The first round of the
2022 Norco Canadian Enduro Series presented by Leatt went down in true Kamloops style - hot, dry, and dusty. With a sellout field of over 300 racers, including pros such Jill Kintner, Elliot Jamieson, Jackson Frew, and more, it was going to be a big weekend with plenty of competition. Outside of the pros, unsurprisingly the U21 field dwarfed all other fields in size, it's fair to say the future is bright!
Day 1 took riders right to the top of the ski hill for what would be the second-longest run of the weekend. There was little time to work into things as the stage also happened to have potentially one of the most technical sections of the whole weekend right near the top. Jill Kintner and Jackson Frew started their weekends off with a stage win, a result they would both hope to continue. Stage 2, Nates Upper; and there was a change at the top for the Pro Men with Dylan Da Silva taking top honors while Jill Kintner started to build her overall lead. The newly formed Corsa Cycles Enduro Team held a strong lead in the U21 Women's category with Elly Hoskin, Ainsley Haggart, and Sophia Ervington holding the top 3 places! With both stages complete, Saturdays racing came to a close. However, it wouldn't have been a Harper Enduro without a Saturday night grass slalom, with a few riders risking it all on the grass turns that evening. Who doesn't love some grass turns!
The start of Day 2 was tough for some. It started with a gentle roll down the hill to Stage 3, meaning there was very little in the way of a warm-up. Stage 3 was quite possibly the stage of the weekend! Starting on the lower section of Nates Upper, and crossing the road into Nates Lower, this was a hard and fast stage. Stage 4, the lung buster, and stage 5, the flow trail, followed before the crowd-pleaser that was Stage 6 and a timed run down the grass turns. Jill Kintner and Jackson Frew would hold onto their spots at the top to take the overall Pro category wins. But after a huge day, U21 rider Leif Rodgers would go on to take the overall fastest time of the day.
A huge thanks to all the riders, volunteers, spectators, and everyone else for coming out this weekend! We couldn't have asked for a better start to the 2022 season. Bring on round
#2 at Crowsnest Pass.
Not a bad place for a race!
Lets get this show on the road.
