wants to go even bigger this year: “Mountain bike jumps have to be huge ... man, we are looking for 15 meters gaps and I hope that this is happening for the next upcoming season. Let’s see what the White Style will be like, Chopper did a great job the last two years.“

Let’s see if Andreu will be satisfied: Chopper aka Grant Fielder, the master of the White Style’s course design and construction, already stated that he will go big. The brothers are training already on big jumps in the snow, so stay tuned what’s next to come!

theyve been doing MTB FMX and BMX for years. im sure they wont be quitting mtb any time soon
  • 1 1
there was a report they would, but ive seen tons of articles saying otherwise so they must be sticking with mtb. Im suprsied tho because the money in moto is wayyy more, and andrew was a judge at x fighters even. but i think his riding on a mtb is way better, way more versitile tricks like tailwhips on mountainbikes so its good to see him stay, and rather use his moto experince to progress mtb even more.

well actually a company in europe is making a bar spin moto bike, so tailwhips will become an fmx trick aswell
  • 0 0
remember what happened last time someone tried that? lol..not good

ive seen flip barspins,i highly dought you will see it,the pros arent going to ride bikes like that only the odd guy who actuly wants to tailwhip a motorbike.
  • 0 1
2 french riders were using them at a small contest/demo and they were were doing flip barspins, so as the technolgy improves you could t-whips at x fighters and what not
  • 2 0
gonna have trouble whipping an mx bike IMO
  • 0 0
they also thought flips were impossible
  • 0 1
if you can barspin you can tailwhip so they coud go ahead and try them rite now i thuaght i saw footage of pastrana trying them into his foam pit but in a matter of time someone will do it...

itl be a huge effort to learn to tailwhip a moto. yeah they can do massive whips but its a totally different technique. i dont think they could throttle the bike riight around

uniethan Flips dont have to contend with the gyroscopic forces from the wheels spinning. Plus all you are doing is continuing the rotation from the transition. Spinning a mx bike is much more difficult. Notice how there 360s aren't really 360s. More of a flatspin or off axis flip.

if you guys htink t whips wont happen,im already thinking off all the advantages they have, first they do like 75 foot gaps like nothing so the air time is like no other, the intial kick is easy, spinign it will be hard to keep ot levle but eventuasly they will figure it out and all u do to catch is sit on the huge fuking seat no pedals so basicly instead of spening ages getting pedals there first time getting it to seat is going to be the first time landing it......big advantage trust me pedals is the hard part.

nonono mtb you are spinning maybe a 30lb bike with little gyroscopic forces. A MX bike weighs around 240lbs and has massive gyroscopic forces in comparison. And the big gap part, they need that for every other trick because the bikes are harder to move around in the air than mtbs. I am not saying its impossible just saying that it's gonna be frickin hard. Much harder than you are making out. You make it sound like a piece of piss but I would like to see you try. in fact i would like to see any pro try and ask them if it's tha hardest mx trick to date. I bet the answer would be yes.
  • 1 1
im just saying its prety retatred in this day and age to say it wont happen,i made it sound easy and its not but i guarentee a double flip is harder so i think its very possible and wont take a rider more then a season to land one.

yes it will be reaay hard to pull, never said it would easy just hard, now this is stupid I was just making a point

the way i see it, konad, a t whip is gonna be near impossible on an mx bike cuz it would take way too much effort to spin the frame, engine and all that other stuff around and catch it again... and also i think a double back flip would be easier because from what i hared you have the throttle to make it easier to flip the damn machine...

OK, on youtube i saw travis pastrana trying them into faom,it wasnt beautiful but defanaty looked more then possible to pull it off if you spent time trying it.pastrana is to beat to go and do the move on dirt but someone will some day.

i'm not one for konda, but the fact that they can shred like that on a frame with, IMO the grossest geo and standover out there, shows that they truly are the best dirt jumpers out there
