Race Recap: BC Enduro Series Canmore Presented By Steedz Enduro and Bicycle Cafe

Enduro is back and alive and well in Canmore! When the Steedz Enduro MTB Team and Bicycle Cafe partnered for the 2018 season, it was because they shared the same vision and stoke for building the Enduro scene in the Bow Valley; and it was very evident at the BC Enduro Series Canmore stop.

The energy at racer sign-on was high right from the get go, with Red Bull on site spinning tunes all day and racers amped for something in town that wasn’t the standard cross country focus. With the largest BCES turnout thus far for the 2018 season, it really put things into perspective that there is a need for more Enduro in the Bow Valley, so huge props to the Steedz Enduro crew and Bicycle Cafe for seeing the need and putting on a banger 6-stage enduro race.

It was awesome to see such a wide range of racers from XC slayers, Enduro newbies, seasoned vets, and even little groms (as young as 9 years old!) crushing the course. The vibes out on the trails were definitely chill, full of laughs, smiles and good times with riders completing each stage fully gassed, knowing that when they were done a bbq and beer would be waiting for them.

Without a doubt, the course was set out to test all levels of riders in both the skill and fitness departments. Needless to say, we’re stoked to see Canmore back as a stop on the BCES circuit and look forward to what’s in store with new trail projects popping up at the Canmore Nordic Centre (CNC) each year; and the Canmore & Area Mountain Bike Association (CAMBA) and Steedz Enduro crew working on getting an official Enduro specific trail for the 2019 season.

TRAIL LOVE

With such a great race turnout, over $1000 will go back into the trails at the Canmore Nordic Centre and to trail projects organized by the CAMBA.

Additionally, the Steedz Enduro MTB Team have started “Steedz-4-Kidz” which will aim to donate bikes from the race profits to children in families who are enrolled in the Town of Canmore Affordable Housing Program. Sharing the same vision and desire to give back to the community, the Bicycle Café jumped on this initiative as well and has agreed to match the bike donations by Steedz Enduro.

For this event, Steedz and the Bicycle Cafe picked an excellent course inside of the Canmore Nordic Centre.

Thanks to the organizers and the town of Canmore for putting this race on. It was a blast. Only slight hiccup was the trail marking sabotage that sent people off course. Not cool whoever did that.

Where did that happen? I didn't notice anything misleading

@YouHadMeAtDrugs: early-ish in the day, ribbon was across the trail at the start of blue coal chutes on stage 1, an arrow was pointed the wrong way on stage 2 (forget where now) and markers were missing to direct you to take a right turn to head over the bridge on stage 5. As an out of towner not familiar with the trails, each of these sent me the wrong way. At the end of each stage, we informed the volunteers who took care of things pretty quickly.

Is this the same Bicycle Cafe from Kamloops?
