2019 Race Recap: BC Enduro Series Canmore Presented By Steedz Enduro and Bicycle CafeEnduro is alive and well in Canmore, Alberta due to the efforts of the Steedz Enduro Mountain Bike Team and Bicycle Cafe who partnered again to bring back the Canmore Enduro as part of the BC Enduro Series. After success in hosting the event in 2018, the need for more races like this in what has predominantly been known as a cross-country community, was evident.
With mother nature’s looming dark clouds and torrential downpour hammering the Bow Valley region for nearly a week prior and the forecast for race day not looking any different, it was questionable as to what the state of the trails would be. But with some love from the mountain bike gods, the clouds blew right over on race day and it ended up being a blue bird day with damp to tacky conditions towards the end.
With Redbull on site providing a high energy atmosphere, mixed with good weather, and racers showing up by the masses who ranged from newbies to seasoned vets, to little groms as young as 6yrs old, the buzz and stoke was high throughout the day. With racers fully gassed at the end of each stage and completing 1000m in elevation gain, the anticipation of the post race bbq and beer being poured by Canmore’s newest local brewery Sheepdog Brewing, was more than enough motivation to complete the six stages of racing.
New for this years race was modifications to stages 1 and 4, which tacked on some new steep rock and coal chutes to challenge racers in addition to a racer follow-cam.
Needless to say we’re stoked to see Canmore’s Enduro scene thriving and drawing riders of all types, skill levels and ages. If you’re thinking of trying an Enduro, this is a great event to get a taste before graduating to one of the more technically demanding Canadian Enduro Series races
COMMUNITY LOVEWith another great race turnout, over 10% of the race profits will go back in to the trails at the Canmore Nordic Centre and towards the recently approved Enduro/Free Ride trail project; which was recently approved thanks to the efforts of the Canmore and Area Mountain Bike Association (CAMBA).
Additionally, the Steedz Enduro MTB Team and Bicycle Café are continuing the “Steedz-4-Kidz” program which aims at donating bikes to children whose family is enrolled in the Town of Canmore’s Affordable Services Program.
