Impossible to set up cameras in the thick jungle rainforest. I wish they would build WC specific tracks...Steep and gnar, but also build in camera stands and spectator areas to show more of the action.
Some said it would be impossible to ride in those conditions. Some said it would be impossible to set up cameras in the thick of the forest. They were both wrong.
In a perfect world you'd have a helicopter overhead filming it, a cable suspended over the whole course and cameras built into trees too. in the meantime, the lack of "slickness" in this edit gives it the feeling of a race you could have filmed yourself , for me it felt more "homegrown" , "earthy" and fun.
That was probably the worst coverage I have seen. Almost all of the really tricky parts the caused falls were not on camera. The next race will be better hopefully.
Captyvatemedia i think EKrum was referring to redbull coverage ... your 3 minute great coverage is way better ad spectacular than 2 hour live cast with cameras in the wrong places ...
Oi dickheads, be thankful there was any coverage of it at all! We're lucky there's enough money being spent on the sport that we can have live feeds of it!
So redbull are a charity spending money for the sake of mtb? f*ck that, it's a marketing effort, pure & simple.
Sure it's great it's free live coverage but that doesn't make it above criticism. The camera angles were crap. Fair enough if they are limited in quantity - that just makes it more important you get the most out of the ones you have got.
He didn't gain anything by where he re-entered. heck, I'd venture he wouldn't have been able to climb back up to where he came off track with all the mud and slick roots.
This is the kind of coverage we all want see from RedBull. I hope they are paying attention to just how bad the people watching live think the coverage is. Some of these camera views in this video were unreal. Made the course look so much better. Fort William shouldn't be a problem for coverage though. Cant wait
Yeah but seriously, could they not have put a couple of cameras in these positions at a couple of these sections? I know its free and I appreciate them for doing that but surely they want to provide the best footage possible.
I'd say it's a damn near herculean effort by the production crew to setup that sort of equipment: with 10+ live-feed cameras, operators, scoreboard, sound, commentary etc. etc. - all for free, live streaming, and on demand... In an f'ing jungle!
Also, as much as I like seeing the pros double and triple big jumps, they don't do much in the way of race results. That would be stuff like the rock gardens and the tech section like the "Alien Trees" off chamber, muddy roots from todays race. Fascinating stuff too IMO.
Maybe they need to get a bigger production crew, its RedBull so its not like they cant afford it! They make millions of dollars per week, I am thankful that I get to watch it for free though. They did have some cameras further up the hill but I just thought they could have been used in a better place perhaps.
That's not the point, it's the downhill world championships. The pinnacle of mountain biking as we know it should have alot more effort put on to show how fast these guys are going. They should be so much closer to the riders as they are passing. That would show how fast they are going. A couple of the angles in that vid were perfect. Why can't they sort a few angles out before the event with a couple of the riders
Don't get me wrong, I like jumps and speed as much as anyone. That being said, I'm sure the production crew are doing the best they can, with what they've got. Having a bit of a past in tv-production, setting up live events is a freaking nightmare... Can't imagine doing it in does condition. I also don't doubt for a second, that they'll have a post evaluation of the event, and look for things to improve on. Rampage this year was awesome (from a production stand-point), and I think the World Cup coverage has only gotten better since RB took it over, they're probably finding their stride as well... Oh, and remember when we were in danger for loosing it altogether?
I follow a few other sports and live events other than DH, and NONE of them have as good, free, coverage – which I'm quit thankful for, since none of 'em are as exciting as the DH cup
its obviously the coolest thing that they do it but if theyre gonna go that far and drag all that stuff out into the jungle they may as well get the best shots, ask the locals or something
Its not for free,EVERYTHING in life costs. Red Bull cover this for the huge opportunity to be able to advertise to all of us, and they make money..lots of money from it, so wake up.
Secondly..
RED BULL ..sort your shit out and take notes..this just made your whole opperation look like shit.. amateur hour.
Thirdly.. really liked your "mountain course guide" graph at the tart of the broadcast... well done.
The camera angles on these courses are absolutely abysmal. For a sport all about speed and intensity, they could not set them up more counter to that. They are way to far away and set up in really slow spots. So frustrating to watch
