The cold has set in and the snow has arrived and already there are many of you eagerly awaiting the 2015 BC and KR Enduro Series. Ready to start planning your summer next year and starting to look forward to yet another amazing season on your bikes exploring new trails all over Western Canada!

There are a lot of factors that go into the decision of this schedule and to piece it all together. Remember the biggest aim and goal of the BC and KR Enduro Series is to allow you all to explore new riding locations and new trails all over BC and AB so new locations will be added into the schedule each year to keep it exciting and fresh. It's about spending time with friends and going on road trips while still getting to race buddies on the descents. It's about having a fully marked courses of the best trails already selected for you, so you don't have to be pulling a map out at every intersection if you were trying to explore new locations on your own, and it's about having a beer waiting for you at the finish line of each race!

Yes you are all going to say 'what happened to Revy' and yes we totally agree - that was one of the best courses and best locations from 2014! But don't get too stressed, as it will be back in 2016 and for various reason a location had to be sacrificed for ..wait for it.. the very first Retallack Lodge Enduro!

Ok, have we got your attention now??

So here it is:

BC Enduro Series 2015 Schedule:

May 3: Sunshine Coast
May 10: North Vancouver
June 7: Penticton

There are still some amazing opportunities for sponsors to come on board and the 'Presenting Sponsor' spot just opened up and is up for grabs. We would like to thank Norco Bikes for coming on board as the presenting sponsor for 2014 and taking the leap to support the first year of the series. We are greatly appreciative of their support throughout the last year. Pinkbike articles of the series got over 77,000 views, video's got over 16,000 views, website got over 100,000 page views with 16,000+ unique visitors and it's only going to grow from here!

EXTRA INFO

- Retallack will be the finale for both series but will be capped at 150 (we may open up more spots), so you will have to get in quick for that one (spots are guaranteed for potential overall series contenders for each category though, that is decided after the Rossland race based on points)
- Registration opens February and pricing will go up on the website in January.
- Insurance will now be included in your registration and you won't need to purchase the extra Cycling BC or ABA membership if you don't have one
- One day races will now be on the Sunday to give riders Saturday to pre-ride if you want and to allow for an earlier start time for the hot summer days
- Courses will be released during the week of each race to keep to the 'enduro spirit' of keeping it as fair game for everyone as possible and keep the excitement of riding new trails (it's not about riding it all summer to get the best time, its about experiencing new areas)
- Some races will have a one stage prologue the day before on the Saturday afternoon, this will be announced before registration opens in February
- A 'Rookie Enduro' course option will be added in to some of the locations in addition to the main course, that will allow those new riders a chance to do their first race if they are intimidated or not up for the full course option. The Rookie Course will not have any super hard technical stages but be just as fun. The aim for this is to get more people out on bikes exploring BC and riding with friends.

C'mon Rocky Mountain Bikes! Get behind this, do a little promo work with Wade and Tippie making some appearances. The vibe is already great, but add in some Froriders and it could only get better.
  • 8 1
Rocky has long supported "Wades Excellent Adventure" here on Fromme. In 2014 it was part of the Sea to Sky Enduro series.

WEA will be back again as part of the Sea to Sky Enduro series in 2015, Wade will be there, Tippie will likely be there and I am pretty sure Rocky will be there at some level as long time supporter of Wade and his event.

So...are you like..."yeah RM should totally get behind this as well, since it is all great riding and good fun!"
Or are you like... " no, RM is already sponsoring these existing events, and it is likely that Wade and Brett are far too busy to be bothered with this."
I require clarification, because otherwise your post seems to be, "here is a different event. I like this different event."
  • 8 2
Just pointing out RM's involvement with another enduro event in BC.

I certainly understand the effort that the organizers put in, and the issues that they must contend with, but this could easily be called the "southern BC enduro series". If the goal really is to encourage riders to "explore new riding locations and new trails all over BC", then even one location in northern BC would go a long way. With Vernon being the northernmost location in the BC series, it represents about 15% of the province, geographically (granted, probably about 70% by population). I'm guessing that one of the stronger northern BC clubs could be interested in helping get things organized (Williams Lake? Smithers? Burns Lake?). Northern BC ftw!

Quick question...apologies if its a dumb one. I'm a 43 year old and ride my bike about once a week. I've been riding for years but keeping my wheels on the ground for the most part. I bought a new Sight 7.2 this past summer and would love to race. Could a 5" travel bike handle these races and is there a competition for guys/girls like myself. Thanks.
  • 14 0
Absolutely. I did two races last year on a 2013 Sight B1 and felt it was perfectly suited for the trails and type of riding we did. Any issues were definitely more operator related as opposed to bike related. There were certainly some slacker, longer-travel bikes out there but I also saw more than one hard tail 29'er too.

As a rookie to the race scene myself at age 40 and a guy who considers himself a reasonably strong rider (3000km this season; 4-5 rides/week), I figured I'd be in the middle of the pack somewhere in my two races. Nope. More like bottom 1/4 of the pack. I tell you this so you know there are a lot a very fit, strong riders out there...lots of ex-racers, uber-fit people and riders who know the trails better than anyone alive. All of that being said, it also doesn't "feel" like racing. No testosterone, no one showing off and lots of camaraderie and great people. Maybe you do one race, do really well but hate it and maybe you do a race, finish dead last and love it. Either way, go for it.

I plan on doing as many of the races as possible next year on the same bike...and hopefully climbing up to the middle of the pack in the standings!

Dave Harder WON the series on a HARDTAIL. You don't need a FS bike.
  • 6 0
I did 3 of them as a rookie racer (and new mountain biker) last summer. My bike is too heavy and my skills are too weak, so like LipBomb, I too finished generally in the bottom 1/4 of the pack and I couldn't have cared less. Because I was too busy having fun riding my bike on some cool trails with other bike riding people.

These races are not really about winning, they're more about biking. The stop watch is just kind of gravy at the end of the day. I am already hatching plans with friends to attend every race this year. (Also flying to New Zealand to do her Trans NZ race this winter).

You'll never know until you go. Do it.

Thanks for the responses guys. I just want to have fun and compete a bit. I would mind placing in the bottom 1/4 either. Last question, were you clipped in or wearing flats? I have become tangled in my bike one too many times while riding unfamiliar trails. Or do I just have to man up?
  • 3 0
I'm on flats. Being clipped in makes me timid. Most other people were clipped in... but nobody would actually care what kind of pedals you're running, because everybody is to busy having.
  • 3 0
 Thanks HpSauce!

I did one of these last year on my Kona Honzo hardtail. The sight can handle it. I rode clipped in.

one thing race organizers ALWAYS struggle with is avoiding scheduling conflicts. We cant forget that there are MANY very well established race circuits down on the coast and on the island, so finding alternative race days/locations without creating conflicts of interest is very difficult. I'd encourage each of you to try organizing a race, let alone an entire series, and see just how difficult it really is.

if you live on the coast and are disappointed that the bc enduro isn't coming to your location, or conflicts with another race you want to do, then like any racer/competitor in any other sport does, you have to choose and prioritize which events you go to. the reality of racing/competition is that unless you focus on ONE series/circuit, you will NOT be able togo to every event, and really, for the sake of physical peaking and results; nor should you.

It would be nice to have an event up north, but it's hard to convince people to make the trip when there is so much going on in the south. Believe me, cycling is not the only sport which struggles with that.

So did BC Enduro Series give the Coaster the boot from Roberts Creek, or are they filling a gap?

Either way, it would be great if good races didn't compete against each other.....
  • 2 0
Sunshine Coaster XC has moved, check it here: www.sunshinecoaster.net/2014/08/2015-coaster-is-on-the-move
  • 10 2
No one is giving anyone the boot. We are working with Coaster and combining to have all XC, DH and enduro on the same weekend to create a bigger atmosphere and combine resources. The Coaster decided to mix it up and run the XC at Sechelt on the Saturday and the Enduro will be on the Sunday so that if XC riders wanted to stick around and do the enduro the next day they can and vise versa, so no competing against each other, more so working with one another.
  • 5 0
And those who are doing the DH race?
  • 6 0
having the dh and enduro on the same day does seem like a bit of a conflict.
  • 5 0
I for one love the mach chicken DH and look forward to it every May to start the year off right. I understand that some organizational resources can be shared, but accommodations for competitors are gonna be seriously hard to come by if all three events share the same weekend. For the record, I would be totally pissed if the MC DH got displaced in favor of a new event in a different discipline.
  • 1 0
rumor has it the mach chicken area is being logged....im under the impression it will look different in the future..
  • 1 0
Mach Chicken won't be taken away from the DH for any new event. But yes I too heard it was getting logged, but haven't heard any more updates on it, so I am guessing its still good to go for another year of the Coaster. As for accom, I don't think it will be an issue. Most of the xc'ers only go over for the day, most of the Enduro riders will only go over for the day (except the 20% hardcore'ers that will want to pre-ride). There is plenty of accommodation throughout Gibson and Sechelt and this is not peak summer period. But we can see how it goes for next year and re-asses if there is any issue.
  • 2 0
Not really addressing the fact that you went head to head with a very popular event, one that most people would do on 5 - 6" bikes because they are the most efficient on that race course (even though it is labelled as a DH race). Unless you really feel that you have a completely different following.
  • 2 0
yea the folks i have spoken with do the dh as well as the enduro. having both events on the same day will def cut into the rider numbers..

@srobarts nailing it with rad photos all series! Captured @foreplayMX's crushed lid and even got @bobalong, myself and a bunch others in a sweet post ride chill photo!

I like the rookie option might have a go at it. More race's should start having this option for us rookies.

No Revy is disappointing, but hopefully it means the return of the Martha Creek meltdown.
  • 1 0
Great job Megan! Moving it around and releasing the courses late so we can only get one or two look laps will even it out for sure.

Really looking forward to shredding some new places.

And as usual, three MTBers = four opinions .

 No Golden... thats a bummer

Bummer that Kelowna is gone. But, variety is the spice of life. Still a few Okanagan races so I can't complain. Hope to be racing one of these this year.
  • 3 0
Now I have no more reason not to move to BC!

Retallack and Vernon! Kelowna and Revy were my favorites last year but I'm looking forward to having a couple new favourites!
